My baby has got it BAD!

My 10 year old son (K) has a huge, and I mean HUGE crush on a girl at school and apparently has for quite some time.  He finally admitted to it earlier this year and would only tell us her initials, but my 8-yo figured it our right away and spilled the beans.  LOL  But we haven't been allowed to tease him (he's very sensitive) and not even allowed to say her name, just her initials...EB.

Over the school year, I've observed my son K and EB when they are in the same group and I think she has a bit of a crush on him too.  DH has been trying to get him to at least talk to her a bit more, but he gets nervous.  LOL  He finally decided he wanted to write her a note and I found a cute song that would help him express his feelings in his innocent, 10-yo way.  The song is "For You I Will" which DH burned on a CD for her.  K picked out the CD label and picked one with green flowers on it... her favorite color.  Here's the note he wrote:

    Dear EB:

I have liked you for almost 3 years and this song reminds me of how I feel about you.  I think you are a beautiful angel.  I would like to take you to a movie this summer.  Please call me at xxx-xxxx.

    Love,

    K....

P.S.  Don't tell your friends about this.

OMG, the "beautiful angel" really got me!  This boy has got it BAD!  I really hope she doesn't break his heart.  Oh, and at dinner little DS was doing his "would you rather" thing (usually two gross choices).  DH then asks K if he would rather kiss EB or go to Disneyland...  He said, "Hmmm that's tough".  Holly COW!  It's the first time he's admitted that he would even want to kiss a girl... my baby is growing up WAY too fast!  Now in reality, I think he would freak out and run away if she tried to kiss him even on the cheek.  LOL  (He did finally decide to kiss EB at Disneyland).

  • 8 Random things about me

I was tagged by cz_scrap and since I haven't done much blogging lately thought I'd give it a shot.

    Here are the rules:
*Post the rules before you give the facts.
*Post eight random facts about yourself.
*At the end of your blog post, you need to tag 3 people and list their names
*Leave the people you tagged a comment on their blog, letting them know that they've been tagged.

    1.  I believe that life is full of choices.  We all make mistakes and the wrong choices sometimes.  They should not define who we are, but can influence who we become.  Acknowledge the mistake, learn from it, make amends if needed, and move on.

    2.  Being a mother terrifies me.  I feel inadequate and ill prepared, but I wouldn't give it up for the world.

    3.  I have two wonderful sons, whom I adore.  I never wanted a daughter and think I would be a neurotic mess if I had one.  LOL

    4.  My favorite flowers are peonies, especially pink ones.  Even better when mixed with white roses like the ones on my kitchen table.  A gift from me to me.

    5.  I am pro-choice and feel that no woman should be forced to have a child she doesn't want or feel she can care for.  I also don't think abortion should be used as a form of birth control.  Three strikes...  then forced sterilization.

    6.  I think gay and lesbian people should be allowed to marry.  Two consenting adults who love each other and are willing to make a life long commitment to each other should be allowed to do so.  As for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage due to religious reasons... what happened to the separation of church and state?

    7.  I can be very opinionated.  LOL  But I'm always willing to hear other's arguments, learn from them, and change my opinion if I feel I should do so.

    8.  I am a night owl and would stay up until 4:00 and then sleep until 11:00 if I didn't have other obligations.  As it is I'm usually up until 1 or 2, sleep until 6:30.  About once or twice a month I crash and go to bed around 8:00 with the kids.

I'm tagging:  boltnut55, shutterbugd, and sueinwi

    It's happened again... vent

While at the grocery store last week it happened again.  I let the boys hang out in the toy section while I finished shopping in the produce department for 5 minutes.  This is my form of bribery for behaving during out shopping trip.  When I returned to gather them and head to the check out line, a woman with a child asks, "Are these your children?"  Oh, man.  What did they do...?  She proceeds to tell me that, no they were very well behaved and extremely polite.  She then leans over and asks in a loud whisper, "Oh, so are they adopted?"

I don't know why this bothers me so much.  Maybe it's the stretch marks I still have or the scar across my lower abdomen from 2 c-sections?  Or maybe that it just seems incredibly presumptuous?  In this day and age, in a neighborhood with many, many interracial marriages, why would someone ask that?  Especially to a complete stranger?  Well maybe if they were looking at adoption and wanted information, then I guess maybe...

So, I get it...  my kids don't look like me at first glace, mostly because of their coloring compared to mine.  However, just once (or twice) I'd love to stop being the polite one and say that I found them on the corner and just took them home, or perhaps give them a look and "Shut up - they don't know!".  Or some other quip that would make them think twice the next time.  Usually I just say, that yes, I look like the nanny.  The funny thing is, that when I have my niece and nephews with me (DH's sister's kids who are also mixed) people assume that all 5 are mine and tell me how great I look for having 5 kids.  LOL

Here they are with the "nanny":

About Me

  • I am the mother of two wonderful boys and married to a great guy for the last 16 years. I'm also an avid scrapbooker and scrapbook supply collector. I work part time doing financial work for an actuary and really enjoy my work. I also enjoy many types of music and love to see DH's band play live. Other than that, life is somewhat boring (between daily child and family crisis) and I like it that way!
