Undone.

And you said "I know that this will hurt
but if I don't break your heart then things will just get worse
If the burden seems too much to bear,
Remember,
the end will justify the pain it took to get us there."

Hello again!

I can't believe it's been so long since I last posted--life seems to come at me so fast these days I barely have time to journal and blog it all. One moment we're celebrating Chris' birthday in January, the next thing I know it's already March! Only 6 more weeks of school??  I'm afraid to blink for fear of seeing 2009 on my calendar when I open my eyes! It also seems like as time goes by faster, the days get shorter and I only get busier. (Does anyone else feel like this?) This past week I had tests in 4 out of my 5 classes--I was so tense I barely felt like I could breathe. And JM's schedule was even worst than mine! He was out traveling for work from Monday to Thursday--(pulling late nights, early mornings, and even foregoing the comforts of home and sleeping in hotels when necessary)--what a trooper! He was my motivation to stay dedicated that week (and all the time, really!). Needless to say we were both happy to see the week finally come to an end. Now it's ime for a little R&R

The first step to un-winding after a week of not breathing? Escaping  away for a weekend! As soon as my last test was over the family piled into the car and drove off--leaving worries and everything else behind us--to high-tail our way to Asheville, NC. We stayed at the house of our long-time family friends: The Fines. While we were up there we laughed, remenisced and took in as much of the peaceful, mountain scenery as we possibly could. As much of a city girl as I've been raised to be, It's wonderful to exchange the busyness of Atlanta for the serenity of the wilderness every once in awhile. The drive up was particularly peaceful. Not only because it was my first sense of relief after the stressful week, but also because I see God ubiquitously in nature. (Mainly because His fingerprints are on everything, if you take the time to look!) It's a refreshinging reminder to know that even when I feel completely helpless, He is always present and in control. He's been reassuring so much in my life lately. I am so thankful to serve a God who is not only ever caring, but ever faithful as well!

Speaking of Nature, tornadoes much? Georgia's gotten well over her share of damage over the past month. (Downtown Atlanta was thrashed!) I'm not much for storms (at all). My worst nightmare is a tree falling ontop of our house as we sleep. I pray every night that God would protect our house from falling trees...

Last, but not least, on my list of updates: my hair is finally dark again! Seeing as I've never really been big--or good--with change, I had been seriously contemplating dye-ing my hair dark for awhile now. I finally worked up the courage to go have it done a few weeks ago. I'll admit that at first sight I was shocked! It's been at least 2 years since my hair has been purely one color, (and a dark one at that!) For the first few days I absolutely hated it. It's definitely taken some time, but now I think that I'm finally beginning to get used to it. Who would have thought I would have so much trouble growing accustomed to my natural haircolor?? I'm also in the process of growing my hair back out again. It's been shorter for some time (mainly because I hate my hair being in the "in-between" stages and I'm too lazy to wait for it to get longer!) But I've been really good about resisting urges to get it cut! Hooray!

Memory lane..

Being an avid music listener with an eclective and ambivalent taste in music I'll usually leave my iPod on shuffle and leave it to play whatever it feels in the background as I'm working. This morning while doing some early writing for a human development class I was taken aback (and almost startled) when I heard Michael Buble's familiar voice flow through the speakers. My reason for being startled had nothing to do with any of the words of the words he was singing, but more with the familiarity of the melody. Buble was virtually all I listened to while I was living up in DC, but when I moved back to Georgia I somewhat forgot he existed. Hearing the familiar notes and harmonies took me back up North. I stopped and closed my eyes, and for a single minute, I was driving home down a well-lit highway late at night from watching movies with Esther and Adam. I was passing the Washington and Lincoln monuments, lighting the night with all their glory. It was like unexpectedly meeting an old friend whom you haven't seen or talked to in years. On one hand I was glad to be reminded of such wonderful memories, yet at the same time it made me realize how much I miss being in D.C. It seems like my time there went by so fast--not that I didn't love every minute, but I had forgotten just how much I really enjoyed being there. They say you don't reralize how much you miss something until it's gone, and Michael Buble helped me to realize how much I really do miss my days up North.

Speaking of the North: Georgia has certainly been getting her fair share of northern weather! It's snowed two days so far, which means Georgia blizzard of 2008 is in full-swing! Old and young alike have been frolicking, building, throwing and freezing in the glorious blanket of white that has covered every inch of our yards! Who cares that all the snow came post-Christmas?? It's much better late than never!

I also managed to squeeze in the belated watchings of: American Gangster, Ratatouille and Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium! (Finally!) American Gangster and Ratatouille lived up to every expectation. From the beautifully done Parisian scenery and adorable characters of Ratatouille, to the award winning cast ((Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Cuba Gooding, Jr., and T.I--just to name a few!) and heartstopping action of American Gangster there was not one point in which I was disappointed! In the end it was Mr. Magorium's that I was the most surprised with. Despite the unpromising reviews I found it to be so much more insightful than I had anticipated. The storyline is about a girl named Mahoney (Natalie Portman) who is left the magical store by her quirky employer Mr. Edward Magorium (Dustin Hoffman). An unwillingness to let her beloved friend/boss go she tries her hardest to show him that he has a life to live, in turn he shows her that his life has been full, and it's now time for her to start living hers. I will admit that the humor is quirky and child-like at times, but if you're a fan of heartfelt story lines and simple pleasures this movie is definitely for you!

Wow, is it already 1:00 in the morning?? I should probably get some sleep!

I randomly stumbled on this video while looking for something on the internet. I had forgotten how long it's been since I had originally seen it, and how much it truly touched me. (Even now I cry watching it.) The miracle of life is such a precious gift--do we really have the right to take it away when we decide it is no longer convenient? I understand that terrible things happen to people, but in the end can we really justify taking a human life into our own hands? Do we decide which children are to be given the chance at life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? This is such a sensitive topic for so many women, yet I think Nick Cannon does a wonderful job presenting a plea on behalf of those who don't have the means or opportunity to speak for themselves.

Go Nick Cannon!

Welcoming a new year!

My first entry in 2008! How exciting! (Though its still somewhat bittersweet.) 2007 has been a great year--one of the better, in my opinion--yet as sad as I am to see it pass I'm looking forward anxiously to what lies in store for this next year! Though it does seem like the season passed too quickly. Starting back at work today left my body questioning if the Holidays were really over. It seems like only yesterday when I was joyously celebrating the completion of finals and counting down the days til Christmas! Now classes start all over again on Monday! I keep scratching my head trying to figure out where time has run away to...come back Holiday season

Okay, enough whining! Despite my rants of complaint, I really have enjoyed this winter break! Not only have I been able to spend time with so many old and new faces, but in between gatherings and parties with beloved friends and [surrogate] family I've also managed to:

  1. Catch up on my journaling (I've been such a slacker lately--it's shameful!),
  2. Do some painting,
  3. Read! (Thanks to JC!),
  4. Re-watch seasons 1 & 2 of 24,
  5. And even spend a day deerhunting out in the southern woods of Georgia!

When you look at it, I really can't complain at all. This time has been so refreshing! The only downside would be not being able to spend time with all our cousins and extended family in California and the Philippines. Remeniscing New Years and Christmas alone is definitely no fun--but it sure makes me smile to think they'll all be here in July! Family reunion 2008 ATL-style! (I can hardly wait!!)
