After work I picked up Aloysius at his house and we drove down to camp.
We arrived a little after dark...
Though we saw no snow all the way down
300 yards from the camp we hit 8" of heavy snow atop the ice coated dirt road...
But with a little coaxing our automobile made it safely into the driveway and down to the cabin...
Of coarse there was no snow along the cabin end of the driveway.
It all has something to do with the way the sun shines or rather doesn't shine, through the trees.
Our camp sits at 2,100 feet and lies right at the tail end of what climatologists refer to as the "Buffalo Belt", the area of land which get clobbered by snow carrying westerly winds coming across Lake Erie.
By then it was martini time.

Saturday we felled two 60' red pines and skinned them.

(Ropes are the only way to make them fall against the wind.)
Nick came over from Alfred to help for the day. He is one awesome, helpful young man.

We also took down a 60' sugar maple that was too close to the new cabin and cut it up for firewood.

I have just enough time to give you a short tour

This will be a bedroom

This will be the other bedroom

A door

A freshly skinned log.
(Lorilily says, it figures I would show you pictures of my naked log)
Well, it's time for me to take care of other things around the homestead.
Until the morrow I suppose... pleasent dreams all. |
