Instant Messenger.  What do you think of it?

Instant Messenger has been my friend the last few years.  I can remember when I first getting on the internet and was really big into Yahoo Messenger and MSN Messenger.  As time has evolved, I have found my preference to be AIM.  I like the newest version that allows me to be invisible so that I can still work on homework or do whatever and not be bothered by everyone.

I can see why many people feel that IM is impersonal, but I have found it is my preference for many different reasons.  I like being able to know when someone is online, when they are available to talk with, and when they are writing me a message.  I like being able to be invisible and I like being able to receive the answers to questions I may have within minutes.

I have a small list of contacts (20-30) and only talk to 5-10 of those people on a regular basis.  Quite often, my fiance will be online and I'll send him a quick message from across the house.  When I'm in the middle of homework - that's the easiest way to do it!

Instant messenger has become a convenience item for me - I absolutely love it.  What's your take on it?

Hello again!

I've received several emails lately at home and at work warning me of new viruses that are potentially harmful and therefore, it's my topic of the day.

I have been pretty fortunate and only have had a limited number of viruses and spyware on my computers.  I have been very careful to try and keep them updated with the current softwares available.  But, what amazes me is that someone can create something so deadly and not get caught.  I haven't ever seen numbers as to how many people actually get caught that create and spread viruses, but I do know that over the past year there have been a few people that have been caught.  Now this may be stereotypical - but most of them have been young "nerdy" teenagers.  HOW IN THE WORLD does someone at the age of 15 create a virus that could possibly wipe out hundreds of computers?  Where do they learn these things?  I could go off on a tangent and talk about how children are being raised - but that would be completely off topic.

I must admit, I get very scared because I do alot of things on my computer.  In fact, my labtop is my life.  I do my banking online, pay bills online, shop online, and take courses online.  If I were to lose this puppy - I would be lost!

It just mesmerizes me that someone could create something so horrible.  Those of you who may read this that aren't in my DigiComm course - if you don't have your computer updated with anti-virus software and spyware software - call me, see me, email me, IM me - SOMETHING.  I'll help you out!

I haven't posted in a long long time, but I figured that since I had a blog assignment due for my DigiComm course, this was the perfect opportunity.

In class we've talked about a wide variety of Digital topics, there's one that has been on my mind lately.  Email.  As many of you know, I am getting married in September of this year in Las Vegas.  Our reception, however, is here in Columbia.  I contacted a certain business interested in some of the pricing that they offer and specified that I preferred to be contacted via email because of my various work and school schedules.  I received an email from the gentleman, followed up by about 50 phone calls the past few weeks.  Did he forget the part about being contacted through email?

I prefer email as a method of contact for many reasons.  I work all day long and spend all day on the phone, the last thing I want to do in my "free" time is talk on the phone.  Email, for this purpose, is so easy.  I can't type my thoughts and what I am interested in in about two lines and hit send!  I can do this laying in bed at 5 in the morning or butt naked watching tv if I prefer (ok, not really!!).

I guess the thought that I have been wondering is, generations have change dramatically since I've grown up, what's going to happen to the generations to come?  Will they have phones?  Will everything be done electronically?  Or will people find that email is too impersonal for them and give it up completely?

Hmm..a thought to ponder for the night...

Good night all!
