the last week of summer in texas...ever?

monday: found out Bob Ortegel is back on the team as the mavs analyst. I don't know if its sad that that is the best off-season move for the Mavs or that this will be my only accomplishment today.

Tues:
pretend to be an OR nurse day
wearing scrubs in an OR with David Banner's "Get Like Me" on was surreal...I left before chris brown could sing
2 left distal radius surgeries
Gall bladder n hip surgery
Best nerd moment: Nurse Blanca
apparently there is also a rampant epidemic of dildo surgeries? WOW. between mckinney and frisco, i'm leaving tx
one surgeon has a different sense of humor (or humour in england)
i've gone from the appearance of a 16 year old (thanks derek) to a 19 yr old (thanks nurses)
10 more days...christ

and one of the last bar nights cements home what we knew all along:
we are TOO young for the bar
Opportunities are fumbled
bitches aren't bitches sometimes; they are actually chilean foreigners
Oh and times square is closed
we are now the official german exchange student welcoming committee
Tang-a-lang drink is delicious and contains no tang

chillax day:
Tantra, closer/better hookah and music
Dave & Busters for the weirdest twist of events in the history of the world
Krystal, Bud Light, Pau Gasol getting his ass kicked again
but basically, for 10 minutes, we actually believed that we could summon people with our dumbass thoughts, especially the harvest moon that was going on. I honestly thought some other shit was gonna go down.

hospital week

monday: after a long week of inactivity, hospital volunteering began in McKinney. For retail, it takes me a while to feel comfortable; I think hospital fits my personality a lot more. Instead of a nurse berating via the phone, we could actually talk to them and :gasp: make pleasantries. Many of the things I learned actually came up throughout my whole day shadowing the pharmacist and I definitely felt good about that. There was definitely some candidates from the fateful clubhouse visit. the only downside I see is the Codes. within the first 2 hours, we had a code blue and I gotta say its not pleasant; the doctor even knew it was my first time by the half-dollar sized eyes I had and an aura of gravity to the situation. also, being at the bottom of the totem pole versus the top in retail is an adjustment, although as an intern, its the bottom no matter what.

2 miles (22?)

tues:
how do I know I'm in a tx hospital? in the rx fridge lies a 6-pack of tallboys of ... budweiser.
seeing the ID doc and doc go head-to-head on linezolid and vanco ... IAL come alive.
gym time was interrupted by ying yang twins "jigglin" in 3d
2 miles (24)

wed:
visited pharms at presby dallas, baylor. def cool with the robot rx from mckesson and the chemo robot, 1 of 6 in the US, although they had not started using it yet.

i'd like to stand on my soapbox for a minute since this is read by, well 3 or so people. the commentary during the olympics have been retarded. I thought Tommy Heinsohn was in the house as the commentators tried "jinx"ing the chinese women's gymnastics by telling them to fall off? Even the Boston crew wouldn't be that horrible (well, most). I wish they would just show the events, the sounds of the crowds and the team, and no commentary. Also, the politics that have been forced upon us is ridiculous; I just want to watch the best athletes compete, not hear what some amateur commentator amateurishly talk about politics. And another thing, everyone is cracking down on human rights in China, which I'm assuming is the whole Tibet not wanting China in charge thing and the one child per family thing. Really? US :cough: Iraq....(and about anything else). The one child thing, have you SEEN how many people are over there? I'm surprised we don't have that here, especially soccer mom drive-thru prescription insurance arguments. But anything to take the lens off of domestic problems. ok, off box.

thurs:
So today, I took part in a Stroke certification meeting with the neurologist and the RNs which was pretty cool. Atleast this doc had a sense of humor. Also had a small quiz on tPA, a drug used within 3 hrs of the stroke; for the first time in 4 years, I actually got a 100. It may sound nerdy but it felt good to actually do well for once. Then I attended a special on MDS, myelodysplastic syndrome. Definitely a good assistant prof (whats that like?) from UT. It helped that they had a nice little mexican lunch to accompany. Afterwards, I sat in on a pseudo-conference call from ASHP featuring VTE and PE from a prof in U Wash. They had polls in between to keep us awake and lets just say some of the answers were very pharmacotherapeutic :cough 4 right answers cough:. surprisingly again, got those right. And now it looks like I'll be able to sit in on surgery on tuesday and get to wear scrubs for the first time.

the thing that I learned today that was most important? the pharmacist told me she worked at presby in dallas and if you are single, definitely work there because they have some sick parties.

