  • Ramblings

Well, plop. I was hoping to use Xanga as a place to store files for others to download and read. Xanga, however, does not have this option.

Then, I thought, "Okay, I'll use the Private feature on the Weblog entries and people that I trust will be on a list that can read those Weblog entries and comment on my stories."  I even got excited to see that I could invite people by using their e-mails... Well, that thought immediately got dashed as I did more research, because I soon found out that you have to be a member of Xanga to be able to be friended to a private list.  Another option dashed to smithereens.

So, I need to rethink this.

I want to be able to make some of the stuff that I've written easily accessible to people that I trust (e.g., friends & classmates in the creative writing courses that I've taken/take).  Some of these people are actually interested in reading my stuff--or so they say--but I feel... mixed about handing over my (very) rough drafts.  Even for the creative writing courses, I at least polish the excerpts or small pieces that I turn in; it is definitely not the raw draft of the story (which, as it is, my SO enjoyed Space Pirates, lots! yay!).  I feel that I am putting an obligation on a person to read my story when in fact I'd rather feel that they want to read it rather something that sounds like, "Let's do lunch!"  So, if I had a place where they could download the story and read it, and comment if they want to, then that would be übercool.

So, I just might let this be a place that I write short stories and flash fiction. That way, if anybody wants to read it, they can; if they want to comment, they can.  Though, I think you have to be a Xanga member to comment.

On a different track, I'm doing a NaNoWriMo (unofficially, cuz as all WriMos know, NaNo occurs in November...) this month.  Summer is when I have time to write as all the other months I'm the happy student.  The deal is, I finish Space Pirates by the end of this month, and my SO gets me a recliner for my computer.  As it is, I have squandered 10 days!  I'm going to have to find out if the SO expects it to be ready for submission, or if it can be a draft form to get massaged into submission... if he wants it ready for submission, then I will work with what I have, however, if he will allow it to be a rough draft, then I'll be able to finish two books, as I have planned to keep the original Space Pirates as the first book, and the next part the sequel.  Yes, I've always intended Space Pirates to be a series.

But I really want that recliner.  This office chair is killing me.  I used to have a recliner (hand-me-down kind) and it finally got to the point that we wondered when it would collapse.  We threw it out for bulk pick-up, and somebody other than the city picked it up.  Not that I'm complaining, if somebody is able to get joy out of it, all power to him/her!  At least it stayed out of the municipal growing trash mountain for a little bit.

I'm going to use the Pulse feature of Xanga to record my word count on stories that I write, that seems to be a pretty good place to keep a record of the novels in progress.

If you haven't figured it out yet, this is my writing blog, and will feature short stories and flash fiction as well as my rambling thoughts, like this one.  I'll also talk about NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and Script Frenzy. This blog will be primarily focused on writing and editing.  I might even talk about books about writing and editing.  I doubt that I will feature any of my longer stuff, only because this doesn't lend well to how I write my novel length writings.  At least with short stories and flash fiction, I'll have completed stories that each can be read in one sitting.  How cool is that?
