stacie orrico-there's gotta be more to life

...Here in this moment I'm half way out the door
Onto the next thing, I'm searching for something that's missing
There's gotta be more to life...
Than chasing down every temporary high to satisfy me
Cause the more that I'm...
Tripping out thinking there must be more to life
Well it's life, but I'm sure... there's gotta be more
Than wanting more...

2003 August 14 = northeast blackout

'this day is something that we'll remember forever...'

So...everyone's question of the weekend is...

'where da heck was ur (_*_) during the big b.out?'
here it goes, have i got my story 4 u folks !

....FINALLY, we
decided last minute that we would go that Thursday. Thursday was supposed to be our day to SIX FLAGS, New Jersey. There were my friends and wayne's. We rode most of the roller coaster rides. Nitro was the ulimate best ride of that day. We tried 2X to get on the 2-Hour WAIT line on the Superman! but by the time we did get somewhere on the line, there were "technical difficulties", and it eventually shut down. We didn't realize that there was a northeast blackout until most of the rides were having DIFFICULTIES too, and our NXteLs and AT&T Cells stopped working and screwed us over. But that all didn't HAPPEN until after our group separated and wayne and them tried to get back to the bus to Port Authority in New York. They waited 2 hours for one BUS but didn't get home late either. By around 7PM, my friends and i decided to go home too, and it was 1 HOUR WAIT. We didn't know that the Blackout was so bad in New York until we got there, and you know how you can see the entire city lit up from the highway, just as you are about to get into the tunnel? Nothing was lit except for a couple of windows and bridges. That's when everyone in the bus realized that the city looked like a GHOSTOWN. did they say 5 million people out of power?? geez luiz.

we got stuck in the HOLLAND TUNNEL for another hour. i have to admit, it was really scary. I didn't want to admit it until we had to get off that BUS because of traffic of cars and people all stranded in MANHATTAN. There were so many screwed up PEOPLE that night who didn't even give a damn, and instead took advantage of the chaos by messing things up even more. EVEN some of the POLICE OFFICERS were really screwed up, like when we were asking one of the cops for directions, he just said: "You girls are from here right? Then find your own way back!" We were thinking like: "what the F*K?! Damn stupid f&@* fat @&*#B# bald###*y ass cop don't know how to do your job standing around here like you know it all! DAMN!" haha...all right, now that i had finally VENTILATED THAT OUT, i'm so relieved.! but we didn't talk back to the stupid cop, cause we knew better than that. I guess i learned a thing or two from my traditional parents after all: 'God'll punish them'.

My new way of saying that is, "Punish their a*sses, punish 'em bad! esp. that no-good son of-a *&@^ &#^#*$*t !

wheew...ok. so anyway, the rest of the night, we walked through manhattan, through times square, so that we could get nearer to the 59th St. Bridge to get back to hometown Queens. Even though there were the screwed up people that tried messing with us, there were the people who lightened things up: playing music, dancing, waiting patiently for the best to come. And because i had my friends with me that night, i felt i had security because i wasn't at this whole thing alone, like we could take on anyone who messed with us that night cause we were all together. We tried getting a ride by taxi, but that didn't work, cause many weren't compassionate enough to take us back to Queens, or at least even to the bridge. Finally, our last resort, we were just trying to HITCH almost any ride that could get. about another hour or so, a compassonate spanish man pulled over and was willing to take us home.

gosh, i really felt so desparate that night, cause you should've seen us with our hands waving up the streets trying to find a ride. but in the end, the hardship that i went through with my friends was worth learning from.

aS for wayne and his friends, they didn't get home until about the same time. We all tried looking for each other that night but it was almost impossible with the crowd of people on the street and with our phones not working. But they found their way back home safely as well. Although, what i do BELIEVE was extremely F*d UP was that wayne and them had a chance to get home by car but they weren't able to. It turned out that  one of the boys' girlfriend had contacted someone to drive her home. That someone who was taking her home was offering wayne and the boys a ride too.

THE F*D up thing about that was that the girlfriend was the one who refused her driver's offer to take her boyfriend and the rest home, so instead, SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE that got a RIDE BACK TO QUEENS. HELLO?!?!! IF you're reading this, YOUR A*S better HAVE A FRIGGIN GUILTY CONSCIENCE FOR LEAVING YOUR BOYFRIEND and the rest of YOUR OWN FRIENDS in the CITY. YOU KNOW YOU HAD FRIGGIN ROOM IN THE CAR. COULDN'T YOU SPARE YOUR FRIGGIN GAS FOR ONE NIGHT?! ONE CHAOTIC NIGHT?! DAMN, if something happened to them that night, i WOULD'VE F*D YOU UP PERSONALLY FOR SURE. But DON'T THINK that is A THREAT. IT IS SIMPLY a PAST-TENSE kinda threat...supposing so. I'm just really furious that you would do that to your friends. How do you call yourself a friend and girlfriend at the same time? i apologize to you guyz for my violent words, but that was what i felt, what i had to ventilate.

The rest of the night became blurry with the only things in our minds that we had survived the night trying to keep each other together ya know? You can't rewind back to the past, but if i had the chance to, i wouldn't change one bit, because i learned that every experience is a lesson in life. i'm truly grateful for the friends i have. A lot of things happened today. Even if i don't know what each of us learned, all of us individually learned something from our experience.

THE CITY WAS A GHOST TOWN...
But many were still high spirited
The light that had glowed in my friends and those people
Had shown the way thoughout that night.
Next to the chaos being unvelied in front of us And the only explanations we heard from a small radio,
People had so much hope
They were singing, they were dancing
It was another event for me to remember
That kept the city close together
It was what kept us smiling,
what kept us wanting to stay alive
For but though we were a small number,
We kept our minds intact and kept that fire
Burning
In our hearts and souls
To lead us to our way back home.
