I'll be looking for a laptop in the next few months. My desktop is fine, but I need to be able to travel with it, and I don't want to worry about cords. I want to be able to hook up to internet when it's available in the hotels/motels I stay in. I want it to be able to handle the Microsoft business software. And I hear that after June, XP is being exchanged for Vista as the standard. I need, at the very least, 2 GB of memory to handle the Vista - I read that.

What I can't find out from my research is whether Microsoft Word and Excel work well with Vista. I have Vista on my desktop. I don't have Excel. (I guess I could get it and see)

The only incompatibility I've found is with my Ancestry.com software (Family Tree Maker), but that was there before I had the Vista, too.

So, any thoughts?

Oh yeah, I don't have a big budget, so the best I can get for the least is what I want.

You should let my husband build you a lap top. That's my thought. We are anti windows, but he keeps it on my machine because i use it for entertainment. Yeah, that's all I think.

Stay away from vista it sucks really bad. How are you it has been a while since I have been through. Hope all is well.

I think that will be hard as Vista is set to be the new standard after June, and Microsoft won't be supporting other systems after next year. At least that's what I've read and heard.

I have Vista on my desktop.

I'm not sure where you are -- there is a chain of Laptop stores called Notebook Shop in the Los Angeles/Orange County area that has good deals and, even better, good technicians and support with laptops. If you're anywhere near, it might be worth a visit...
