| Happy Birthday Julian!Julian turns 3 today! | | |
| Wildwood 2007OK, sorry it's been so long.... not only do I spend more time on Facebook than here these days, but I've also been too busy living life to document it!
We went down to Wildwood for the first DCA competition of the summer. Bucs won again, which was no huge surprise to me, but it was nice to have confirmation.
Friday afternoon we checked into the hotel and then took Julian down to the boardwalk. He totally dug the tramcar, which he called a train. We rode all the way to the north end of the boardwalk, where there was a sign that said "You have reached the end of the Wildwood boardwalk of fame and happiness." Lisa and I decided that the part north of there must be the boardwalk of insignificance and ennui. We got off the tram and went down to the beach, just thinking that we'd walk along the shore and maybe let Julian play in the sand. He of course got completely soaked by a breaker, which we should have expected. He was still pretty happy for a while, but it was cool on Friday and by the time we got back to the boardwalk he was shivering, so we got him a hoodie and headed back to the hotel to change him.
Next we went to the park where Bucs practice. It was pretty nice to be able to walk around and check out all the sections doing their thing. My official "best subsectional playing" award has to go to the quads, holy shit those guys are good! It was also nice to NOT feel like I did at Wildwood in 2004, when I was totally miserable all weekend not being a marching member. I think I am finally ready to be a spectator, at least for a few years.
On Saturday we got up nice and late (thank you Julian!) and went to the buffet in the hotel. For those who haven't been to the Rusty Rudder buffet under the Beach Terrace hotel, I highly recommend it. The food is not 5 star, but it's good and there's a ton of variety. We went out to the boardwalk again after breakfast to see if the rides were open, but they were not so we just wandered around a little. We took Julian on a go-kart, which he loved.
We went out to the park for the Bucs lunch break, so Lisa could hang with her support staff homies. After that we took Julian back to the beach, this time dressed for the occasion. He liked the waves to a point, but when I picked him up and took him to about my waist level, he started to get scared. He didn't freak out or anything, he just said to me very insistently, "It's time to go see mommy now." :)
The Mea family was there too, and they were very sweet, they bought Julian some beach toys including a big plastic truck which turned out to be the hit toy of the weekend. He also played with Greg Mea for like an hour. Lisa and I have decided that we should always travel with teenagers, it frees us up tremendously!
Lisa and Julian went back to the hotel for a nap, and I went for a bike ride. I timed it pretty well, I got to rehearsal about 5 minutes before the run-through (which was really good), and then I went to check out Cabs.... I didn't stay for their whole runthrough. Yeah. After that, I rode down to the south end of Wildwood, to the Cape May bridge. I was hoping there would be a bike path all the way, but I had to ride on the street a lot. The streets in Wildwood SUCK, they're like half patches. Oh well.
The show was cool. I was supposed to help the Bucs pit move their shit in, but when I got out there they already had enough people, so I actually got to see the whole show. I'm not going to do a review, other than to say that I think the Bucs will have another undefeated season... as long as they don't get comfortable and stop working. But I know the staff, they won't let that happen.
After the show, we handed Julian over to Mandey. Talk about the most awesome babysitter in the history of babysitting! They went to the boardwalk so Lisa and I could go to Kelly's. Lisa lasted until about midnight, then I walked her back to the hotel and exchanged her for Mandey, who I walked back to the school before returning to Kelly's. Then I was incredibly entertained by Rich Hammond and Kevin Murphy playing a really funny game with an unsuspecting participant. :) If you were there, you know what I'm talking about, if not I can't really explain it on here.
Sunday was exhausting, needless to say, but Julian still did pretty well. We did the buffet again, then went back to the boardwalk one last time. We went into that aquarium place that I've walked by for years, it was actually not bad. I touched the little sharks and the rays, but Julian didn't want to put his hand in the water. Maybe next year! We headed home after lunch, and considering the shape that Lisa and I were both in, we're probably lucky to be alive.
So yeah, that's the story!
| May 25thNot only did "Star Wars" premier on this date 30 years ago, but Lisa and I were married in Austin, Texas, ten years ago today.
It was hot as a muthafucka in that damn tux too.... we got married outside. Because we're stupid like that.

| Julian quotesI have absolutely no time to be doing this, so of course I'm going to.
Julian had some classic lines last night. First, we were playing with a little foam stomp rocket, it's a toy that has an air tube feeding up into the rocket and when you stop on the button it shoots up in the air. He brought it in the living room and then told us "I can't play with this rocket in here because it will hit the fan and will be very owwie for the fan." So we told him to take it over on the hardwood floor, and he said, "But I can't because it will be very owwie for me to stop on this floor, see?" He then proceeded to demonstrate by stomping directly on the wood.
When we told him it was time to go upstairs for bed, he was playing with his etch-a-sketch, so he said "I'm working on a project. I will bring my project upstairs." When we got to the top of the stairs he said, "I will work on this project in the basket." Then he sat down in the laundry basket and started drawing.
As we were putting him to bed, I laid my head down on his chest. He laid there quietly for a second, then he said, "Daddy... you're on my nipple."
When we were getting ready to leave his room for the night, his delaying tactic was, "Mommy I need cough mecidine!" We told him he didn't need cough medicine since he didn't have a cough, and he said "I do have a cough! It's right here in my mouth, see?" And then he fake coughed right in Lisa's face.
He's quite entertaining.
