  • Top 3 Elimination Night

It's my best bet that Syesha will be hitting the road tonight. We shall see...

In other news, my computer is toast. I am on a spare, but it limps along as well. AU...you may have to fill in the results!

I hope to be back up and running before the finale. ~ CJ

Awesome homecoming tapes for all of them.

    Syesha leaves tonight.

It will be a David vs. David finale.

    DCFTW!!

AU~ The commies should free my internetz tonight or tomorrow, but I did get to see the results show.  As much as I hate the idea of wasting 1 complete hour of my life to hear 5 seconds of news, I really like the results shows and last night was no exception.  I don't know how they make it interesting (or at least watchable), but they do.  The homecoming tapes were great.  I liked WonderBread's best.  He seemed the most genuinely touched .

I thought they did a very good job of showing all 3 competitors fairly, even though it was written in stone how the results would turn out.  Syesha had many good moments (especially Change Is Gonna Come), but there was never any question.  We been saying a David cage fight for weeks and weeks.  I'm gonna miss her.

    Goodbye prettiest one

  • Top 3 Perform

Song choices and order of contestant performance:

    Mini-recap in progress!!

AU~ Forgive me.  The commies stole my internetz and my TV last night.  All set up to record, preparing to blog my marvelous thoughts and Verizon cuts through my Time Warner cable.  I'm not worried or angry though, because the technician said that not only was he sorry, he was "very sorry".  Who can stay upset with such sincerity?  I also know in my heart that if I ever switched to Verizon and accidentally bounced a check or was late in paying they would cheerfully accept my profound apologies...especially if I said I was very sorry.

So, I did get to see the last 5 minutes at a friend's house.  Therefore, I can't comment too much on the songs.  I certainly value this recap.  From what I saw, Syesha looked stunning, DA sounded like he always does and DC sounded like the next American Idol....

    David Archuleta

        * Paula Abdul chose: “And So It Goes” by Billy Joel

CJ - Well, that was gaspy, lip lickin' good. Just not my cup o'tea. Randy gushed about it, Paula said it was pure and stunning, Simon said it was very good, no surprises, a bit predictable.

        * David chose: “With You” by Chris Brown

CJ - A little off key in spots. Upbeat is good. The kid can't dance, though! Randy said it wasn't the right song. Paula it was the perfect song for his tone, great job. Simon said it was like a chihuahuatrying to be a tiger. Awkward.

        * The producers chose: “Longer” by Dan Fogelberg

CJ - No surprises. His best tonight, maybe ever. Would this song sell today? I don't think so, even though I have always loved the original. Randy said it was another hot one (what is wrong with him??). Paula said it was very lovely. Simon said he sang the song very well, but the song itself was horrible and gooey. But he thought he'd done enough to get into the finals.

    Syesha Mercado

        * Randy Jackson chose: “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys

CJ - She brought nothing new to this song. Not as good as the original. Randy said she did an amazing job. Paula told her she looks stunning. Simon said she sang it very well, but hadn't changed it enough from the original, but she looks gorgeous.

        * Syesha Chose: “Fever” by Peggy Lee

CJ - Tryin' to work that sex appeal. Pure cabaret. Randy said it was an interesting song choice, great performance. Paula said she looked lovely, surprising song choice. Simon said she may regret her song choice tomorrow, and it was pure cabaret. (I must be channeling Simon tonight).

        * The producers chose: “Hit Me Up” by Gia Farrell

CJ - Spicy. Most fun song she's done all night. A little screechy, though. Randy thought it was just okay. Paula thought she did the song very well, but probably not good enough for her to make the finals. Simon said it was better than the second song, but she had her best song last week, and it was forgettable.

    David Cook

        * Simon Cowell chose: “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” by Roberta Flack

CJ - No guitar for this one (I like it when he plays guitar, gosh!). Big change up, spectacular job. We finally got to see DC's dad in the audience. Randy loved the high note at the end, but mostly babbled on about Simon's song choice. Paula liked it I guess. Simon thought it was one of his best performances to date, round 1 goes to Cook.
AU~  I really wish I had heard this. I'll bet it was great.

        * David chose: “Dare You to Move” by Switchfoot

CJ - I love this song! Glad he played guitar. Actually thought his vocals were better that the original singer. I want the full version, that was too short! Randy said it wasn't his best, that he was pitchy (HUH?). Paula wanted more of the song (me, too, Paula...me, too). Simon Said it was okay. I liked it a whole lot better than the judges did.

        * The producers chose: “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith.

CJ - Best of the night for David C. Smoldering HOTNESS! Paula gave him a standing ovation. Randy said it was okay, predictable (get the hook for Randy, I'm done with him). Paula said, "See ya in the finals!" Simon said David Cook wins the night! The crowd gave him a standing ovation.
AU~  I saw more of this one.  Excellent, excellent and excellent.

I'm just going to guess who's going home...I say Syesha. I hope it's David A., but it won't be.

