Missing Russia

I was looking at some of my pictures from my trip to Russia last summer and thinking that I can't believe it has already been 10 months since I was there. I miss it. I hear about a couple of friends who are going to live there this August and a part of me says "Can Philip and I go too? I would love to teach English!" Oh well, our time will come, but until then I think I am a bit home sick. Russia is where I really want to be. I keep speaking Russian to people at work by accident and I was in my car this morning asking my imaginary friend in the passenger seat (in Russian) how to get different places. "Excuse me, how do I get to Red Square?"

I know it sounds crazy, but I love the people. I love talking with students and everyday ordinary people. I had an awesome experience when, on our very last day in Moscow before heading home Brooke, Rebekah, and I talked to several ladies who ran the kiosk down the street from our dorm. They were so excited, because they had Americans  in their store. Oh my gosh, they couldn't believe it. With our (somewhat) Russian, their no English, and both of our nonverbal communication skills we talked with them for about 15 minutes. That is what I love.

I will leave you with this, if you felt called then it is your obligation to answer. Some of my friends have been called in to His work the past few months and I am rejoicing for you. Pray for those who are there now and for His guidance for your life. He will never leave you and will always fulfill His plan for your life. May He bless you and keep you today and everyday.

Blessings,

Becks:)

Spring Is Here!

Hello wonderful people!

I just thought I would say how glad I am that is Spring is here! I received several e-mails from workers and friends in Azerbaijan about their Spring holiday known as Novruz. It is to celebrate the coming of Spring. Much like our Spring Break, they are out of school, but they go all out and have singing, dancing, and of course FOOD! I love this country!

With all joking aside, Spring is one of my favorite seasons. The weather has been beautiful the past few days and I actually went to the park yesterday for a while to enjoy the lovely day before going to work. I sat underneath the big Weeping Willow tree by the spring and enjoyed every minute of it. This time of year is also one of my favorites, because (even though it is usually the time of year when we have the most sever storms) it is very easy for me to see God's providence all around me. I feel the wind blow and the sun's rays hitting my face and I can't help but feel God's grace. He loves us and has given us everything we have.

Here is a challenge. Sometime when you have a chance, take just a few minutes out of your busy schedule and go to an open space outdoors and just take a look around you. What do you see, feel, think? Take a minute and say a quick prayer of thanks for something(s) you experience while there. Perhaps it will put a smile on your face. I know it did for me.

May this day be filled with blessings. I love you all.

Happy Belated Valentine's Day Everyone!

Hello everyone,

I know it has been a long, long, long, time since I have written on Xanga and I apologize for those who have checked it with no avail (namely my parents, sorry Dad). Anyway, it is kind of sad that I don't communicate better with my parents. I live at home (until July of course), but I don't communicate with my parents as much as I should. For this, I want to say sorry Mom and Dad. I love you both very much.

I hope everyone had a good valentine's day. Mine was okay. I think Philip and I will celebrate it when he come home (which, I have no clue when that will be). I have never been big into the holiday myself, but I think it should be expressed more often than just once a year. I myself would rather have my sweetheart do something special for me on a "non-holiday" rather than on a national holiday like Valentine's Day. I just think it is more special that way. I know I am for the most part a typical girl and I like being pampered, but you don't have to buy me chocolates and flowers. I agree with Philip (which is one of the reasons I am marrying him) that chocolates and flowers are way too overdone. I like things that are longer lasting than that and they have more meaning to me.

So, I will get off that subject. Sorry for rambling, but that is one of the things I do best. I hope everyone had a good day (even if God hasn't shown you your true "sweetheart" yet). Know that God says in his word there is a time and a purpose for everything. He will give you the desires of your heart if you ask him. However, it doesn't come overnight sometimes. If you believe in God, be happy with your situation whatever it is because he promises us he is with us. So, if you don't have a sweetheart maybe it is because God wants you to be his. Pray... he will hear you.

Happy Belated Valentine's Day Everyone!

Blessings,

Becks:)

Merry Christmas from Azerbaijan!

We arrived in Azerbaijan early Friday morning local time after the worst traveling experience I think I have ever had. After we boarded the plane and flew to Chicago the adventure just kept getting better and better. We arrived in Chicago and our flight to London Heathrow was already boarding two concourses away. So, we got in the line for the tram and the lady said if you have time you can walk to your Concourse C. So, we asked her what we should do and her reply after glancing at Tylie's boarding pass was; "You'd better start runnin'!!!!". So, we all took off in a dead sprint. We arrived at 8:40 and our plane was leaving at 9:15". I was about to die when we arrived with only minutes to spare. We got on the plane and Philip and I's seats had already been given to two other girls who didn't want to sit in the exit row. We felt bad but we fought to get our seats back.

We made it to London and when we arrived there were a bunch of cancelations due to the thick fog. We were in a holding pattern for 20 minutes before we even got to land. However, we did not let the fog ruin our day. We went out and spent about 5 hours in London. We got to see the sights at a speed walking pace.

Then, we got back to Heathrow and had to battle our way through 3 concourses before we finally got to the correct one. All of British Airways' domestic flights were canceled for that day and the day before so, many people were stranded in the airport. However, we finally made it to Baku and we have been going ever since. This afternoon we are resting so, I had better go and watch Elf with the rest of the gang. I love you all and have a Merry Christmas.

Becks:)
