Criminal Minds - Again, Let Reid Be A Man

I'm managing not to post in the thread I said I would take a break from.  But, if I did, I would really ask the queen of Reid woobiness to tell me where she got the idea that Gideon would turn into a lion if anyone dared to look at Reid cross-eyed.  And, others are picking up on this.  The militia guy in identity threatened Reid one time when he said he could snap him like a twig, and Rossi let him know that Reid had back up (and thanks again for making me defend that guy - ugh).  After that, he simply criticized how Reid wore his gun.  I really don't see Gideon jumping in and getting him, or Reid melting into a pool of tears because he can't handle someone saying something less than positive.  Come on!  If anyone should have built a good coping mechanism for being bullied (if you can even call it that) it's Reid.  And, Gideon, surrogate dad or no surrogate dad, would respect Reid enough to treat him as a man.  You don't send someone into an unnecessarily dangerous situation if it can be avoided, and you take the right safety precautions, but you don't go around wiping the nose of grown FBI agents and giving them hugs every time someone is a little bit mean on the job.  (No one said those exact things.  I'm saying, for example)  And, Reid is not weak!  He's not a poor widdle boy in a man's body (um) looking for a daddy.  He'd hate it if he felt people felt they had to go out of their way to protect him, like he was a lesser agent.

Funny, the only character who has shown a tendency to be hyper vigilante against anyone saying the wrong thing to another team member is Hotch.  Mainly with Gideon (and Gideon would indicate that he could handle reminders of his failure in Boston better than Hotch could) but also with Rossi's "oops, didn't mean to sound sexist" comments.

And, fanfic writer, if Reid slept with a night light at every motel room, then Morgan would not have been learning anything new when Reid said he was afraid of the dark in The Boogeyman, and it clearly was new information to him.  And, lets not forget in the same episode, Reid sat in the dark waiting for a suspect (which is one of the most confusing things the show has done), and although he jumped when Morgan startled him, he wasn't hiding under the table before that.  Reid is still functional.  Although credit for showing Reid still able to profile and think while being in the dark and having a knife to his throat.  At least you didn't turn him into a baby there.
