  • Radiance

So it looks like everyone is trying their hands at macro photography these days-- some with very good or simply exceptional results, and others with... not so good results (sorry, not mentioning names for this one).

What we, as hobby (non-professional) photographers, have to keep in mind is how interesting or visually appealing a subject is. Just because you can zoom in to see all of its details, it doesn't make it a good picture unless there is something in the details that is worth seeing.

(For reference, the flower was about the size of a quarter.)

Cliché? Yes, but at least it's a pretty shot and an interesting subject, heh.

  • Cheating at Photography - Part I

What do you do when you go out shooting with a big group of photographers and they're all a lot more skilled at photography than you are?

YOU CHEAT and take pics of a more beautiful subject! (:

Note: Pics were all taken with my Canon 20D and either my Canon 70-200L or my Canon 35mm prime.

Here are some other pictures of some really, really ridiculously good looking guy that I found on my buddie Mark's xanga:

You should go visit his site... He has amazing pics from the event!

  • Mizpah Coin...

Sometimes the most unexpected things come with life's greatest joys. <3

This lovely necklace was given to me by my super thoughtful girlfriend Michelle on Thursday, while I was preparing for death... err um... I mean MCATs.

So Shar and I went to Washington DC yesterday, and we got a little rough with some random people in a massive pillow fight in Dupont Circle.

  • Traumatic Dunkin Donuts Experience...

So not one hour ago, I walked into my local Dunkin' Donuts and asked the man at the counter for a donut. He turned at me with a twinge of confusion in his eye, when he said to me, "I'm sorry sir. But, we have no more donuts."

I knew at that very moment that my world had collapsed right in front of me.

EDIT: Here's a pie for Pi day!

  • Baltimore Photo Hopping - Part I

Going out shooting with other people is always SO much fun. Yesterday, I went shooting with my friends Qiao, Chris (who happens to be Qiaos fiance), and Peter in the Baltimore Inner Harbor.

We also tried to go to the Bodies Exhibition, only to discover that they do not allow photography. DARN!

I saw a random couple dancing in the moonlight street. I just had to snap a shot. Grr. I wish I could dance.

  • A Song For Mama - early preview version...

So I rarely post songs on here, but I'm going to post one today. Anyway, I'm working on a lil' song for my mom... since she's awesome like that.

Anyway, this is just a tiny little snippet, and I havent added the background track yet. It's more to just see how well some of the runs, the phrasing and my tone work. If you guys like the runs and phrasing, I will go ahead and redo it with the background track for Mother's Day, heh.

Anyway, here goes: Will Verduzco - A Song For Mama (Boyz II Men Cover)

Or, if that link doesnt work, here's a lower quality streaming version:

    What do you guys think?

PS. It's pretty raw. It's only my third take trying it this way...

Edit: I don't like the way I did the run at 20 secs. I usually do it much cleaner. I'll redo it when I have a few seconds later.

  • Curves

Just some pretty grasses I saw while walking around on Valentine's Day in Hamden. I believe I was on my way to establish a service project on behalf of my service frat.

  • Softness Below

    [Insert witty line here.]

Sorry, my mind is numb right now from so much work and other stuff going on in my life.

If you wanna hear something cool, though, check out THIS song by Gavin Degraw - Chariot. It's amazing.

Image taken while walking around the Johns Hopkins University Undergrad Campus. This shot was taken during that fateful trip to Chipotle that resulted in the most recent burst of posts on my xanga as well...

Thinking about Chipotle right now, though, is definitely the wrong move, as I did not have nearly enough time this morning to eat breakfast before heading in to lab. I am debating heating up some of my spaghetti (angel hair) and meatballs for an early brunch... I think I'm going to do that. People will look at me so weirdly if they see me eating lunch food at... 9 AM. Oh well.

EDIT: I chickened out. I didn't have the guts to be eating my oh-so-tasty, but sadly also smelly, angel hair pasta. I just bought some oatmeal instead.

  • Erosion of the Past

Image taken in front of a now-closed coffee-shop / restaurant around the Johns Hopkins University campus.

I remember going to this place quite a few times during my JHU Undergraduate career. It was the backdrop for a lot of big events... and now it's closed. This is reminiscent of how I felt when my high school, back in San Diego, was closed and incorporated with a different school across the county. I felt almost as if a piece of my past had been taken away from me. I will never be able to take my future wife and kids to visit and tour some areas that meant a lot to me.

The past, as Susan so eloquently put it, becomes just a row of pawns instantly cleared out like it never existed.

What parts of your past have been eroded?

  • Christmas in July...

OK. Not July... Actually more like late February, but it DID sound better saying that.

It must be a line from a movie, or something, no? I swear that I've heard that phrase before.

Anyway, I happened to spy these lights near the end of February. I thought they looked at least marginally cool / interesting.

  • Looking Up...

Isn't it time that you started looking up in your life? You might find something you like... like interesting looking lights in a Chipotle fast food restaurant. (mmmmm. Chipotle. I could SURE go for one or two of those right now.) Just make sure you don't stare too long, as I ran into a table shortly after taking this shot, haha.

What do you look up to or aspire to in your life?

  • Looking Closer...

It's pretty easy to miss what truly matters in life when looking at things in the distance...
Sometimes you just have to stop looking and be grateful for what is right in front of you.

Despite the struggles that consume my life at the moment (hardcore studying for MCATs in two months, worrying about the med school application, and other group project commitments that I have made), I should be very grateful that I have an amazing family and excellent friends.

What are you thankful for in your life?
