50mm 1.8 fixed. for non-events this’ll probably be my main. for events, probably the tamron. last night there was a nicely lit moon but with lots of fast moving clouds. so it was a challenge getting a clear shot but one of em turned out not bad:

earlier in the day, i met this nomad named John Hawks. He was looking for a woman named Mickey Peterson and he traveled down from Sacramento, trying to eventually make it to LA. i got him some food from 7-11 and asked if i could take a photo.

| you and your stupid hummer.
This entry was originally published at calchan.com

there’s nothing quite like watching a hummer pull out of a gas station rated at $4.80 a gallon. why are you still driving a hummer?? nobody cares that you have the money to pay for gas- everyone thinks you’re an a-hole for throwing more of that money into oil tycoon pockets.
a good idea would be to round up all the hummers in the world, take their wheels off, and use them to house the homeless.

“your 28-300 is probably a 4 or a 5?” -Tim
it’s a 3.5- i got a good deal off craigslist for $280. i think craigs is my main source now for looking up lenses. every now and then you might find a steal. it’s rare to find that f/1.8 on craigs though- i think cuz retail is so cheap everyone keeps theirs.

Adj’s lucky shot. he got another lucky shot later on that night too. a camera in his hands turns into a magic devil box.

| photo frenzy.

(evil eye)
i wanted a zoom lens, so i got a 75-300mm. then i got a 28-300mm. then i got a polarizer. it’s like an addiction that you’re somehow convinced is good for you. i’m gonna stop here for a while. i was gonna get a 1.4 or a 1.8 fixed, but i think i should take a breath first.
my dad has this ancient manual flash that’s pretty fun to use. the Sunpak 433d:

it’s got a multi-directional swivel head and an extendable diffuser with a deflector. i looked it up to check it’s value and apparently they don’t make them anymore. but it’s $50 bucks on ebay. i thought it’d be more, with its functionality and numerous manual and auto settings. welp if you’re looking for a cheap flash to mess with, look this up on ebay- it’s pretty fun.

| why won’t canon leave me alone.

after about a few months with the beloved SD750:

i gradually found the picture quality to be disheartening. especially after the retreat when you’re snapping photos alongside two SLR’s x_x.
the search for shallow depth and noiseless iso has led me to upgrade:

sigh. thought i’d never join the DSLR world- even at entry level. but being some kind of an artist- its probably inevitable to desire more control over images.
i have no doubt i’ll probably get better lenses and upgrade the body next year x_x.
