    Good Books and Bad Books

I enjoy those "Life comes at you fast commercials". Lots of truth in that phrase, yes indeed. As you can guess, this phrase recently became very real in my waking life.

I hope to become a person with convictions. Of course I already have some, but in a lot of cases I simply have assumptions. All of this to say, when it comes to ideas such as the existence of God, I want to be "...prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks [me] for a reason for the hope that is in [me]..." 1 Peter 3:15

My co-worker doesn't believe that God exists. I found that out while I was purchasing the book: The Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism. He happened to be nearby and said he was reading a book of the opposite idea by a guy named Christopher Hitchens. "That's interesting." I communicated. "I'll have to look him up." The conversation was friendly and non-combative, but at the same time, I was glad that I was actually at that moment arming myself with a book just for such a topic. I’ve been reading that book, and it is very helpful. It reminds me of Mere Christianity, but there are a lot of modern things going on that the author refers to, and that is nice. It was helpful especially when I found out later that one of the things going on today is the atheist Christopher Hitchens, author of the book: God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything. I was encouraged to find a part in Tim Keller’s book ( Reason for God)where he actually explains one of Hitchen’s arguments against God, and then addresses it. How kind of God to direct my attention to that particular book, eh?

The moral of the story is that I hope to quote or paraphrase Keller sometimes soon, and that I was excited when I heard about the debate going on between Douglas Wilson and our friend Christopher Hitchens. Apparently this is going to be made into a book titled: Is Christianity Good for the World?  Exciting stuff. In fact, I just stumbled upon this  and got even more excited. I’m praying that this book and all the stuff I found about God’s existence sticks in my little head. Check it out if you are interested.

    Lists

I have many little loves. For example: I love making lists. Camping lists, grocery lists, honey-do lists (haha, someday maybe), book lists, craft lists....Maybe its just the planning part of it all....maybe I like using the easy "...." ending :)

    So many everythings!

Due to a wonderful orchestration of circumstances, I Jess, do not go back to work until Monday. MONDAY! I've been off since yesterday, and I really, really, really, really, really (I did not copy and paste. I really typed each "really"), really enjoy having so much time off.

It seems that most times, I feel the most interested in the world around me when I am in the middle of a math assignment, furthermore, I get so tired from the brainwork that I forget about the world when I am done. I feel like this Summer, and this break in particular, have been good times in which I can explore the world. Understand that at this point I am simply an armchair explorer, but an explorer none the less ;)

    Bonnie (and Xanga land),

    I like The Chosen :)

I enjoyed this quote: ,"Tea is a blessing," he said smiling. "Especially to a schoolteacher who must always give long answers to short questions."

Hahaha. It's pretty irrelevant to the story, but it's just one of many beatiful details in it. I can't wait to finish it and discuss it with you, because, as you said Bonnie, it is a story that begs discussion. I'm not even finished and I know that. It's one of those "thinker" stories.

Speaking of tea. It is my new favorite. However, I can't really bear to drink straight tea. I like Chai and Peppermint, and a few fruity flavors, but nothing too crazy (like black tea or earl grey). For me its gotta have a few added flavors, a few kicks. Sara E. knows. You should get a Xanga, Sara :)

Thats all for now. More ideas later.
