random thoughts

Often the most Christ-like people are not Christian. Or, I should say, my role models are increasingly not Christian. It's common knowledge that a person's faith doesn't determine the content of their character, but more and more I think that ...well... there may only be one way to get to heaven, but I refuse to believe a person's deepest heart of hearts, independent of their actions, means nothing. Not saying we can all be ninnies but still "mean well" and everything's ok. And definitely not saying that we don't need Christ. We need Him because even the best heart of hearts is fallen. However, it's hard to say to someone "um you need Christ into your life" when they have just finished working the actual skin off their fingers to serve others and I've barely put aside time to call my own grandmother or fix dinner for my poor husband.

This bothers me a lot. I'm not giving up my faith or wavering. I will always worship Christ as my Savior because I've experienced Him (once upon a time...*sigh* He seems very far away lately). But. I think that the emphasis some Christians place on the mere act of believing is tantamount to superstition. This has become somewhat of an obsession for me. I will probably never know if I'm *right* or not. Quite frankly I don't care. By the time I know for sure, I'll already be dead and it'll be too late to do any good. But damn it I'm going to be useful, despite or (hopefully) because of my faith.

There is irritatingly excessive emphasis on race and gender in this presidential campaign. How harsh a penalty would an employer experience if there's even a *hint* that race and/or gender were a factor in getting hired? What's so different about the Job Opening for President of the United States? So effin what if he's black or half or whatever? Hillary Clinton's boobs don't give her ideas about how to improve the situation for our troops, and Obama's skin color will not add or subtract anything from his platform. Maybe it's good we're at least having the discussion. Race and gender aside, the whole affair *is* rather historical. For once, in a very long time, the people are showing an interest. Hopefully we will soon recognize our collective power and we'll be become a real democracy again.

Once again I am up way too late with way too much on my mind and way too much to do the next day.
