| It'll Be Cold In College"I don't want you to go" That's what you said to me "Without you here, It will get lonely." I brushed it off Said "Wait and see. The future's unclear Maybe we'll be busy." Wish the wind would take away The thoughts inside my head I can't find comfort in Ideas from books I've read Will we wind up together? Will we grow old? Will our frozen hands Be there to hold?
I can't say I can be completely sure |

| Absolutely GeniusUpon research of famous horror authors, I came upon one named Ambrose Bierce. At first, this name meant nothing to me. Then upon further reading, I stumbled across the fact that this poem,
"The bullet that pierced Goebel's breast Can not be found in all the West; Good reason, it is speeding here To stretch McKinley on his bier."
is the poem that this year's U.S. History book said urged the assassination of President McKinley. However, this is quite the contrary. The poem was actually written about the assassination of Governer William Goebel with a meaning to convey shock and dismay rather than urgency for anarchistic uprisings. Once again, this leads me to believe that we must be selective about what we believe in the history books. And when you write poetry, keep in mind that about 5% will misinterpret it, 4% will come close to the original meaning, and 90% will have a better chance at bobbing for apples in a bucket of frozen water rather than get what the hell you were even talking about in the first place. |

| EepSo it seems that I haven't been keeping up with poetry lately... Maybe I just need to get outside more often. I don't feel as compelled to form anything into stanzas rather than chapters. Well, last week's goals got blown off because Mr. Chambers's work has not arrived in the mail yet and I have been both agonized by self-doubt and a biting will to continue an independent study of literature. Because of this, I propose three goals to complete by January 1st, 2008. 1. Finish my study of literature that includes, but is not limited to: Bram Stoker's Dracula Mary Shelley's Frankenstein Robert W. Chambers's The King In Yellow H.P. Lovecraft's Assorted works and anthologies Edgar Allan Poe's Assorted works and anthologies Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Complete Sherlock Holmes Henry James's The Turn Of The Screw Richard Matheson's I Am Legend and What Dreams May Come 2. Begin notes to at least start a novella. 3. Typewriter. Get one of those. |
