Self realization; a journey

In the search for who I am, there's a quote that I found a few years ago that could be used as an inspiration.

"Seek not the depths of your knowledge with staff or sounding line, for self is a sea boundless and measureless, and the soul walks along all paths"
                                                                        -Khalil Gibran

It speaks the truth. If you want to discover who you really are, you must walk your own path, pave your own way. Many people, myself included, forget that you need to live your own life, not someone elses. No one is less than another until they live the life of someone else, then because they have chosen to not live their own life and tap their own potential, they've become less than everyone else but above all, less than they could be.

The lesson I hope people take from this, whoever reads it, is to rise above what others expect of you. The expectations you have for yourself are so much higher than what someone else has for you. You may not believe it, but your standards for yourself are what matters, because in this society where standards are based upon average, thats what people settle for, the standard of the self has been lost. Achieve your goals, because that's the only way you can truely be satisfied with your life.

Rant

I don't even know what I'm pissed about, but I'll rant anyway, maybe that'll help. What I can't understand is why everyone thinks they can jerk me around. tell me what to do and not give anything in return. I don't think it's funny. People always ask me what I think or what they should do in a situation, and when I tell them what I think should be done or what I would do, they decide that it's too much work. And what happens later on? They come up to me and tell me I was right, but they don't stop there, they try to push the blame on them. Well I can't tell you what to do with you're life, you're supposedly grown up people, decide for yourselves for once. I don't care if you can't do anything without mommy and daddy's say so, you think you're so great then prove it. Don't blame me when your life doesn't go right. If you think you can make a joke out of me, you're sadly mistaken and it's only gonna hit you in the end, how many times do I have to prove this? You know what, just leave me alone if you don't really wanna hear what I have to say.
