| Not much time, but I wanted to write a quick word or two before we head out. We're at Reefo's "Resort" in Airlie Beach, which is a nice, sleepy little port that we were able to relax in, but we're leaving at 8pm tonight. Overnight bus ride... whoo hoo!
Don't have much to update, since Katie doesn't want to hear about anything but boy drama. Been having a great time every single day, except for yesterday when it was FREEZING on our sailing trip and there were about 50 people on board one yacht. Today was a lazy day of shopping and trying kangaroo steaks, but it was nice to not have a million things to do. Jana, our project leader left today and we're all already missing her.
All of the postcards are going to be delayed a few days... heh. I forgot that today was a holiday here and all the post offices are closed. Oh well, you'll get them eventually.
Congrats on the job Ryan! I had no idea. Anyone else working besides him and Katherine? Let me know. I feel so out of the loop.
I can't wait to get back and tell y'all everything that's happened to me. See you all in a week! (oh, and eprops for Brandon and Ryan for updating. Yay!)
| So... guess who got kissed...
Nah, just kidding. But I had you going, didn't I? No? Oh well.
But you'll never guess what I'm doing tomorrow. Go ahead, guess. I'll wait.
Ok, fine. I'm going bungy jumping. I can't believe it myself. But it's gonna be awesome. It's a trip out into the rainforest, and then you get to jump over a remote waterfall/pool location. I'm kind of scared though. I mean, I know there's a very slim, slim chance of anything going wrong, but... We'll see if I survive. If not, then Katherine can have my sweaters (but only the cute ones) and Katie gets all of my books, so she doesn't have to walk to B/N. Ryan can have all my dvds, I guess (but only the ones he doesn't have) and Veronica can have my car so she doesn't have to be seen in that piece of crap she drives now. To Steph, I bequeath (I just had to use that word) all of my semi-artsy jewelry and a piece of pottery to make up for that time we couldn't go make some. Brandon will inherit my cats to do his bidding. And Kistie can have all of my office supplies... and what the heck, I'll throw in all of my ugly sweaters too.
Anyway, I'm in Cairns right now (pronounced 'Cahns') at the Serpent Hostel, a quirky little joint that kind of smells like mold. But it's very comfy. Not nearly as nice as our Gladstone house, though. I miss Gladstone, actually. I was sad to leave it. But at least now I don't have to tackle lantana bushes and pick up trash, I guess. And now we're back together with all of the other ISV groups that went to different locations. A lot of them are really awesome, and I'm glad that I get to hang out with them after meeting them in LA. Some are... less awesome? There's this one girl who's being completely condescending, but completely wrong about everything she talks to us about. And she randomly inserts herself into our conversations. Ugh, she annoys me.
I finally got postcards last night when we went shopping and I'm currently in the process of writing them all. So you should expect them in a week or so.
Oh, a little drama update... Trish and Barrett have taken to not sitting/talking with our group anymore. I still talk to them, but it's rare that they'll be hanging out together with our group. I guess it's better than having them all be forced to live in the same house. Hm, I guess Katherine's right... Friendswoodians just can't help but breed drama wherever they go.
On a side note, ever since I've gotten a xanga I've had this indescribable urge to give out eprops. So Katherine gets 241 eprops for being the first one to email me. Yay!
I'm so exhausted. We spent all day today snorkeling and stuff on the Reef and in the sun. Got up at 5:30am to go do that too. So, I'll update again when I get to the next location, as long as they have internet. Oh, and I expect Brandon and Ryan to update their sites, otherwise, they're not getting their rugby team members. I don't make the rules.
Sweet dreams! | | |
| Yay! Another xanga-tastic visit to the library!
I'm trying to sign on to AIM Express right now, though and it's either going really slow, or it's not gonna work. Boo. I was hoping to get to talk to you guys, cause I really miss home right now. It's taken a little over a week for homesickness to set in, but now it's here and I want to talk to someone from home. Don't be surprised if I call you in the wee hours of the morning, cause by the time I get to a phone, it'll be really early there.
Another thing that took just over a week to set in is the drama. And I thought I was escaping it for a month. Oh no. Can't live in a house with 7 other American girls without there being some drama, can you? Apparently not. Now, this isn't exactly on the same level as Friendswoodian drama, but it's still there. I feel like I'm on an episode of Survivor. Trish (the snorer who I actually don't have to sleep in the same room as any more, since I switched when Mari and Miyuki left) has divided us into 'factions' apparently. She's put me in her camp (blah) along with Barrett. Then there's the rest of the girls all grouped together. Why, I really can't see, since all the rest of the girls get along really well, including Barrett and myself with all the rest. Maybe she just feels a little left out because she's annoying.
