15K

Today I ran a 15K as part of the training series for the Indy Mini.  And lately during training I hadn't been timing myself, because I am silly and I usually forget when I run outside.  My lofty goal for the mini is to shave (read: hack) about 25 minutes off my last year's time, and I have been training much earlier and much more faithfully this year... more like I should instead of letting it sneak up.  To put it in perspective, last year Krystal & I ran-walked the 15K, alternating running and walking miles.

Today, though (ta-da) I didn't walk at all!  I ran the whole thing, and my pace is under the pace that I need to achieve my goal for the mini.  Of course I know the mini is longer, but it's a month away, and so this makes me very encouraged that my goal is feasible & within range!! :)  Especially considering the wind today was very intense, and we seemed to be running into it more than with it (like I said, it at least seemed that way).

But here is how you know you are a nerd:  Your friend takes down all the splits on his stopwatch as you run, and when you get home, you put them all in a Maple Worksheet to see what your time and your pace would have been if only you hadn't had to stop to pee in Mile 3....

Cool night

Today we had some physicians into work to visit and to present.  They are world-renowned in the field they are in, with more published experience in this procedure we are pursuing than anyone else.  And the new project I'm on is to develop the device for this procedure.  Like, I have a textbook with multiple chapters written by one of these men, which I've referred to in trying to do background research for this project.  I ended up going to dinner tonight with the group with just a party of 8, the 2 physicians included.  It was so cool to be at the table with such intelligent yet down-to-earth men.  They were very personable and joked around with all of us.  It was such an awesome and educational experience.
Along with this, it's nice to hear (from the wife of the lead engineer) that he was excited about me being put on this project.  It is always nice to know that people want to work with you.  I can't claim to understand it, or why I was picked for this project, but it's an awesome and exciting opportunity and it looks like I have a busy year ahead :)

Ah, Catharsis

This morning a colleague of mine played this song for me in support of / response to something I said yesterday about his music.  It's a good song; I liked it.  It is not a polite song.  I had it in my head this evening as well while I was picking up dinner.  In his way, this friend was being supportive, and I appreciate that.  Sometimes these friends surprise me with the considerate things they says and remember, in an older brother kind of way.  That's so sweet, cause I never had one of those. :)
So, side note, are you ready yet?

What is the deal?  Every guy I meet seems either psycho or stupid.  Is it too much to ask to meet a nice, normal one?
