I owe you a pickle...

Crazy past few weeks. Just trying to keep my head over water with all these personal projects. My food blog is launching soon which I'm soooo stoked about. Hopefully that'll get some major attention. Among other things, my new portfolio site & some other projects in the works. Stay tuned.

Broke out of my recent recluse behavior this weekend. Did some beer pounding with JHDC, met a buddy of his he went to school with who is currently an art director at Razorfish. This guy is ridic, his shit is totally legit. So that was definitely a good contact. Heard back from Copo and she's getting my referral in for the big fruit as Rob would say. This evening after finally hitting up Jay's Beef which was alright, met with sis and her NY friends at Danny's for some ass-shaking. I needed that.

I'm kinda ready to get a vaca at home. Thanksgiving? Anyone?

My response: I love a rational woman.

Weezerish

Lacy came into town on Wednesday, and we've been sorta hanging out. It's just frustrating to entertain someone while you're working freelance. Yesterday morning started with a rude 4:45 AM alarm to get me ready for a photoshoot at the Bean in Millenium Park. Cold cold cold. Train-ride half asleep and stumbling around downtown to the park. Got there and awkwardly met some of the photo crew. 10 minutes later I turn around to Lauren setting up some tables. Greeted that bitch with a big smile and hello then thought, "today's gonna be a good day." It was an easy 4-hour shoot with a late Damien showing up just in time for our delish catered breakfast. Umm... not sure exactly what it was for, but the company had a lot of French employees. 15 bus loads.

Lacy and I had lunch and hung out at Jesse's. Crashed back at my place for a bit in preparation for the Allstate Arena in Rosemont to see the one and only Weezer. But first, a rant.

I hate people that assume and passionately believe something without knowing the facts or it being their business for that matter. SO, with that said, these high school kids who kept chanting Weezer thru the other bands' sets (Tokyo Police Club & Angels and Airwaves) should show some respect. And if that weren't enough, they were flipping off Tom DeLonge. So disrespectful. Don't assume that he is responsible for the break-up of Blink or that you know what happened. Sure, he's not the greatest singer, but I mean, it's like your mother used to say, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all... you fuck."

Besides, Weezer started making music before you were born, so eat a dick. Shit, they had formed when I was in second grade? Earlier? The Red Album? Are you kidding me? I don't even know what that is. I felt that a point was proved when they played Oasis's What's the Story Morning Glory? in tribute to them and none of those youngsters sang along. Gallagher brothers? Who are those guys?

All-in-all, I had a grand time and the show was amazing. Tokyo Polic Club didn't seem like they attracted the crowd much, but I would definitely listen to it given the right mood. Angels and Airwaves has a huge sound, very epic. I enjoyed it. The band has lots of talent.

No words need be had about Weezer. Tom DeLonge came out and did some vocals on Undone. They played the classics, the ones you appreciate but don't get the mainstream exposure, and the new ones that I didn't really care to investigate before the concert (The Red Album). During the encore, fans of Weezer that had participated in a local radio talent search joined the band on-stage to perform Island in the Sun and Beverly Hills as a sort of orchestral ensemble. It was great. This little redhead had a rad solo for the end of Beverly Hills and I think Rivers was super-impressed by her. Buddy Holly was the only way to end an incredible two-hour Weezer set.

Saddening to see your music icons aging among other things that age. Rivers was straight creepin' with his molestache. Hate to say he's seen better days. What happened to the clean, horn-rimmed sporting fella we all grew so fond of? Ah well. The way of the world.

I called the cab service immediately after we left the concert and she said the wait would be an hour. To our surprise, we snagged a cab within ten minutes of leaving. What luck.

Jesse and I put up some vinyl graphics in the Onion HQ in River North. Done in an untimely manner and came out with a few hiccups. Could've gone worse, but it sucks to not get something done to the quality you expect. Did come out with some goodies though.

Who Needs Chili's When You Got It @ Home?

Yesterday started off slow, but ended being a great afternoon followed by a lame ending of a day. I found some solid copy cat recipes for Chili's chicken crispers and of course the honey mustard sauce. About the same time I came across the recipes, Jesse messaged me for drinks on the roof since it was a gorgeous day. So I figured, why not go all out. Made a stop at Cermak Produce to pick up some missing ingredients then headed over to Jesse and Abby's. 30 minutes later...

Just as good as Chili's. Dare I say.. better? Needless to say, they were a big hit.

After lunch. Drinks on the roof.

Got too fun, too early. Went back to my place to change and freshen up for the big birthday celebration at Ohm, but after passing out at Danan's for an hour things just went downhill from there.

Is anyone else excited about Thanksgiving?

Exciting weekend, Marie came into town so I got to show her some places, including a few of my faves- Kuma's of course was the first. Some church action on Sunday followed by Chinatown escapades and Marie agreeing that Tony's chicken is easily the best chicken ever. Didn't get to see her in between then and Tuesday, but Tuesday night was a great way to see her off. Joe's $2 pitcher night and some pizza. Celebratory jager bombs, and then I called it a night. But not before running into a wall on my bike ride home.

I've been busy this week with some freelance among other things. Chicago mag held an event for Audi's unveiling of their new A4 sedan. Open bar + free food makes for a good time. Denise, JP, Brendan, a new graphic design acquaintance, Alisha, and of course, Pauline coming thru, repping ChiMag well. After we closed the place, we headed to Affinia's rooftop bar for the nightcap over on Superior which was awesome. Picture Bacardi commercial sans the Bacardi. Then post-nightcap? at Alisha's raddddd studio in the middle of downtown. Pauline and I got to talk some over the ride home. All-in-all, a fantastic night.

After what seems like months of trudging through the build of my website, I've decided to build in 2.0. What a great move that was. Knocked a good portion of it out after completing my freelance for the day. Tonight I caught Beautfiul Losers with Travis and Josh at the Gene Siskel theater. What an inspiring movie. I definitely feel a bit of a connection to a few of the artists in the sense that I just wanna work on cool shit. Fuck the bureacracies of 'fine art' and the 'institution.' It is what it is. I think Mike Mills said it best when he spoke of being trained in art school to say shit sucks, but what a difference it makes to think something is rad and say it. As an artist trying to find himself, it gave me hope that we can be just as successful as anyone else. But then again, success is relative.

EDITS: Monday night was Heroes premiere madness with Denise. I got us some pizza hut since we were both dying of hunger. Half Greatness (meat lovers), half Loserville (veggie lovers).   To our dismay, the pizza was sub-par, so like my mother, I called up there, bitched em out and got another pizza free.

Been a crazy last two weeks? I honestly can't even remember. They're starting to blur together. I know for a fact last week was spent hard at work helping out J.Hora and Abby for Renegade. I was printing goccos like a madman only to be rained out like a huge failure should by the weather this weekend.

This week is hopeful with a project at the beginning of the week, a design contest that is looking hopeful, and my new website that I hope to launch soon.

I've been considering the military a lot lately. Mostly because I really wanna see the world and hate that I'm bound by financial limitations. And, I feel like it's one of those things that I'll regret never doing in my life. My parents support me, and it just makes me break down that they are so supportive and unconditional. I am spoiled.

CREATIVE MIND, WELCOME BACK YOU FUCK! WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN?!
