Reunion details listed below, under August 22 post.  Also, the price has been lowered to $40, and the deadline extended to September 30.  Please, everybody make a committment to come!  Reunions don't happen often.  It'd be great to see everyone again.  If you plan on coming, please send us the money by the deadline, or contact us to let us know you intend on coming.  This way, we can know how many people to expect!!

Dear Class of 1998,

I am glad to see there has been such a positive response to news of the reunion!  Many people have expressed interest in coming.  However, despite the verbal commitments to come, many of you have not yet sent in your payments.  This poses a problem for us, the organizers, for a few reasons.  Let me explain why.  The first reason is that we need to be able to gauge how many people will be coming.  If we anticipate that 100 people will show up, we will order food and drink for 100.  But if 150 people show up, this will cause a shortage of food and drink for everyone, which is something nobody wants to happen.  The second and more important reason is that, in order to reserve a venue in Manhattan to host our event, we had to sign a contract for a minimum amount of people to attend.  At this point, according to the payments we have received, we are still under that amount.  As organizers, we are not willing to assume that enough people will show up at the door to break the minimum.  Doing so would be a big gamble on our part, which could potentially cause a great financial liability for us.  Therefore, there is a slight chance that the reunion will have to be cancelled if more people do not send in their money soon.

Some people have voiced reluctance to attend, due to the expensive price of $60 for entry.  Please note that because of the reasons listed above, we purposefully made it more expensive at the door, only to encourage early payments.   We never had intentions to overcharge anyone for admission.  We want it to be affordable, so everyone can come.  We DO NOT want you to pay $60.  You can avoid having to do so, by sending us payment soon.

We understand that price has become a big issue.  The next deadline for payment as per the original pricing scheme is this Saturday, Sept 27, at $48.  However, since we are trying our hardest to eliminate price as an obstacle preventing people from attending, we will lower the price to $40, and extend the deadline to October 3rd.  After that, we have no choice but to charge $60 at the door. For all those who have already paid a price of admission over $40, you will be refunded the difference at the door.

When we first set out to plan this reunion back in March, we were so excited about the chance to see old faces again.  This would be our chance to catch up with old friends, after many years apart in college, work, etc.  I am sure many of you are interested in sharing this too.  Please make a commitment to come.

For those who have already sent in payments, thank you for your cooperation and timely response.  However, your job is not done!  Our current network is only so big and I suspect that there are many out there that still don’t know about the reunion.  Please tell your friends, and ask them to tell their friends.  Somehow, hopefully word of the reunion will spread to all 564 graduates of the class of 1998!

Sincerely,

The reunion committee

Dear fellow alumni,

We are writing to provide you all with information in response to concerns posted on Evite.

1.      The Bronx High School of Science does not provide any financial support for any reunions.  It only provides ONE first-class postage per alum and printing reimbursement (up to a given amount). All deposits and initial payments have been covered by us.  Like previous reunions, all remaining funds will be donated to the Bronx High School of Science.

2.      Venues in Manhattan offering 3 hours of open bar and appetizers are generally priced over $50.  With tax (8.625%) and gratuity (20%), the total price would be $64.31.  After calling and visiting many venues, we were fortunate enough to find a lounge offering a reasonably lower price.  Bronx Science does not have a fund for this, so there is no discount on the price set by the venue.  Each attendee is responsible for his/her own cost.

3.      Lastly, Bronx Science does not have a checking account for reunions, so all finances are managed by volunteers.  We have done research and found that a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) is required by law to establish an account by the name of "Bronx Science - Class of 1998".  Reunion coordinators from earlier years have also resorted to personal checking accounts to avoid complications and advised us to do the same.

If there are any questions or comments, please feel free to email us.

Thanks,
Vincent & Connie