    Randy's fired. ~ CJ

AU~   I am so with you.  Syesha didn't bring it like she did last week (from what I heard).  I think the judges made up their minds before she sang, but that doesn't mean they weren't right I guess.  I'll miss her.

  • Elimination Night - Top 4

    Who goes home tonight?

Will Jason get to have his homecoming next week? Or will he be hitting the road?

    We find out tonight!

No recap tonight, but so far:

AU~  Interesting.  Ryan said that there was less than a million votes between the Top 3.  I took it to mean less than a million between #1 & #2, and less than a million between #2 & #3.  This is still very close.

    David A.  - Safe
AU~ a quote from the Chateau d'AU: "Aaarrrrgghhh"
    David C. - Safe

    Syesha - Bottom 2
AU~ This was a travesty.  She was so much better than David A last night.
    Jason - Bottom 2

(The Q&A is still stoopid, and I am not fond of Maroon 5)
AU~  I hope they drop this idea.  So dumb.  I like "She Will Be Loved" enough that I was expecting something good.  That weren't it at all!  Yawn.

    Bo Bice was pretty good.
AU~ I thought he was great.  Cool song.  Cool performance.

We say goodbye to Jason tonight.
AU~  Funniest thing was when Ryan was setting up the result he reminded Jason that Simon had told him to pack his bag, and Jason quietly said that he had.  The he told Ryan, "Heh heh, someone said, 'I shot the tambourine man', heh heh heh, that was pretty funny!"  I'm going to miss him.

The Jason also said something about how they were going to do 3 songs each next week, and he had no idea what he would've done.  He really seemed relieved to go.

  • Top 4 - Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll

Wow, are we down to the top 4 already?

This weeks theme is "Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll."

The songs that they have to choose from are from this list.

Be back with the mini recap later!

David Cook - “Hungry Like the Wolf” by Duran Duran

CJ - Rockstah! But, too much like the original arrangement. Randy said it was okay and a solid performance. Paula said it left her with a big appetite (oh my!). Simon said it was good but copycat. Was it good enough to take him into next week? Yes.

AU~  The arrangement was similar maybe, but I thought he sang it better than the original.  I like his voice.  I suppose he could tricked it up some but not much.  This was rock solid.

Syesha Mercado - “Proud Mary” by Ike and Tina Turner

CJ - She's no Tina Turner. Screechy at the end. Randy said she was in the zone. Paula said she looked like a star. Simon said it was a bad, shrieky version, a bad impersonation of T.T. I agree with Simon.

AU~  I don't want to stereotype but what Rock & Roll song is there for a big, black voice?  Rock & Roll owes much of it's existence to the African American, of course.  But the white man took it over as a genre and has never really given it back.  I think she chose an excellent song to do and I think she did it well.  It weren't as good as Tina's but it was no disgrace.  I liked it better than the judges, but I still concede their points.  A little too "karaoke", but good.

Jason Castro - “I Shot the Sheriff” by Bob Marley

CJ - Looks like he's having fun. Very weak, though. Randy said it was really karaoke and just ok. Paula said she wasn't crazy about it, but he performed to the audience.

AU~ Meh.  You know he's my favorite and his voice does something for me, but this was a bad song choice.  The only thing reggae about Jason is his hair.  Lovin' Spoonful is where he's best.  Meh.  Simon was ridiculously harsh, continuing to belittle it in Creampuff's review the next song.  It wasn't that bad.  It was better than anything Kristy Lee ever did, but that ain't saying much I know...

    David Archuleta- “Stand by Me”

CJ - Solid. Boring. Randy said it was hot. Paula said he was seasoned and he delivered. Simon said it was a very good choice of song, but he thought he struggled at the end. Best performance so far according to Simon.

AU~  He sang it alright.  But that's all.  He picked the only "Rock & Roll" song he ever had a chance of sounding legitimate on and he sang it OK.  Randy is insane.  Insane.  Paula was wrong. Simon was wrong.  CJ is right. I am right. Yawn, yawn and yawn.

    David Cook - “Baba O’Reily”

CJ - Double Rockstah!! Awesome. I think DC had trouble this week changing up the songs. Why? Debatable. Maybe I'll give my opinions on this later...no time right now. I liked both of his performances tonight, however. Randy said it was great. Paula said she wants more! Simon said Welcome back David Cook!!

AU~  I actually liked Cook's 1st performance better. He slowed this down just to be different which I didn't like.  But I say that to say this - excellently done.  Great choice.  Very well done.  He's a great performer as well.  He rocked.

Syesha Mercado - “Change is Gonna Come”

CJ - I love this Sam Cooke song. I was worried that Syesha was going to mess it up. I was surprised...I really liked it! Pretty dress, too. Randy said that it fell flat, and he went on and on about how it wasn't as good as Sam's original. Get the hook! Paula stood up and clapped for Syesha, and told her that it was a beautiful, superstar performance. Syesha started bawling. Aww! Simon said he agreed with....Paula!