PAUL A PALOOZA

friday:
another day at the office.
NO gym time because I was too busy trying to make it to the Rangers getting crushed by the Rays and avoided a run-in with a neonazi member calling a hit on me in front of us, a group of 3 minorities. he had a tat on the back of his head that read "REDNECK" with dixie flags behind it; weird enough, a trademark? ™ next to it. Finally got the J Ham shirt after a whole summer and some nice parting gifts. So subs at walmart are pretty economical, as we found out. The limo ride to black finn was cool; def missed it due to an alt prom. Black Finn wasn't bad; fun, but I'm ready to get out of the about to reach-30 pool with a divorce and issues and return to URI, although thanks to the elliptical, I got a random good game. oh and sneezed tequila in Pritesh's eye. what trip would be complete without cafe brazil via limo and making it back with 30 seconds to spare.

sat: 5 hrs sleep -> 9am...2 more miles (30)

lake day in Rowlett?
had a great football game consisting of 3 girls getting taught on the spot how to play and dominating for some reason. I had my usual TO performance of 2 TDs then doggin it. Anjali the QB threw 4 ints, and Patel ended the game goin vertical and int-td'in it. The best play? Dhamu's GF narrowly gettin int'ed by Pritesh, catches the ball, jukes the rest of the team for a TD.
also, we can't plan for shit.
swam at the apts. even tho dmesh and i have pools?

Mon: 2 miles. Before road trip

tuesday: forget contact lens holder. wtf to do. sleep all day in the car, passing arkansas and in tennessee as we speak. Get pulled over by a super trooper but also get a little luck at O'Charley's (chain food, not the bar in RI)

location: Cookeville TN

Wed;asheville enjoyin.a pint of green man ale n porter with the strokes album in jack of the wood; def a college town

Follow it up with a hike? At blue ridge
Note to self; hiking is awesome minus drinkin before.

thursday: find out while eating breakfast that Gatsby was conceived in Asheville NC at an Inn, room 441. Went to the Blud Ridge, Smoky Mountain place which is pretty nice and followed it up by walking through hippyville/ Grove Arcade, which I later found out was not an arcade. Walking on the street, I was approached by locals inquiring about 4:26 (?) and california? Now, we're in a cabin in the middle of nowhere, 4 minorities.

friday: fishing, paddleboating, minority-ing it in Saluda pop. 575 and Tryon, NC.

Sat:drive to forrest city ak

Sun: bfast in forrest. I really enjoy the small-townisms of saying "hun" (unless its an attila joke) and the candidness/candor of the mother daughter waitresses. Note to self, find country girls.

awesome song + chris brown = suck
like, "Get Like Me" by David Banner.
Off season ponderings of furcal; carrying that many torches life-time equals gettin burnt a lot.

wednesday: last meeting of the 3 group. drinking a coffee in the rain in the West End area, who knew that'd be a part of my summer? That place we visited definitely could double for a Hooter's.

2 miles (12)

thursday or the day before the last day (of walgreens). thank god, cuz everyone's gettin pissy at me.

4 years in two lines:
Give me your taken, your crazy,
Your huddled fat asses yearning to break me

friday: and that is the end of season 2 of the mockumentary, Walgreens Internship.  It ended the way any series ends; corny, abrupt and definitely not the best episode.  and you can't watch it on re-run...time to move ahead.

I expected a different ending for sure...even if it was impossible. I mean, I HONESTLY was, and ultimately let down. the difference between reality and tv, right here.

Big Tuck-Not A Stain on Me was played during the first presentation...wtf? those poseurs

saturday: 2 miles (16)
Harold kumar and kumar 3 lost in allen...for culdcept

Sunday 2 (18)
