| Connor and I had a great trip to Omaha.....minus a 2 hour detour due to I 80 being closed due to flooding.....but we made the best of it and found the movie site for the "Field of Dreams".....check out the pictures.....
It definitely was Iowa....not heaven!!! :)
As you can see, the field was suffering from the rainy spring......and the corn wasn't any taller than the grass.
Here is the bleacher bum mom.....but I'm not watching a game!!! And I was a little tired of driving at this point.
Once again, I got to go to the College World Series, but this time with Connor instead of Brandon. What a fun time and we even got to see Georgia,Fresno State, UNC, and Stanford play while we were there. For those who don't know, Fresno State ended up winning the championship...... This stadium will be no longer in 2010 since they are moving it. The locals are not happy about it..... Connor's team had a perfect record out in their tournament in Omaha....0-4!!! I didn't say how perfect!! We played the #1 team from Colorado and lost 19-3....atleast we didn't get shut out....and then from there we just couldn't win but we had close games and we had fun!! :) On a totally different subject....I found this picture of Dakota when I was downloading.....just a comparison of how little she was.... Feb 07 to Feb 08 Notice the snow....thought that might cool you
off in this summer heat!! Other than that, I dropped Brandon off at the airport this a.m. with his youth group. They are going to be in Mexico for a missions trip until July 4th. Hopefully he'll be able to use the spanish he has been studying the last few years as well as be a vital part in the ministry that they are going to do. I think they are going to help with the construction of a church, do vacation bible school, sports evangelism, etc. I'm excited that he is getting this opportunity and I know it will be a life changing experience for him and his whole group. That's all for now....have a wonderful 4th of July!!! | | |
| Well, life is moving faster than it ever has before!!! On June 5th, Connor graduated from 8th grade. Brandon finished his sophomore year in high school, and tomorrow, Garrett and Ethan finish their 3rd and 4th grade years.....wow! I am trying to attach some pictures of Connor and the boys....I haven't posted in so long, so I'm trying to remember how to do this!! Last week I became certified as a Lifeguard Instructor by the American Red Cross....a very long and stressful week. We started with a class of 12 and ended with 5 who finished the course AND passed! This will allow me to be able to help my aquatic director teach our lifeguards at the high school.....I can't wait!!! We are in the middle of another thunderstorm so I am going to make this short....enjoy the pictures! My hair looked gross since it was still wet from my Lifeguard Instructor course!!!! Oh well....and this was the hottest day!!! We went from 53 degrees on Wed to 85 degrees on this day! The four boys...don't they looked thrilled for their brother????
Connor and his friend Marshall....don't you just wonder what they are dreaming up for their freshman year of high school????? I love this picture of Connor! He looks
so happy to be graduating 8th grade!!!
Ethan catching during his "Allstar" game!! My puppy, Dakota.....sunbathing in my flowers!

| First off, I have enjoyed reading everyone's entries and atleast keeping on top of all the family news! I just haven't been able to post due to computer problems at home and inability to get on xanga at work.....it is blocked! But the Fowkes' are still around!! It is the end of spring break.....we stayed around town due to Brandon having baseball practice all week. They have not played one game yet due to the weather and all games were unable to be played over spring break as well. He has blisters on his hands from doing soooo much batting practice!!! I told him that his team better have great batting averages this year with as much batting practice that they have gotten!! As an outfielder, he is very anxious to get outside to catch real fly balls!! Connor and Ethan have both had indoor baseball practices, too, but Ethan had a rare opportunity to go to Arizona with his team back in February,so he is the only one who has actually been able to play outside so far!! Garrett will start spring soccer this coming week, but they play in any kind of weather!! Basketball ended officially 2 weeks ago in our family. The NCAA March Madness is filling that void right now!! Brandon's sophomore team did really well and I hated seeing that season come to an end since they were playing very well together. Church, work, and school are all going well. There is never a dull moment in the Fowkes' household!! Dave just got back from Colorado from the olympic training center and he was out there for a week to take a course/exam for being the highest level of cycling referee. He passed!!! He is now qualified to officiate the olympics, which would be a pretty awesome experience, especially if Chicago wins the bid for 2016!! Not much else new....I have to go practice piano.....somehow, I am playing piano at church tomorrow....all our pianist are out of town due to spring break and our music director is, too, so I'm fillin' in!!!! Oh boy!! It should be fun and I'm actually looking forward to it!! Have a great day and come on spring!!!! | | |
| I have not downloaded pictures yet from our week at Gull Lake, so no pictures to post right this minute, but I just wanted to share with all of you that I had a job interview at the High School here in town, Libertyville High School, for a Physical Education Assistant/Aquatic Assistant. I got the job!!! It is a full time job, which we needed at this point, and it will be in my area of education since I have my teaching certificate in PE. As I was being interviewed, I really got excited about the job. I'm not in charge of teaching, which is kind of nice since I won't have to do lesson plans, etc, but I'm going to get opportunities to teach in the pool and be able to get in some of the other PE classes so I will get a feel for what goes on. Plus, Brandon goes to this school and in a year, Connor will be there, so I can keep a little eye on them!! :) The scary part is that I need to get my lifesaving certificate again.....it's been a long time since I have done that and it is physically hard. But I get to do it with one of the high school classes!!! This could be embarrassing and humiliating!!!! Atleast I love to swim!! And I'll be getting back into shape in the process!! So that is the new news here. Brandon started band camp this week and will be playing the Quads....he really wanted to do that but didn't think he was going to be chosen to do it. They have their first 1/2 time performance next Friday...the 24th, so not much time to learn the cadances, program, etc. Can't wait, though, to see it!!! And you all know that 1/2 time IS game time!!! :) Connor starts football next week and Ethan and Garrett start soccer in 2 weeks. We are starting to get in the mode for school, but always hate to see summer come to an end. It was good to see alot of you over our "vacation"......especially the opportunity to meet little Elijah!!!! He is a precious great nephew!! If some of you haven't heard already, my nephew, who wasn't so great to his Aunt :), beat me in the ping pong tournie at Gull Lake......he ended up winning the tournament, so I was VERY proud of him......ask him about what flavor ice cream champions like to eat.....ask him how high his championship certificate should be placed on the wall in order for all to see...... :) I am demanding a rematch.......next summer....it's on Brett, ok????!!!!! G & G Porter.....fun as always hanging out at the pool with you and celebrating grandpa's 80th birthday!! Signing off for now....mainly cuz Dakota got into the trash, dug up one of my plants, escaped cuz someone left the gate open and a loving neighbor brought her back, etc etc etc......Nan....you were smart.....that's all I'll say!!!!
