  • umm, okay....

This new xanga thing is confusing....pretty sure this means Shrum will just be sticking to Facebook! not really sure how to change this stuff and don't have the time to figure it out! But while I'm at it, here are some lyrics to a great song - yes it's country - but it really pertains to me at the moment!

Some people care about what other people think
    Worry about what they say
    Let a little gossip
Coming from a loose lip ruin a perfect day
Sayin', blah, blah, blah, just a jacking their jaws
Got a let it roll off-a my back
I don't give a dern what other people think
What do ya think about that

Don't let what other people say get you down, you know in your heart what is true and your true friends do as well. People will talk, start rumors, and lie - that's life - especially at Judson!

Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts. – 2 Timothy 2:22

Choose your friends wisely! And never forget that God is with you always!! He is your truest friend!

  • So, as you've probably figured out, I don't do to good of a job at keeping things like Xanga or Facebook updated during the summer or even with keeping in close touch with friends. These things are usual summer occurences for me, summer means spending lots of time with family, vacationing, and some working. But this summer, well the past 2 and 1/2 weeks, have been completely devastating. My grandma had been battling cancer, again, for a year and a half this time, and on May 28th she passed away. I miss her everyday, but I wouldn't wish her back. She was in so much pain, and it was such a struggle every day for her. This loss has really made me realize how important all the time is with my family, and especially my other grandparents who are also not in good health. I wish this was something I'd never have to go through again, but that's life. So I just wanted to give an update on my summer and apoligize for my extreme lack of socialization and the few birthdays I missed and calls and messages I haven't returned. I'm slowly working on getting back into things. I hope you understand that for me life stopped for two weeks, the problem was time didn't.

  • More than a game, More than a rivalry

So, I was going to write about my weekend in sports - the usual - with a few races, the nba playoffs, and Cardinals games. But, today everything was put into perspective with the tragic death of Josh Hancock, a 29 year old middle reliever for the Cardinals.

It sometimes seems as if each game is a life or death matter, worrying about era's and batting averages, free agency and contracts, games against rivals, and curses. Then something like this, the reality of life hits. Something bigger than who your favorite team is or what part of the country you're from. Sports is just an escape from reality, entertianment. This doesn't merely put sports in perspective, but life. I challenge you to live each day to its fullest.  Don't worry over the circumstances of life (Phillippians 4). Rely on God and turn to Him to find joy, peace, and contentment.

a year in review?! well, not quite....

so, I'm sitting here in my room w/ only a jimmie johnson and jim edmonds picture left, my last night here. it's crazy how fast time flys! my amazing hallway is empty now, no decorations left, the curtains are down, the tv is gone, so i've been thinking about the fun times i've had in my first 2 years of college. amazing, fun, growth, difficulty, learning, loving, crying, laughing - that sums it up! i made some new friends this year, they're pretty cool! hehe and got closer w/ some old friends which was amazing too! and i think of all the ups and downs and some friendships that have sort of been lost.

i have learned so much this year and grown so much and it has been such a good experience, hard at times but i've gotten through it. only by the grace of God. i can't believe i have come this far. i remember when i moved in to ohio august fresh. year, i was scared to death and wanted to go home after the first day. i had a pretty cool r.a. that helped get me through it tho, and we even became decent friends (haahaa) :)

sooo, back to this year....things are different now, different than they were last semester, different than they were last month even. change happens, life keeps going, friendships change. unfortunately for me, i don't deal well with change! i've gotten alot of experience with it though, so i'd like to think i'm getting better w/ the adjustments! but, i have learned this - people will change and circumstances will change, the way you feel towards someone or something will change BUT God never changes, He is always there, through all of the changes. to fully rely on Him through all of it is what gets me through.  so, that is all for now, later installments to come with this new found free time!  I'm a junior now!!! yay!
