Hosting problems and what to do?

Well, each and every year, my one domain at thehangout2.com is guaranteed to go down for anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks. The host on the account is "Noeclue.com" and the are truly pathetic, their service is awful and they are anything but reliable.

Now I know some are wondering why I don't just move to another host, I wish I could. But I set the site up under one of those deals where the host also registers your domain name for you, this is a huge mistake for anyone to do. You ALWAYS want control of your own domain, so NEVER trust the registration to anyone but yourself.

So now my site has been down since the end of May, Noeclue does not bother to reply to any support emails or questions. And to be honest, I don't even want the domain renewed, I have ask Noeclue probably a hundred times over the past 5 years to push the domain name to me, but its not being done.

What I don't understand about all of this deal with Noeclue is that all of my bitching to them has earned me years of free service, but as they say.... you get what you pay for, and I would much sooner just be paying for a reliable and dependable host, that a free host that can't seem to get their act together.

So at this point, I am thinking about moving the content from that site, to this blog and making an effort here to keep this up active.

Fluorescent Bulbs

Have you replaced the light bulbs in your home with the fluorescent bulbs ?   If you have, then what has been your experience, how long ago did you switch over to the fluorescent type bulbs and have they lasted longer for you?

The reason I ask is because I spent around $50 to replace EVERY bulb in my home, that was around 6 month ago and those bulbs are burning out already.

I am not going to stop using them, because they are more friendly for the environment and suppose to help to control green house gases, but I want to know what experience other's have had and where they purchased their bulbs from.

Mine where purchased at various stores, some at just the dollar general, some at walmart, kmart and then some at Lowe's. I am going to watch for sales and pick them up when they are on sale.

Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving not much over 2 weeks away, I find my thoughts return to past thanksgivings that have been spent with family and friends. Each year, the family seems to grow smaller and smaller and right now there is only hubby's side of the family left, mine has all passed on, except for my older brother and I have no idea where he is even at right now.

Like most, I look forward to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, and probably even more so than I did when I was younger and took things for granted and yes the older one gets, the faster time does go by.

Holiday Cooking

This is the time of the year that I start to think about my Mom and my Grandparents.   My Grandparents always had such a huge feast during the Holidays, it started around Thanksgiving and would end after the 1st of the upcoming year.

As a child, those days are some of my best memories and especially my Aunt Lil and her Cranberry Jello Salad , scalloped potatoes, lasagna and her toll house cookies that where such a favorite with almost everyone.   And

Now My mom came from a pretty good size family with her having 3 sisters and 3 brothers.   Each would bring their own dish and my mom would generally cook the turkey and bake the pies.

My mom NEVER used a recipe, she just put the needed ingredients into a bowl and they always turned out perfect, I still can't cook that good, even with the help of a recipe book or should say BOOKS.

Most all have passed away now, my Aunt Lil who lives in Arizona and is in her 80's now, she is the only one left.   I do have quiet a few cousins, but like most cousins, we have not kept in touch.

I have an older brother, but we have even lost contact over the years, the last I heard from him, he was moving from California to Georgia and that has been over 5 years ago now.

Favorite Blog

This Xanga Blog is my very 1st blog that I ever set up. For some reason I have always liked this blog and the design that I set it place back years ago. I have tried changing it more than once, but I always end up going back to this theme. I don't know what it is about this theme, but I find it relaxing and I can spend hours here going through the different xanga sites and always find something of interest.

I recently upgraded and went to the premium service for a few months to see if it was worth keeping and I am definately going to stay with the upgraded service.
