| Real Big Tymer“Why do I do ALL the work, but get none of the benefits. I don’t get a raise, I don’t get a promotion. The only thing I get is a heart condition and a bad back!” Ever caught yourself having some of those thoughts of feeling under appreciated, or feeling at least that you aren’t getting what you deserved in return. Or ever caught yourself saying, “I’m too good for that.” Well because I’m writing it, you can pretty much guarantee that it’s a problem of mine. However, a couple scriptures opened my eyes. The first was Luke 17:10, “…when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.” Then in Luke 18:14, “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." So Jesus is telling us that one we should not expect reward at of what we do. We should do what we need to do, because it’s needs done. Second, don’t expect or think yourself great. Those that put themselves in that spotlight, usually end up making themselves look pretty silly. Instead take on the small stuff, for in the small stuff you will be great. | | |
| Befriending the friendlessSo often we think we need to forget about those that are not saved and make sure our entire friend base is Christians. However, if we are truly trying to be Christ-like this isn’t a good practice. Jesus was a friend of sinners, not because he also sinned, but because He realized that if we are going to save them, then you’re going to have to know them. In order to know them, you’re probably going to need to befriend them. In Luke 15 it says, “1 Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach. 2 This made the Pharisees and teachers of religious law complain that he was associating with such sinful people—even eating with them!” Later in the same chapter Jesus responds to these people by saying, “there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!” Who would you more like, the big wigs who can’t believe that Jesus is doing what He’s doing, or the Jesus who comes in contact as much as possible with the lost to save as many as possible. Remember Jesus befriended you before you came to Him. | | |
| Finding ImportanceEver find yourself looking for a ways to store of treasures of this world? Don’t let yourself be fooled, treasure isn’t always the amount of zero’s you have behind your balance in your bank account. Treasure’s can be possessions, and even our bodies. Living in this world it can be difficult to look at those around us and be satisfied managing the blessings God gives us. We not only want our blessings we also want our neighbors as well. So we seek it out in two ways. One we seek to destroy what our neighbor has, and then we try to hard to obtain what they have and as a result neglect what we already have. We see this evident in the influx of cosmetic surgeries, in the imbalance of work and family, and even in the rise of unproportionate debt/equity ratios of today’s modern family. We want what we can’t have so we over work and extend ourselves to get it. The result sadly enough are seeing families torn apart, our health is riddled, we are unable to pay our debts, and most importantly our relationship with God is nil. Ultimately in the end we are not taking anything with us to heaven, no matter how many hours of overtime we put in to get it. Seek out what’s truly important and try to manage with excellence what God gave you content with the blessings He has given us. Luke 12:21 | | |
| Feeling Distant? Why is it so hard sometimes to really feel God in your life? We read scriptures which tell us that we can’t escape His love. However, it seems all we see is other succeeding, while we plummet. We start to doubt our level of spiritual maturity and our commitment to God. Then I read Psalms 69 and saw that David was much like me. He had some of the same feelings I did. He felt desperate to find God, and he felt as if He was not able to find God no matter how loud he cried or how closely he looked. He felt like he was a stranger and different than those that He should be the closest to. However, in the end He knew that God would be His Superman and save Him in the nick of time. He can and will do the same in your life as well. I realize that sometimes God may seem distant. Remember, He loves you and when the time is right He will find you at your place of need and fill you back up again with His love. | | |
| A touch of His hand...Is there something in your life that you have done everything you can to try and fix, but it just seems hopeless? Many people have and are in your situation. They have tried everything in this world to try and fix things, but the problem is they forgot the most important thing. God! With God all things are possible. Without Him, nothing is possible. With just a simple touch of the hand of Jesus would heal the sick, free the possessed, and raise the dead. How about you? Do you still or can you today trust that Jesus can do the same in your life? If you believe on Him and trust Him, He can do amazing things in your life. He wants you to come to Him so He can heal your hurt and free you from the frustrations of this life. Trust Him today and see for yourself how the things you lost hope on fixing are correcting themselves, and how life will start to have meaning. | | |
