Restricted!

I was stuck here this weekend because some other people did some bad stuff.  But it gave me time to read my favorite book, The Killer Angels, again.  Also I cooked bacon, eggs, and pancakes from the comfort of my own room.  The pancakes were just from bisquick, I admit.  The bacon wasn't so good for some reason but the eggs and the pancakes were delicious.  Soon I will achieve even greater culinary feats.

Normal Life

I went to get a new desk lamp because mine wasn't working when I moved in.  I plugged in my new lamp and settled into my chair to do homework in comfort.  And the first time I tried to adjust the lamp's direction, it blinked off abruptly and hasn't worked since.  Also I can't find my harmonica.  This is what it's like living in a fallen world =(

I've made it to Exodus 27 or so on my trip through the Bible.  I'm going through the long chapters about the curtainhooks for the Holy of holies for the tabernacle.  It's encouraging, though, because if this much detail went into the original tabernacle, maybe it's ok that I'm a long way from perfect too. =)

Major General Unal says my Turkish accent is perfect =)

I sat up on this balcony area in our dining hall for lunch yesterday because there was a delegation from the Turkish Air Force Academy.  A friend of mine found out about it and got us invited up.  I ended up right next to the Turkish Major General and diagonally across from our own Superintendent, Lt General Regni.    So I didn't talk too much Turkish because my instincts told me it wasn't good to cut a Lieutenant General out of the conversation.  Some of the Turkish Majors were really friendly, it was too bad they were at the other table.  It was fun, though, and really weird hearing those common little Turkish phrases like "lan" and "woy, bey" and "kardesim" in our own Mitchell Hall.

In other news... I got iTunes to play 2 songs at once.  If you press the left arrow key at just the right time as a track is ending, it'll play that one and the next one on a playlist at the same time.  Made me feel pretty cool

I didn't hear about Rebecca's operation until it was almost over yesterday -- phone's in my desk drawer all day.  I got to talk to her after she was (mostly) awake.

Andy's Recipe Book, p. 1

Chocolate Poison

Ingredients:

  • 1 Snack-Pac chocolate pudding

  • 1/2 quart carton of chocolate milk

  • 1/2 quart carton of 2% milk

  • 4 oreo cookies

  • hot chocolate mix

Instructions:

Add cookies, pudding, and chocolate milk to blender.  Fill the plastic snack-pack container half with hot chocolate mix and half with 2% milk, and add to blender.  Then fill snack-pack container with 2% milk and add to blender.

Blend on low for approximately a minute, or until you can't wait any longer.  Please use caution and do not operate motorized vehicles within 8 hours of drinking Chocolate Poison, until you know exactly how Chocolate Poison will affect you.

Tip: for an added boost of taste, chop a Snickers© bar into the blender and blend it with the other ingredients.  I haven't tried this option yet, let me know how it goes.

Wow...

If you want to know how different Americans and Iraqis are, check this out.  Some Sunni insurgents managed to get past Iraqi guards by posing as Americans, driving SUVs and wearing American-looking uniforms.  The Iraqi guards didn't even open fire as the insurgents were leaving, though, and check out their excuse...

When asked why Iraqi police did not intervene to stop the gunmen from fleeing, al-Mishawi said "they assumed it was American-on-American violence and wanted to stay out of it." (CNN.com)

That's the world they live in.  Stuff that's unthinkable to us is the explanation that immediately pops into their heads - or provides a sensible explanation later for cowardice and ineptitude.