Yeah, the annoyance is starting too (seems like 1 week is the cutoff for things working beautifully), but it's nothing really big. Like talking about food. Pretty much every conversation we have has devolved into discussing food. What food do you like? Isn't this Australian food different from this American food? I wish we had this food. Blah blah blah food. And then little quirks about each of them separately that bug me. Not unbearable right now, but it will probably get worse.
Today is Jana's birthday though, which should be fun. We're (secretly, I hope) baking her a cake and then the plan is to sleep out under the stars in the back yard. Which I've never done. It's a little unsettling because there are millions of ants running around the back yard.
So Ryan says I don't update enough. Hm. That's interesting. I've been checking his site every time I come to update this little thing, and everytime there's nothing new. Funny how that is. I'm in Australia without regular internet access and I still manage to update more than him. That goes for Brandon too... update!
Also, I revoke Veronica's eprops because she spelled voyeurism wrong.
Well, it looks like this AIM Express thing isn't working, so I'm gonna head out. Bye, and I'll call soon!
| G'day!
I'm at the library, enjoying the beginning of our first 'off day' by checking emails and whatnot. We found out about this place, sort of by accident, and it's great. Not 10cents a minute for crappy dial up like at the airport. And much more air-conditioned.
Not too much has happened in the time from my last update. We did see more wild kangaroos, which was exciting. We were just driving to work in the morning and one hopped across the road in front of us, and then later down we saw about 8 or 10 of them all together, including a joey and his mum. So adorable.
Mari, Miyuki and Yong (the two Japanese girls and the Korean guy) left this morning, which means that our house here has gotten a bit roomier. And I may not be sleeping in the same room as Trish (the snorer).
Oh, and, as some of you know, I've gotten my phone card working. So far, I've called Ryan Katie and Brandon (though Brandon hung up on me twice so I'm never talking to him again). Katherine's next when I get the chance and then Veronica and Steph when they get back from their trip. Anyone know about Kistie? I have no idea what his schedule's like, so don't know when to call.
On the supervirginity front, there's nothing really to tell. However, we'll be going out for a bit of "Gladstone nightlife" as Kelly (one of our CVA supervisors) called it. Meeting locals and whatnot. So we'll see. I can't disappoint Katie, now can I?
By the way, you guys should comment/email me/do both. I was thoroughly disappointed not to have any eprops when I logged in.
That's it for now! We're about to head out to the beach for a couple of hours of laying in the sun, so I'll talk to you guys again soon!
| Hello! I'm still alive!
And in my defense, my phone card isn't working... which is why I
haven't called you all a million times before now. Because it's
awesome here.
I miss you all so much though!
Right now I'm at the airport, and I'm on a 15 minute limit, so I can't write too much.
All of the girls in my group are awesome. And there's a hot
Aussie named Andrew from CVA who leads our group. And no, sorry,
Katie, no making out with him. Authorityposition and all that.
But as for the girls... there's Jana our ISV leader, and she's super
awesome and probably the one i get along with best. Then there's
Trish... talks a bit like Fleming and snores. Loudly. And I
sleep in a room with her. Yeah, listening to Fallout Boy and
Counting Crows on my iPod has saved me. Then there's Katie and
Danielle, cool girls that knew each other before they came... hilarious
too. they also share my room. Then there's Michelle, the
only Art major and our cooking guru. Eileen is also cool,
although i haven't talked to her as much. Then Barett, a southern
belle type with short hair. A little annoying sometimes, but fun
to be around.
Already I've gotten to hold a baby kangaroo and an olive python, and
climb Mount Larcom (the Sleeping Giant for those of you who want to
look it up). Really awesome stuff, but I'm sooo sore, and my feet
ache. All of today wewere digging up these monstrous weeds called
Lantana, an invasive species that's threatening native ones. But
that's boring biology stuff that I'm sure none of you care about.
Oh, and I found out that we're flying out of Sydney to go to LA.
And the funny thing is that they changed airlines. Instead of Qantas,
we're flying out on Oceanic, flight number 481, leaving at 5:16 out of
gate 23. And I'm in seat 43A. Weird, huh? I'm sure
it'll be a safe flight, though.
Ok, have to run now! I'll be back soon to update again... well as
soon as i can. And hopefully I'll figure out my calling
card. I may ask one of you to call a number and get instrustions
for me later, but I don't have the number with me right now.
Later, mates!
