I'm still here.  Life has been great.  I'm performing quite well, you might even say "excellent," in law school.  Courses and co-ops have provided very rich experiences.

Here are some photos to get a sense of what things have been like...

I've been having a fantastic year. Amongst other great events, I hosted a successful Thanksgiving dinner party.  Mimi, Nana, and I did all the cooking.  So much great food: brine-soaked turkey (so moist!), candied yams (Mimi's recipe, so tasty), pumpkin bread, pomegranate salad  (my idea), my version of mom's green bean casserole (Mimi loved it), mashed potatoes, sausage stuffing, spiced cider (prepared by Jessica), cranberry sauce, Mimi's apple crisp, and two types of ice cream.  Plus Mimi's work friends brought some wine, too.

Yesterday, I just finished my last final. I'll adverse possess all your things, and if you complain, I'll 12(b)(6) you so fast, you'll feel like it was an intentional infliction of emotional distress.  That's 1/6 of law school completed.  I've made a lot of good friends in law school.  They're a great group.

Today I'm off back to California! Back home for winter break.

Rumsfeld "resigned" today after Democrats handily won the House of Representatives...

Rumsfeld had an interesting idea. Super elite, highly mobile, small groups of forces based around lots of information sharing, with lots of cooperation between the different branches of the armed forces. Sounds great. That strategy would probably still work very well against conventional foes.

But it seems that he got too wrapped up in how easily we could dismantle Saddam, and forgot the lessons of Vietnam. Guerilla warfare just sucks. It's hard to fight. You lose the offense and are placed on a constant defense during which the enemy hides amongst the civillian population and makes you look like an immoral monster if you try to fight back, if you even know who to fight.

Not only that, but Iraq is complicated by a virtual civil war that was only being held in check by Saddam's iron rule. Take out Saddam, and the whole structure of the nation right down national identity starts to fall apart.

It was a tough situation, and unfortunately Rumsfeld was too short-sighted to handle it. Whether or not the war in Iraq was a good or bad idea is still too hard to call, but I think it's easier to declare that the Rumsfeld's military handled the war in a less than optimum manner.

I still think his ideas could be applied quite effectively to other situations. But not here and not now. Bye, bye Rumsfeld.

In other news, I've been having a good time. Law school is challenging but interesting. I've been having lots of fun adventures and experiences with Mimi, as well as larger group outings with Kohki, Anita, Nana, and Yuan when she visited from California. I'll post something more fun, like maybe Halloween photos, later.
