after two years, is that cake topper in the freezer still edible?

It seems to have become a tradition now, or maybe it just worked out that way, but we ended up at my parents' place again in Navarre, FL for our anniversary. We were there last year as well (see my 1st anniversary New Orleans post).

When we placed our bags down in the bedroom, we found a really nice orchid plant, along with an anniversary card and a heart shaped balloon- all very thoughtful of my Mom .

The next day we drove to Biloxi and saw the grand reopening of the Hard Rock. Hurricane Katrina had just struck days before it was originally supposed to open in 2005. Like other Hard Rocks, it had a lot of interesting memorabilia- John Lennon's velvet jacket, Madonna's cone shaped bra, some crazy rhine stone jump suit Elton John wore, etc.

Kid Rock was there too. We waited around a while with a group of people at the front doors to see his entrance, but he ended up using a back entrance instead (I guess ever since his major role with David Spade in "Joe Dirt", he's a big star now- kidding).

Being the high rollers we are, we blew a whole $3 at the nickel machines. Whew- good times.

My mom was really glad we made it down to visit them for our anniversary. Maybe she was just being superstitious and thought being there for 7/7/07 would bring us "luck". Hehe. I'd say we're already fortunate. As usual, it was just nice to spend time with family.

We had plenty of down time, so I took some pics in their backyard with Jeannie's SD600. The macro's not bad for a compact camera.

"It's not very funny."

I've long enjoyed the comedy of Weird Al, so I was pleasantly surprised at work today when I came across this listening to internet radio. This parody of R Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet" is funny to begin with, but I also have to admit the dinner conversations between the husband and wife hit pretty close to home .

So tonight I sat Jeannie down to watch it with me. To her credit, she did sit through all 11 minutes and 7 seconds of it. Her response before getting up to leave the room - "It's not very funny "

Here it is for your enjoyment:

Speed 3

We went on our first cruise the week of May 7. It was a 4 night cruise from Miami with stops in Nassau, Coco  Cay- a small island owned by the cruise line, and Key West.

The first day was spent on the ship as we left the port. None of us made it to dinner because we all got seasick and stayed in. Later, I managed to sit in the cafe to eat a little, then I brought some bread and ginger ale back to the cabin for Jeannie. I then sat in bed and watched 'Van Helsing' on mute the rest of the night.

We arrived in Nassau the next morning. Our excursion included a short boat tour, and a tour of the Atlantis Resort and Aquarium. We went tourist shopping the rest of the day and bought some rum cake from the Tortuga shop- reminded me of Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans because they made it locally in the store.

It's funny to see the contrast between poorer areas and us tacky tourists.

That night was formal night in the dining room. It was kind of fun to get dressed up for dinner. I think I enjoyed the dining service on this trip most of all. We got to order multiple appetizers, entrees and deserts. I ordered the shrimp cocktail and lamb shank- it was huge. I normally don't like lamb- too gamey, but theirs was quite good. Hmm.

The next day we arrived in Coco Cay. We spent the day laying out on the beach and eating barbecue. A good day to do nothing.

Dinner that night included humus, angus steak and baked alaska for desert.

Our last day out was spent in Key West. We did some more souvenir shopping and tried some conch fritters. We also walked 10 blocks so we could be photographed next to the "Most Southern Point in the US" landmark- in hindsight, that was pretty far to walk just for that .

Key West is known for its six-toed cats... and street chicken?

In between the excursions, we ate at the cafe buffet, sat by the pool, had soft serve served by the pool, ate again at the buffet, watched a little tv in our room, ate once more at the cafe buffet, then ate at the formal dining room, then took in the evening shows. Did I mention we ate a lot on the cruise? We averaged four meals a day- I gained 5 pounds at the end of the week. Overall it was fun.

evening everyone, concert... masses

Saturday, I went with my friend Jodey to Six Flags (Jeannie decided to stay at home since she's not a fan of coasters- very smart considering it dropped down to the 20's that night!)

We rode the Goliath, the best steel coaster at six flags. It goes up 200 feet, but you really can't tell when you're actually on the ride. The only restraining device you get is a lap bar, but that's all you need since there are no loops.

The only other ride we went on was the Scream Machine. Although this was supposed to be the less jarring of the two wooden coasters, it still felt like driving down a dirt road with no shocks.

As we stood in line for the Superman ride, Jodey said it would be funny if when we got up to the front of the line, they said, "Sorry Folks-ride's out of order!" Forty minutes later, just as we were next to get on, a voice came over the loud speaker: "Due to technical difficulties..." We waited another 15 minutes and finally left because we didn't want to be late for that night's concert. As we made our way backwards through the line, I joked with Jodey and said loudly, "Man- I can't believe they couldn't get the blood off that seat!" (immature of me, I know ).

A car we found in the parking lot. Wow- that's too hardcore for me...

Like I said, the temperature dropped to the 20's, but despite that, the band put on a GREAT show. I was expecting a shorter set because of the multiple bands opening for them, but they actually played for the entire hour & a half.

Their setlist included most of the songs from Good Monsters, as well as older songs like Flood, Liquid, and Revolution. They also performed the b-side 'Love Me' --  Matt banged his head to the beat in rock star fashion.

Geeky Trivia: Six Flag's Star Amphitheater was the venue I first saw Depeche Mode live during their Music For The Masses tour- OMD was the opening act (i'm old, i know )
