June's Financial Wrap

How'd I do on my goals?

  1. Get a job.  Didn't do.  I found out that my contract wasn't going to be over til the end of June, pushed back further when I had to take a week and a half off.  So I'm still here, but just until July 4th.
  2. Pay for more things.  I paid for dinner once.  That was the extent of that.  However, I will be paying for the gas to move my stuff to Toronto, and maybe a bit more if I can afford it.
  3. Have some (inexpensive) fun.  I did some of this.  The conference was enjoyable, Mike and I crossed two things off our list, and I got to hang out with my friends a bit.  Could use more fun.  Too much unfun happening in my life.
Now, the pie:

June                               May

Oh no!  I regressed!  Actually, not really.  Because May left me on such a big high, I decided to "revisit" my financial goals for the year and add another category - RSP.  If I hadn't, here's what June's chart would look like, compared to May's:

So I really didn't make any progress.  This is, in part, because of school.  I bought my textbooks and paid my deferral fee, costing me about $730.  So even after aggressively attacking my credit card balance with some money from savings, I still managed to increase my balance a bit.  But what can you do.

What's in store for July?  It's looking like the same old story of:
  1. Find a Job.  Ok, I really need to do this this time.  My job is done on July 4th, and I can't afford to not work over July.
  2. Sell some stuff.  Again, I really need to do this this time.  I'm moving.  I don't want to transport more junk around with me.  Plus, I need money to move.
  3. Actually have fun.  It's been a long time coming.  I could use a few good nights.

May's Financial Wrap

Again, I'm jumping the gun here a bit.  I'm still waiting on a paycheque for this month, so my report may not be entirely accurate.  But so long as things go to plan, here's what I expect by the beginning of June.

May's goals were:
  1. Purge and pack.  Check and check.  Over the month I donated three and a half bags of clothing and stuff to Value Village.  I repacked a lot of my stuff, and have a good chunk of stuff ready to take the trip to Mississauga for storage.  Since we're passing through this week-end anyway, this stuff will be pre-moved, making things all that much easier for my move in August!
  2. Apply for a new job.  Half check.  I've been slacking on this one because I will need two weeks off immediately following my internship for getting my dad's motorcycle, and attending a conference.
  3. Reward myself for my hard work.  Another half-check.  Instead of spending money on a haircut, or getting my eyebrows shaped like I had considered, I decided to eliminate more debt!  I paid all of my outstanding bills at the time, and all I owe now is my share of our internet/cable/phone bill that came a few days ago.  And since I'll be having at least two weeks off of work, I thought this would be much more rewarding than a haircut ever would.
As I mentioned a few weeks ago, it turns out that my spreadsheet was incorrectly set up so in calculating my progress pie chart each month, it was actually over-representing the outstanding debt I had.  Fixing this error, along with my 3 May paycheques, receiving my tax refund, and having my dad help me with groceries have made May a huge success!  Check it out:

April's Chart                      May's Chart

Check that action out!!  I'm 82.3% of the way to my 2008 goal!  If you had told me I'd be doing this well back in January, I never would have believed you.

Because of my two weeks off, June's going to be a rather slow-moving month.  But with all the progress I made in May, I'm fine with June keeping me in pretty much the same place.  So my goals for June are to:
  1. Get a job.  For reals, this time.
  2. Pay for more things.  I know, this is kind of counteractive to my progress.  But what I mean by this is to stop letting my dad pay for all the groceries, gas, and dining out we do.  Even if it's just paying for one of our breakfasts each week-end, I'm sure he'll appreciate it.
  3. Have some (inexpensive) fun.  This conference I'm going to should be pretty cool, and Mike and I will be working towards crossing some things off of our "to do" list (like going go-karting, perfecting our white chocolate macademia nut cookie recipe, 'meet me in Brantford', etc).  And now that summer's coming around, I'll probably be spending more time out in the sun, which is usually fun.  And with two months left in London, I'll be sure to keep busy with friends.

Thank you, May!  You've been a huge boost to my motivation!

Someone really doesn't want me to work at Teletech.
Apparently my contract isn't over until the end of June.  My boss is still going to let me take the week and a half that I had made plans for, meaning that my contract will be over on July 9th.

That is, of course, unless head office changes their mind.

weird here is normal

Y'ever have one of those days where you just don't feel like yourself?

I've been having "one of those days" for the past few months, and it's getting progressively worse every few weeks.  With the myriad of physical and mental ailments, my symptoms of "off-ness" are so general that they don't pinpoint any one thing - and, in fact, could be the cumulative result of many different things going on in my life right now.

Is it allergies?  My birth control?  Job-related stress?  My living situation?  Is it boredom?  Is it something in the water?  Is it just the weather?  Is it what I'm eating (or maybe more accurately, what I'm not eating)?  Is it lack of exercise?

I just want to feel normal again!

While I wait to visit my good friend the Family Doctor, what are your suggestions to cope with:
- mood swings
- itchy skin and scalp
- unstable body temperature
- frequently waking up through the night
- extreme boredom at work
- tension headaches
- occasional muscle twitches
- grogginess
- back and shoulder pain
- lack of energy

Maybe I just need to have a long, relaxing dip in a tub of warm oil.  It'll be like an Alaina Fondu!
