Romans 6:1,2What shall we say then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?

Well, it seems no one has found my page yet.. I'm still waiting for the first person to meet me here. We are still on the Delirious - World Service tour... thus I placed their album on this post. I'm excited about the Micheal W. Smith tour that will come soon. We just finished the ichthus festival in kentuckty. Hmm.... so maybe I'll just explain to everyone about how cool God is. He is so cool, he makes you want to shine on others, and spread is glowing light.

Songwriting is like trying to/listening to a conversation through the wall. It's like you're trying to make out one word and then you make out another word and you have to make sense of the sentence out of those couple of words. So you've surely got to be quite perceptive/quiet. Usually the melody comes a split second before the vowels and the sibilance. You kind of see them. Or feel them rather, like climbing down a ladder at night. You put your foot down and there's another rung. Well you put your mind down and there's another meaning and a sense of what it is. Then you put them all together. There's a trick to it like focusing your eyes. Like talking to someone, only you can't quite hear them, and you feel kind of stupid because they're so much more clever than you. Sometimes the ideas just hover and shimmer in the air so delicately, like a soap bubble and you dare not even look at it directly in case it burst. But you're familiar with the way of ideas and you let it shimmer looking away, thinking about something else. And on the slightest of breezes/breaths it floats down glistening all the way into the palm/most tender part of your outstretched heart/heart.

No way. is this really you? wow. awesome. im from hawaii. first to comment huh? well i just started my own xanga too, sorta. i've had it for a long time, but i haven't really posted ever. I've only seen you play once at dc/la in sacramento. it was the best experience of my life, though. I hope everything goes really well with the Delirious tour and the Michael W. Smith tour as well. i'm so glad for you and the band that you're all doing so well and sharing your love with everyone. even my parents love your band! i can't say much about songwriting lyrics-wise, but i do try to write my own songs with the guitar. anyway, just stopping by and leaving some props. take care, serve God, and i hope to see you again at dc/la 2006! God bless!

songwriting can be like that, but for me it just flows.  If I try to push/rush it, the song never comes out perfect.  However, when I allow them to come whenever God wants them to they are always steller.

Babbie Mason was my teacher this semester and while I don't think I learned much about the initial writing process, I was taught that it is good to always go back and edit a song to make sure the meter is perfect and to hone in on only one subject/point.  I realize now that sometimes songs can become difficult for the listener to grasp because while the writer is creating it his/her thoughts can begin to wander or he/she may be receiving the words incorrectly.

I think it might be good to realize that while God has given us a ministry that is initiated/led by Him, it is not wrong to try and better our technique and edit our lyrics after we've written them down.  Music by Christians has become "Christian Music" where the noun "Christian" is used as an adjective to describe the primary focus of "Music."  This is something my leadership professor really taught me.  At first I objected his claim because I despise it when Christians refuse to be labeled as Christian artists, but then it began to sink in.  We are Musical Christians.  Christians first, musicians second.  If we are going to attach a label as powerful and true as Christianity to what we do, we had better make sure our representation of Jesus Christ exceeds every standard made by secular artists.  The classical composers strived to be the best and allowed God to be seen without attaching a label, only a symbol to their sheets that meant "solely to the glory of God."  I need to strive for this, you need to strive for this, and every other Christian should strive for this excellence as well...no matter where their gifts may lay.

I saw you at Ichthus for the first time. Dude you have an awesome spiritual gift. And how awesome is it that you have a xanga? A whole group of us at the Baptist Student Union I'm involved with have xanga's, and now I'm happy to see that David Crowder does as well! Well, God is awesome, and its generally refreshing to hear someone talk about how that awesomeness surrounds us always, I mean sad lowley sinful us. His love is so completely unfathomable!

Crowder?  Awesome... Keep rockin for God, man... I know you get too many comments to ever even see this one, but still... I like that description of songwriting.  I always feel like what I write is such a bland description of what God actually put in my heart... like there must be another language that has the words to describe what God is and does.  Oh well.  Keep rockin, man.  And I love what you guys are doing with the old hymns... awesome!

Man, I couldn't have said it any better myself.  Songwriting is a truly delicate experience, especially when writing about God.  It has to be inspired by Him and given to you, because there's far too many things that can be said about Him to put into a single song, andyou want to put it all in there at once so the people listening to that one song can just know Him.  That doesn't work though.  Instead God gently gives a point to put into that song, just enough of it so people can get a taste of what he's about and then want to come running after Him in search of what they've tasted.

Keep bringing the crowds to Him, and thanks for helping me get that taste.

Rhonda
