Aren't we supposed to be different?
Aren't people supposed to look at us and wonder what we have that they dont?
Shouldn't we be able to shine in a classroom? stand out at a party? be noticed in a crowd?
Aren't we supposed to be different?
I dont understand how we continue to do it but we do, as Christian we begin to lower the bar right along with the rest of the world. Sure what we are doing now is nothing compared to what non-believers do... sure we are just joking and its all in good fun... certainly we have marked our boundaries and refuse to cross them. But how low are those boundaries?
Im sick of hearing about good people making out with friends 'just for fun' (are you kidding me????) I am tired of listening to my friends say cuss words or make racist jokes because they are funny. I am done with walking out of church sunday afternoon and into a movie theater where the movie is half sex, one quarter language, and one quarter blood and gore. I am through with lowering my standards and i am through with conforming.
Just because every other non-believer is out having sex doesnt mean us as believers are now allowed to make out spontaneously just for fun. 10 years ago that would have been appalling, today its 'not like we're having sex' (is that an honest biblical argument, or logical even?)
Why, someone seriously why? Why do we lower our standards with the world. Yes we maintain distance we aren't 'as bad' but honestly if we measured ourselves by Gods standards and held our lives up next to Christ's we aren't exactly 'as good' either.
Now im pretty sure as Christians we have made commitments to our world to be examples, we have made commitments to ourselves to be changed, and we have made commitments to God to obey. When did that change? When did our commitment to be an example become a yearning for acceptance? When did our commitment to be changed become a struggle for normalcy? When did our commitment to obey become just another way to make ourselves unique?
Ya know what im gonna go ahead and challenge all 5 of you who still read this thing... im gonna challenge your faith. I dont know if its possible to love God and not obey him, sure we slip everyone does we all do, but if you truly believe and you honestly Love God then there is no way you dont get right back up every single time. If you find yourself constantly falling into certain sins that you are accepting then i ask you this... do you love God enough to hear him?
ya see i think we've come to a point where being a Christian is actually a cool thing, its a little bit different and a little unique... i think we have a trapped generation unsure of the reality of God but are confident in the word. I think there are Christians out there who haven't a clue what they believe about almost anything. I think the blind are leading the blind and the lost are not being found, but are finding others and without knowing it getting lost with them. I think we have a following of people who know God exists but haven't a clue who he truly is.
I ask you again... Aren't we supposed to be different?
Shouldn't we live ever breath for God. This world needs to redefine love and Christians need to be it. We all know 1 Corinthians 13:4 the verse about the qualities of love...
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8Love never fails.
I submit to you 1 John 4:8
8Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
Now combine the two...
4God is patient, God is kind. He does not envy, he does not boast, he is not proud. 5He is not rude, he is not self-seeking, he is not easily angered, he keeps no record of wrongs. 6God does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7He always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8God never fails.
People thats our example, that is our standard. How far away have we gotten from that? How many of those bad things do we do regularly and never think twice about it? How many of the good things listed there do we do? Im sure the ladder was a smaller list.
If we lived out even half of those things even half of the time... we would all be better people, but lets strive for perfection. No matter how many times people tell me i wont reach it, God tells me its my job to try.
Lets be noticed for being different. Lets have people ask us what we have that they dont. Lets be an example for the sake of the world and the sake of our own faith because I guarantee nothing will further solidify your faith more than seeing the face of God before you, and nothing will change people more than seeing that face in you. |
