| i really need to write more. hahaha so ya.. it's been insane this summer. i guess i'll just talk bout some highlights from work:
most embarrassing moment on the first couple of days at work, i finally met the big boss and so he was just watching me take calls for a while. imagine this though, i'm receiving calls from customers who know a lot more about the company than i do cause i've had no training. so the woman on the phone was like.. "if the service is $100/ month, how much is it with tax for the whole season?" this might sound like a simple question. but in my mind, questions were flying through my mind.. how much tax do they charge? how many months in a season? where do i get a calculator?! and so i was hum-ing and uh-ing on the fone, the president was looking at me like.. are you stupid?! so i put the lady on hold and asked him how much we charge for taxes. he's like we only charge GST. and i'm like. how much is GST? he stared at me. I WAS IN PANIC MODE HERE! my mind was completely blank! the woman on the line was getting impatient but i had to put her on hold while i tried to calculate in my mind how much it was. then i just gave up and told her to get a calculator herself and find out how much it'd be. after i hung up, the pres went around and was like.. WHY IS SHE NOT TRAINED?!
most awkward moment there was a period when i'd take calls from potential customers (really early on, so i wasn't fully trained yet). the vp called my extension one day wanting to tell me something but i was trying to get to my voicemail. u know how when u pick up the phone and there's actually someone on the line but the phone hasn't rung yet cause you picked up so early? yar. so i wasn't completely sure there was someone on the line, at the same time not wanting to say anything just in case there was.. but also wanting to press the message button. so there was that 15 secs of silence before i decided to say "hi..?" and the vp was like.. hi, is this how you usually answer the phone?! i was like. OH EM GEE. kill me now.
funniest moments 1) usually when i have nothing to do, my supervisor would give me cheques to alphabetize, and i would do all the cheques in advance. so, some time in june.. i was bored and asked my supervisor what there is for me to do. she takes the cheques i alphabetized in may, messed them all up, gave them back to me and said.. take your time. it was hilarious 2) this man (who's been a customer for 25 years) came in yesterday cause he wanted to bring in a basket of plants for my supervisor who's away on vacation. he was in here for 15 min but he talked non-stop for the whole time he was in here. he went on this whole rant about how he dated a chinese girl when he was young (he's indonesian) so he knows how to speak chinese (cause he asked if i spoke chinese) then told me how i shouldn't date long distance, meet the parents when you first date a boy.. it's important to find out about his background, not to date only chinese boys.. i should date guys of other ethnicities, how he's married to a french woman and they have a 6'1 28 yr old son (i was so tempted to ask him to introduce me to him) and how mixed ppl are in hot demand. i could not stop laughing.
i really love working here. i learn so much from everyone and people are just so nice =) it's really different interacting with people in a company that is predominantly white. actually.. everyone here is caucasian. i'm gonna miss it when i go back to school =(
| wowzers. it's been a while since i've written nething...
may's been an insanely busy month. been working 9-5 everyday and it's pretty awesome =) i really like this job and the people here are pretty great. i work with 3 women and round 20 other guys who come in and out of the office. 2 of the ladies have kids my age and older but they're cool... haha. so ya.. i answer calls and data entry and do alotta random office stuff. there are some really awful people who call in and they are so rude. does it make them feel better they've ruined my mood? but then there are the rare craazy nice ppl. there was this one guy who called 2 wks ago and was soooo amazingly sweet he almost made me tear. i think he's a retired old man cause he had so much time to talk to me on the phone about his lawn. but ya. he made my month =)
so yes, i've finished the bartending course!! i really miss going downtown twice a wk... i feel like i have nothing to do now other than csa meetings and work =P ahhaha. hmm.. met some awesome people in class and i actually know what's in the drink when i order them now! pretty cool =) i just gotta memorize the list of bout 150 drinks and do the test to get the certificate =P i dont' think i've actually considered bartending as a job seriously but maybe i will. it sounds like an amazingly fun job.
can't believe i'm turning 20 soon. ahhh!!!
| I GOT THE JOB! WOOT WOOT! so happy!!!!! i <3 summer. and then there's the bartending classes in may. SO EXCITED!!!! happy happy =) | | |
| i was in the worst mood today and could barely sleep yesterday night because i was waiting for a phone call from the place i interviewed at yesterday. i never knew i could be so stressed out over something like this. they said they'd call today to tell me if i got the job or not and it's the only thing i thought about the whole night yesterday and the whole day today. i actually really really want this job because it's not that far away (i can carpool with the mother so i don't have to pay for YRT and TTC), pretty good pay, the guy who interviewed me (boss) is reaally nice, good hours (9-5 mon- fri). and i've been pretty down cause it was pretty late and they haven't called yet. and then and then!! 10 min ago, they called for me to come for another interview for tomorow. even though i was pretty surprised cause i didnt' think i'd need to go for a 2nd in, this is so much better than them saying they're not hiring me. my gosh. i feel so much better now. i also have another interview at 10 tomorow though, at keele and st. clair, and that one's my back up. i really really really hope i get the one i want. but ya. just wanted to pour all my frustration out. i'm glad i never get like this for anything, cause i know people are always like this during exams and it's such a horrible feeling. | | |
| and so. to celebrate the fact that i have no more exams till next sat, at around 2am today.. i decided to cook. .. well. it was more along the lines of i've-been-up-since-11-and-i've-only-had-an-xl-coffee-mintchoco-icecream-and-tortillas-and-i-can-barely-move-cause-i'm-so-hungry-so-i'll-make-food. hahaha. and i was so bored. i decided to make "mun" siu yook with vegetables. i have no idea how to make something like that. but i had to finish the siu yook in my fridge b4 i leave for toronto 2moro. and so begins my search for edible ingredients in our kitchen. (keep in mind that this is actually the first time i've used any of the condiments that's been in the kitchen since... last summer.. hahaha): - the recipe i found online said i needed chicken broth. that is definitely a luxury i do not have in my kitchen. =P but i actually found 2 cartons of chicken powder. and instructions on it sed if i add it to boiling water, it becomes chicken broth. (this was better than my original plan of opening a pack of instant noodles to take the pack of msg and mix that with water) - and then, i was completely amazed to find oyster sauce in my fridge. i never knew that was in there. when did we even buy it?! - we even have that darker soy sauce thing! (i just went out to see what it was called.. and the name was actually "superior dark soy sauce" HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAA) - i got sugar from those individual coffee sugar packs - i realize we do not have any of the essentials for cooking: oil, soy sauce and the final step was cooking the rice. i rarely ever eat rice, let alone cook it. but i was too hungry. hunger makes people do crazy things. conclusion: rice was kinda raw, the meat and vegetable were pretty good. but VERY msg-y. it was not a bad experience at all. i think i'm going to make this an annual thing: cook only once a year when i have a lull between exams. very nice. | | |
