Today's Puritan Audio Devotional (T. Brooks) + Grace Gems: SAD BLOTS! (O. Winslow)

Today's Puritan Audio Devotional--

"Will he not stab it with a thousand wounds!"
 by Thomas Brooks (3 minutes)

 ~  ~  ~  ~  ~

Sad Blots!

(by
Octavius Winslow, "None Like Christ" 1866)

How much is true religion shorn of its strength
by the lack of more spiritual-mindedness in its
professors! The worldly amusements to which
many addict themselves . . .
  the opera,
  the card-playing,
  the ball,
  the gay party,
  the novel-reading,
  the luxurious living,
  the extravagant customs,
in which multitudes of religious professors indulge,
are sad blots upon their avowed Christianity, and
great hindrances to the advancement of religion in
their own souls and in the world.

Oh! that with us vital religion--the pure, simple,
self-denying, unearthly religion of Christ--might
be paramount; its holy influence permeating our
whole being, and giving form and tint and direction
to all our engagements and conduct.

PRAYING +

+

"Restore unto me

the joy of thy salvation;

and uphold me

with thy free spirit."

Psalm 51:12 KJV

+

"Hear, O LORD

and have mercy upon me:

LORD, be thou my helper"

Psalm 30:10 KJV

+

"...The things which are impossible with men

are possible

with God."

Luke 18:27 KJV

+

"And he [Jesus] said, Abba, Father,

all things are possible unto thee;

take away this cup from me:

nevertheless

not what I will,

but what thou wilt."

Mark 14:36 KJV

+

"If any of you lack wisdom,

let him ask of God,

that giveth to all men liberally,

and upbraideth not;

and it shall be given him.

But let him ask in faith,

nothing wavering...

Every good gift and every perfect gift

is from above,

and cometh down from the Father of lights,

with whom is no variableness,

neither shadow of turning."

James 1:5-6, 17 KJV

+

"Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us,

but unto thy name give glory,

for thy mercy,

and for thy truth's sake."

Psalm 115:1 KJV

+

"But he that entereth in by the door

is the shepherd of the sheep.

To him the porter openeth;

and the sheep hear his voice:

and he calleth his own sheep by name,

and leadeth them out.

And when he putteth forth his own sheep,

he goeth before them,

and the sheep follow him:

for they know his voice...

I [Jesus] am the door:

by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved,

and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:

I am come that they might have life,

and that they might have it more abundantly.

I am the good shepherd:

the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep."

John 10:2-4, 9-11 KJV

+

"Humble yourselves therefore

under the mighty hand of God,

that he may exalt you in due time:

Casting all your care upon him;

for he careth for you."

Thankful to God=To Him Be All Glory + Welcoming & Praying for Recent Visitors to ByGraceHisOwn Xanga

Although there have not been much activity here as in the past, sometimes I return back to re-read some of the journals that the Lord had graciously inspired and moved me to begin writing.  Doing so has been such a blessing to me again and a salve to my soul personally, and I am thankful to God for the ministry of His Spirit and Word during those cherished times, and as I am reminded of them today.  I was also very blessed to re-read some of the comments from guest visitors, and to also see that some other guest visitors have even recently stopped by here to browse or read (and had left some anonymous "footprints").

If, through this Xanga journal, the Lord has graciously used anything here for His good and godly purposes to bless others, and to call upon His people to pray without ceasing and to pray fervently:

To God be all the glory, and may He alone be praised.

I am thankful to the Lord for all His Work, and am welcoming and praying for each precious one who providentially stops by to read.  May God bless each guest visitor to ByGraceHisOwn's Xanga, including those in the past few days from:

Ukraine

France

Illinois

May you all find something here encouraging, especially through God's Word, and may it be a means of blessing, comfort, and sanctification to your own never-dying soul, and to point and draw you mercifully to Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

__________

"Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.

All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.

I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture......................

I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep......................

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.

I and my Father are one."

+ John 10:7-9; 14-15; 27-30 KJV
