  • Well, I had really hoped to update with some pictures this time but my out-in-the-middle-of-the-cane-fields internent won't allow me. (Or it will but it will be agonizingly slow) One picture takes about 6 minutes and I have about a dozen.

We are in our last week of lecture! HURRAY! We have made it to the end and I'm happy to say not barely, but trimphantly! We have been so blessed by this entire endevour and truly seen that God is good. When we lean into Him and trust Him, we can do anything!

We our finishing with a seimnar on prophetic literature. We are doing an overview of all the prophets and studying two a bit more indepth - Daniel and Micah. We've just begun the week but I think it will be really great. We have a Fijian woman speaking which is just awesome! She did a 9 month SBS a while ago here in Fiji - she's now in business but with us for this week to teach.

We had a wonderful weekend - David spoke in a local church we've been going to called All Nations. The pastor there is just a solid man of God named Pastor Jacob. He is very knowledgable about the Bible but very humble and teachable. Dave spoke in church yesterday on influencing the 7 spheres of society - family, education, economy, government, media, arts & entertainment and religion. He said the church focuses so much on pulling people into religion but not going into the different spheres. We want to make everyone missionaries or pastors (this is especially true in Fiji) but what we really need is Godly men and woman in education, media, government etc. We need to preach the gospel but not just to pull people into the church but to influence the world. The Pastor was blown away and said in his 12 years of pastoring he's never heard anyone say that. He asked David and I to come to the church next Saturday and he is gathering all the key pastors and elders in the area so Dave can speak the same message to all of them! We are so excited for this opprotunity. :) God has a lot for the church in Fiji and we're excited to see what He is going to do. What a privilage to be a small part of it!

  • And she's back...

Wow...it has been a ridiculously long time since I've done anything on Xanga. So long in fact that I'm not sure if any of you even check my page anymore.

But, if any of you do still indeed read this, then kudos to you for sticking with me and this is for you....

Dave and I arrived in Fiji in the beginning of March and April 7 began the Bible Core Course. A three month Bible school that focuses on teaching the students the Inductive method, teaching them to learn and study the Bible for themselves. We are now heading into week 10 of the school and it's been an amazing journey.

We have 7 students from 3 nations - 5 Fijians, 1 Korean and 1 Indian. All of them with a heart for long term missions! One couple is wanting to do another school - the school of Islamic studies and then head to Egypt. One student just following this course is going to Lebanon. And one more has plans to do a leadership training school and then head back to his home in Calcutta, India to do church planting and children's ministry. It's so exciting to see this small little crew that will multiply and impact the nations.

We began the school with an overview of the Old Testament, followed by an overview of the New Testament. From there we spent 3 weeks teaching the Inductive method and going through the books of Philemon and Titus. The rest of the school has been studying a book a week. The students have been learning and growing and overall just loving the course. We get feedback all the time of how much this school has impacted them and changed them.

Dave and I personally have been doing well. We've had our frustrated moments, our tired moments and our "ready to go home" moments but we've truly seen the grace of God and have in really wonderful ways received his refreshment in our lives. Half way through the school was when I really hit my slump but now I feel like a runner in a race whose received his second wind. I feel revived and ready to finish this thing well. Only 4 more weeks before we head back to Honolulu.

Hope this was a sufficient update that someone out there enjoyed.
    ...more to come.

  • The Burr's are BACK!

Hey guys...we are finally back in the lovely US of A after and amazing trip to Fiji and the Cook Islands. So much happened. I had you mostly updated on IWT...we heard so many encouraging reports as the tour moved on around Fiji. God moved - people got healed, demons got cast out and 170,000 people got saved through the whole 6 week tour. A couple cool testimonies...
*A Hindu priest on an outer island got saved
*One of the teams preached the gospel in a Hindu school and 300 kids got saved. That night two of the kids that got saved brought their dads to the show and they got saved. One of the fathers was completely blind in one eye and partially blind in the other. The partially blind eye was healed and the fully blind eye got 50% sight back!
*A 14 year old girl - deaf from birth - was able to hear again
...the lame walked, the blind saw and the ears of the deaf were opened. GOD IS AWESOME!

After IWT was finished Dave taught a week in a School of Missions - he taught on the Fear of the Lord. It was so impactful for the students - they were still talking about it when we came back through Fiji two weeks later! It was also really good for David and I to "re-hear" that topic. God really spoke to both of us through that week. I had some cool ministry times with the students. There was one girl in particular that I really had a heart for - really wanted to see God move in her life and bring breakthrough. One of our final nights in Fiji before we left for the Cook islands I got to pray with her. It was one of the most powerful prayer times I've had in awhile - just so felt the presence of God as I prayed, after awhile didn't even know all that I was saying but I knew it was from God.

Here are some pictures from the Cook Islands...

It was an incredible two weeks of teaching. David was anointed - he spoke on Hearing the Voice of God and Relinquishing Your Rights. I think we needed to hear it just as much as everyone. It was so good! The students really responded. The school consisted of two guys staff and three girl students (2 Americans and one German.) I got the amazing privlage of running small groups for two weeks - almost every afternoon. God used that so much in my life and in theirs. He really redeemed my idea of small group and they drew so much from that. The one girl kept saying how much they had needed what David and I brought to the table. It was the best time of ministry together as a team we've had so far. Just seeing eachother operate in our giftings - working those together. By the end of the time we were so close - the whole school cried when we left.

We were so blessed by the whole trip! Thanks to everyone who was apart of it through prayer and financial support - we are SO grateful and truly couldn't do this without any of you. We love you all so much! Be Blessed! Know that every life we touched and got to see God move in in Fiji were touched by you in the way you contributed in sending us to Fiji.

    Love, David & Erin

  • Just a quick one...

I don't have much time but I'll fill y'all in fast!
Dave and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary last week and it was wonderful! We got to spend a night at a hotel - very relaxing and the first really good nights sleep we've had in awhile. :) I didn't get woken up by a cow, rooster, dog or weed wacker. It was great! :) Can't believe it's been a year - it's been awesome!

Dave started his teaching week on Monday. He's teaching on the Fear of the Lord. It's been so good so far! I think we've all learned a lot this week. I think it was a great way to start off the school and I know God has a lot more for this school and these students. Its been really good to see how we work together as well. He does most of the teaching but allows me to give my input and so we've had some cool times of him teaching, me sharing and then getting to minister and pray with the students.

We head to  the Cook Islands on Saturday for two more weeks of teaching. Keep us in your prayers. Thanks you guys!

    Erin
