Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum Part 3

This is the last installment from my trip to the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum.

Waiting on the train platform were the baggage carts with baggage in one case.

I actually have a suitcase similar to one of these.

This is the engine backing up to get the train cars.

The conductor was busily talking with the other train workers (all volunteers) preparing the train for departure

One of the things he had to do was release the breaks on the caboose.

One of the things we passed along the way was the

I plan to go back and visit the winery. I found out later the train would stop there to pick up and off load passengers.
I took this picture of the vineyard while the train was picking up some people.

We also passed the golf course. Everyone waved as we went by.

The most exciting adventure of the morning ride was a huge tree which had fallen across the tracks.

After lengthy discussions, they decided to back the train back to the station. I'd never ridden in a train being pushed by the engine before. The brakeman rode in the caboose. While we were stopped, I took this picture of some flowers growing by the side of the tracks.

When you first enter the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum they have setup a train station waiting area composed of items from closed train stations all over Alabama.

There is even an arrival/departure board

As one continues through the museum there are various items from the grand railroad past

I love this old typewriter

In the last room, they have included a collection of whistles, bells, hats, lamps, tools, and other train related items

They have a nice visitor's center and gift shop

In addition to the Calera & Shelby Railroad they have

a narrow gauge railroad.

was named for its builder and club president at the time. Clark and other volunteers laid out and constructed the train yard by had over a period of years.

Quite an extensive collection of rail stock is housed in the Clark Yard.
