As the Greeks were owned by the Romans, Xanga was owned by Myspace...

RIP Xanga - You were good while you lasted...
sitting in their hot tub. I noticed a chain the guy sitting
across from me was wearing. It was a gold chain with a globe,
eagle, and anchor piece on it, which immediately got my
attention. I told him I liked his chain and asked him if he was
enlisted or commisioned. He told me he was enlisted, and that he
dropped out of college in the early sixties after seeing a John Wayne
movie and joined up. I then asked him what he did in the
Corps. He told me he was Force Recon and he served THREE tours in
'Nam. I was dumbfounded. He told me about how he still
can't talk about a lot of things he did and how he buried many of his
friends. He spent all of 1965, 1966, and 1967 in that miserable
Southeast Asian country. He told me all about Tet and how he
dealth with that. On his 3rd tour, he got four purple hearts and
from that, realized the he wouldn't come home from a fourth tour.
And after everything he told me, all the pain he endured, all the
nightmares he had after that, all the friends he buried, all the
separation from his family, all the readjustment back to civilian life,
all his secrets the world will never know, and all the tears he shed
(even the ones he shed telling me his story), he would not trade a day
of it; the seven years that he gave to the Corps and his country would
never be traded by him for anything. He would do it all over
again if he had the chance. As I listened to him I realized: this
is what it is all about. This is why I want to serve my
country. I am willing to bear the crushing burdens, to watch
friends die, to do things others cannot stomach, to make sacrifices so
great that my life could never be the same, to endure perpetual
emotional and physical pain, and to do all these things without anybody
else knowing, without ever asking for thanks or help or gratitude. I am
willing to sacrifice and suffer so others don't have to. That is
the true spirit of a serviceman; one that I can only hope to fufill.
Thursday, September 08, 2005

Good luck to everyone looking to be Academy bound... and those looking

summer was incredible! From 3 weeks in Europe to DC to the Keys,
it was an unforgettable experience. The new school year will be
my last. Then its off to college. With cross country, SATs,
ACTs, college applications, track, and maybe lacrosse, this year will
be even more excited than last year. I hope you are ready, cuz
it's on!
Tuesday, June 28, 2005

Off to the Keys today... for 5 weeks... I just got back a week ago and
now I am leaving again. At least I don't have to deal with
airport security anymore since we are driving. It will take about
11 hours, so the trip time is about the same. I'm sorry Angie.
And to all those wondering about the David Opp video:
I am trying to figure out how to transfer it from the camera to the
hard drive of my PC and either posting it online somewhere or
distributing it from there. I will make it available somehow for
your viewing pleasure.
I just got back from a 3 week trip to Europe.
As was expected, it was amazing. I saw many beautiful things,
from the Vatican to Prague and Ancient Rome to Paris, it was
incredible. I made lots of friends with people I never would have
expected, even the Dems. I saw many interesting things, from
students kissing bus drivers to David Opp singing drunken Dashboard
Confessional while drinking Johnny Walker (I have video). I have
become more embarassed for Americans while at the same time become
prouder to be one. I am glad to be back so I can drive my
V8, eat large beef burgers, shoot my guns, wear clean clothes, and most
importantly, see Angie. I will miss the close companionship, the Venice
beach parties, the late night chill sessions, the beautiful and new
place and the adventures in alcohol land. In short, I had
fun. Can't wait till next summer.
The long-haired Weed you once knew and loved (maybe)
is now gone. As of June 25th, I no longers have the brown lockes.
So it goes
A lot has changed in the past year, and it was
probably my most dynamic year yet. Who knows what this next and
final year of high school will bring? Coming soon: Third Battle
of the Scholastic Aptitude test, Battle of the ACT, the Search for
the Perfect School, the Trials of the College Entrance Boards and the
Culmination of our High School Careers. It will be a year full of
fireworks. Are you ready?

Noble, friendly, soft-spoken is he

This is the rime of John McDuffie

Assess the validity, write the long essay

For I have written my last for histo-ray

Lecturing quickly, rocking his pulpit

Will I ever need all this bull-shit?

Read the chapters, but I have no fear

For I have not read a chapter all year

Poor old McDuffie, the subject of prank

At least the tea in his pool won't be rank!
