| "god" and languageMost people were raised in a setting where god was discussed. In this type of setting, the existence of god is taken as a given. If one simply grows and develops, with his parent(s) mentioning “god”, they will come to accept god in exactly the context which they are taught it. For example, if ones parent(s) mentions things such as “god will look out for you” or “god is in control”, a child will come to perceive god as a protecting, altruistic force. If ones parent(s) say of god: “these people have to get right with god”, or “god will send that man to hell” then god is now cast as a punishing, judging force. However, the types of gods do not end there. There are a multiplicity of different gods for different people. Some parent(s) only mention of god is “goddamn it!”, a phrase of frustration when things do not go our way, presumably because of god! And how is a child to know for themself? Many people believe that god is an intuitive idea. That it is to say: an idea that children already have. Maybe we teach them his name, but of course a child, in all their purity and grace, knows god exists! But the truth is even simpler. A child knows nothing. All they knows is what they have learned, through being taught or natural inquisitiveness. Do you believe that a child, left to their own devices, would conjecture the existence of god? Unfortunately, almost no children are left to their own devices, so we cannot know. One may argue that the idea of god originated at some time, and this is true; but now it is simply passed on through language. Even if a child is not directly taught “god is _____”, they pick up on what their parents say, as mentioned in the previous paragraph. This forms their perception of god, before they are developed enough to doubt it. Although this would be considered child abuse, I propose this: while your child is developing language skills, attribute everything to separate, sometimes conflicting gods. When you get in a car accident, exclaim “DAMN TRAFFIC GOD!”... when your front lawn starts to grow in spring, thank the lawn god. I would be very surprised to find out that your child does not grow into a 21st century polytheist. You say, that would be cruel, to mislead a child into believing in silly things just to prove their gullibility. I say to you, it is no less cruel to insist on one gods existence to a child. I have always been an atheist. I grew and developed with my parents making similar references to god, but I never took the idea of god seriously, and still don’t. I thought it was just an expression. Is not an “act of god” an “act of nature”? If a possibility is “god willing” is it not “circumstance permitting”? Is not “god help me” just “anyone help me”? In all common phrases of which god is a part, “god” is really a catch-all phrase for various things, but mostly what we can’t control or what we don’t know. For those who do believe: how much of your belief may have been started from just hearing and using the word in your developmental stages?

| "If god really existed, it would be neccesary to abolish him."That is a quote from Mikhail Bakunin, a reversal of Voltaires famous quote 'If god didn't exist, it would be neccesary to invent him'(paraphrased).
I have always been an atheist, and at first I did not want to make a big deal of it. I said I was "non-religious" as a child just so I didn't have to discuss god's (non) existence with people. But this recent rise in extreme religiosity, from evangelical christians and jihadist muslims, as well as a recent rise in the examination of atheism, has made me do alot of thinking that I feel I should share with strangers.
The purpose of this blog is to enlighten those who are curious and argue with those who disagree. Most people are simply curious, which is why I want to recieve questions from you, strangers, that I may answer. I want to keep this a mostly peaceful place. If you wish to disagree, you may do so, but I do not guarantee I will start a huge debate with you, esspecially if I have already said my piece.
I will have posts about atheism every few days, and whenever I have a few, I will answer your questions. So don't feel shy to send me messages to ask me some.