AU~  I started crying when she said she was going to do this song.  Then she cried in the middle of the song too.  It was the best performance of the night I thought.  Certainly the best choice of song among all the contestants.  I was standing up crying and clapping.  Beautiful. beautiful.  Perfect.  Good dress, too.

Jason Castro - “Mr. Tambourine Man”

CJ - OMG! He forgot the lyrics! Goodbye, Jason. Randy said he wasn't in the zone. Paula said he didn't blow us away but he blew her away. Simon said pack your suitcase.

AU~  O. My.  Ghastly.  Horrible.  Simon was on the money.  Jason!  You had it in your grasp 3 or 4 weeks ago but you've been cratering.  Spiraling down.  This performance is where you augered in.  You, my favorite, are done.

David Archuleta - “Love Me Tender” by Elvis Presley

CJ - This just feels weird. He's only 17. I prefer the Elvis original. He even lost his voice on a note at the end (but no one commented about that)! Randy said it was another great performance, hot vocals. Paula said it was one of her favorite performances from him. Simon said he crushed the competition tonight. I am not understanding the love here.

AU~  I can't believe this song was ever on anyone's Top 500 anywhere.  Certainly not Rock and Roll.  This song was a nice Civil War melody that Elvis just flat out stole.  I hate this song.  The words are dumb.  Barry Manilow has more Rock & Roll cred than this stupid, stupid song.  So that makes it a perfect choice for Wonder Bread.  I have no clue why people like him.  He really does sing well.  He may even deserve to be in this group.  But this was horrible to me.  Horrible.  Blech.

    Bottom Two
CJ - I have no idea who the bottom 2 will be.

AU~  There was justice last week and there shall be justice this week!!  The bottom two will be Jason and David A.  Please.

    Going Home
CJ - Jason's ready. Let him go.

AU~  Amen.  He's my favorite, and I'm not being a fair weather friend but... Castro has throwed in the towel.  I think he quit last week or the week before.  He certainly brought nothing tonight.  Nothing.  This was sad to watch him crater like this.  His voice sounded good tonight like it always does, but his song choices have been dead, solid wrong for weeks.  I mourn.

    AU~  Ranks the performances:

Syesha - Change Is Gonna Come
DC - Hungry Like The Wolf
    DC - Baba O'Reily
Tied:  I Shot The Sheriff, Proud Mary, Stand By Me
    DA - Love Me Tender
    JC - Mr. Tambourine Man

  • Top 5 - Results Night

Will Simon's remarks about Syesha being in trouble send her home, or did it tick enough people off that she's safe? Did someone get lost in the shuffle because of the outrage of Paula's dazed and confused antics? Will Paula apologize to Jason? Who goes home tonight?

Find out tonight...and stop in after the show...

Kristy Lee Cook is in the audience.

    Over 45 million votes...wow!

Neil Diamond and Natasha Beddingfield perform tonight.

That group number was pretty bad (except DC was smokin'!!)
AU~ JC was good at the very, very first.

Gina Glocksen and Constantine in the audience, promoting their show.

    Ace is in the house.

Carrie Underwood is on this week's stamp.

Ryan tells us the rumors about Paula aren't true, and that she's part of the AI family...what rumors, Ryan? The ones about Paula being doped out of her mind?
AU~  I really like her.  To me she was obviously thrown off by the request and she confused her thoughts from seeing the rehearsal.  Why aren't they giving Ryan as hard a time for saying the judges weren't going to judge until the second round and then he suddenly asks them after the first?  Ever body lay off Paula!!

Jason - SAFE! AU~ standing O from the Chateau d'Undercover
    David A. - Safe
Syesha, Brooke, and David C. await their fate backstage.

Sample of So You Think You Can Dance. It looks good. Maybe I'll watch it this season.
AU~  My son & his girlfriend watched it and said it was good.  The promo did a good job of intriguing us as well.

Ryan announces the Coke Cup Design winner. Randy plays cup model.

    David C. - Safe

    Syesha - Bottom 2
    Brooke - Bottom 2

We have a commercial break, then Natasha Beddingfield performs. She's great, I just don't know this song.
AU~  We've never heard the song before but we were singing along by the end.  Great song!

Oh no! Stupid questions! Except for the last one for Simon...his firs crush/kiss from when he was 9 years old! Careful Simon...you have a girlfriend, remember?

    Ford Commercial...meh.

Neil Diamond performs Pretty Amazing Grace, a wonderful tribute to his wife, who happens to be named Grace. After his performance Neil tells the contestants not to listen to Simon. Ha! Neil's mother is in the audience!! (OMG! No WAY!)
AU~ I didn't know that!  Cool.  My mother-in-law's named Grace.  It is always especially poignant for me when I sing Amazing Grace...T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear

    Results after the break...

    Brooke leaves tonight.
    AU~ Justice!

She lost it, and could barely sing out. My sister and I were sobbing along with her. Bye Brooke!
