| Do you own a dog?I used to. Yesterday, my friend of 13 years died. We became friends when I was in the 6th grade.. she was 3 then. Lived a year as a show dog, had 3 pups and later retired to a life in the suburbs as one of our family. Character? i think i could confidently say she had more character than some people i know. Sunbathing in the backyard when I sent her out to go pee, sitting inches away from the log flame in the fireplace when it was cold, always happy to see me when i came home for the weekends from school... and more recently when I came back from long trips around the world. Yeah, she had character. I remember when I came back from six grade camp she spotted me and ran to me at school, I guess that wont happen the next time I go back home. Her health was deteriorating, but I had hope after hearing that she is still happy, wagging her tail, still full energy around family. When she started coughing blood and having trouble breathing, it was her time to go. I could imagine my aunt calling her to go for a car ride, I bet she was excited, always giving a puzzled expression of "really?" before running to the car door. I wonder what she was thinking when they put her to sleep. I hope she had a second to think of me. Do you own a dog? I used to...

| my mac travel experiencei tried to get pictures for this story, but wasn't able to, you will understand as you read on.
SUNDAY: morning, saturday night for most of you, i was talking to people online when my computer freezes! hasn't done that in a while, but its not TOO unusual, so i restart my computer, only to find that the macbook can't find my hard drive. "dangit, i need my mac cd, but its at home!" oh well, i left for church anyways.
MONDAY: my uncle's friend works at the yeonsei univ. admissions office, and has friends in the communications graduate school. so i went over to see if they had mac cd's. they had a cd for a mac pro, and they had a package for panther. dangit! then we found the mac service center and went to 용산 (dragon hill) where all the electronics places are. they told me my hard drive is indeed dead and they could replace it out for me but it would be cheaper for me to do it myself. they also told me to find someone with leopard and upgrade while im at it. nice guys, want to save me money. i went upstairs and bought a hard drive for 70,000 won, 70 bucks, and this is when the day got interesting.
in a walkway, theres 2 guys hangin out on chairs and a table. they are actually eating and stuff. behind them theres a poster size paper with a long list of programs. games, editing software, you name it, they have it. you point out what u want, one of them gives you a price, you barter or accept, he tells the other guy some numbers, the other guy leaves and brings back cd's. normally i wouldnt have bought leopard this way, but i was out of options.
TUESDAY: this is actually monday night, but i came home late after meeting up with a friend so i was up workin on my comp. i replace my HD, i pop in my leopard cd.. and it doesnt work.. gahh! i had work the whole day so i didnt bother trying to figure things out.
WEDNESDAY: i went back to the underground guy, he replaced my cd and gave me his number just in case it doesnt work. i try the new one, doesnt work, i call him, someone else calls me back and tells me my computer is jacked cuz the CD is fine.
i go back to the apple service center, they bring out their burned leopard cd and try it on my comp.. it works! i ask how much it will cost me for them to install it on my mac... they tell me they can only install it for 30,000won, 30 bucks, if i bring my OWN cd. they cant sell me one or let me use the cd they already put in my comp!! at least they tell me the cd i bought from the underground dude isnt a good copy.
i call back the underground dude, in fear that i report him, he gives me my money back. finally find someone that has a leopard cd, pick it up, and now i am back.
THURSDAY: tried to recover my broken HD data, failed.
lost all my files, music, work data. gained a bigger HD, and upgraded to leopard.
note to self: always carry around a HD or CD with mac installation on it!

| my barber shop experience...So... you know how in movies and tv shows and stuff.. people go to the barber shop, hang around, get a shave, a haircut and what not? well i found out why they do it today. dont really know where to start...
so my hair was getting to be a bit long... long enough to tie back, and i figured it was ok. actually, i think the hairstyle pretty much blended in here in korea. well, my dad wanted to go to the barber since he hasnt cut his hair since we left for dubai.. plus he likes going to a particular barber in mokdong. we were sitting in his office and he looks up and tells me.. you need a haircut. i said i dont want to bother and he told me "it might be ok to do business with hair that looks like you got struck by lightning in korea or japan, but not internationally."
he forced me to cut my hair.
so at the barber shop (its pretty old and the guy that cuts hair is old too) i sat down and the lady preped my face for a shave... then she shaved my face! literally! it was kinda scary, but it was like being ex foliated with a razor. then the old man started cutting my hair.. but he didnt ask me anything.. he just started cutting. after he was done and my hair was washed they gave me a yagulatu! interesting experience but now i have a fob haircut... since it was requested.. before and after pics...
 that morning before i left
 that night when i got back... | | |
