First, why is it whenever someone says they like the conflict that Rossi brings (brought, actually) they have to add something insulting to how the team was before. It's always something that implies that because the team generally got along before he came they weren't professional adults, but children. Besides the team didn't exist in an eternal element of good will and understanding. Reid had conflict with Morgan about his nightmares. Gideon and Garcia clashed over her hooking up her wireless to the FBI computers and also when Gideon took over her office and was a slob there. There was conflict between Hotch and Elle over Elle shooting a suspect in cold blood and her blaming Hotch for her getting shot. Hotch and Prentiss had conflict. In Revelations, there was some friction between JJ and Garcia when Garcia didn't want JJ to see the video of the latest murder. Sure, these conflicts were resolved by the end of the episode mostly, but they were still conflicts. Because liking each other doesn't mean that you never clash.
And, then, even though nothing on screen supports it, people imply that any issues the other team members have with Rossi are connected to them not being able to let go of Gideon. Everyone was eager to welcome him when he first came. It was like he was a celebrity. I think people just want to lump everyone who has a problem with Rossi as not being able to let go of Gideon - characters on the show included.
And, now there's supposed to be conflict with command issues! Here's the thing. Rossi shouldn't have any command and it's a mistake for the writers to put him in that position. There was a very specific reason why Gideon was considered a co-boss (unofficially). Because it was his team and he had only been on leave for 6 months. It makes sense that Hotch would still consider it at least partially his team and that he still had some authority. It also fits into Hotch's protectiveness of Gideon. But, when a guy is gone ten years, he's lost the right to jump back into a leadership capacity, especially when it would also only be in an unoffical manner. With no other reason, making Rossi "one of their bosses" says that Hotch can't do the job on his own. Most jobs don't have two bosses, and with Gideon, there was a carefully constructed story line for why that unusual relationship existed. Without that story line (because Rossi is a different person with a different history) it makes no sense.
And, now, Rossi is supposed to have taught Reid how to stand up for himself. That plays into the image of Reid as this scared little baby. Reid has never been that. Okay, he's been scared (and bravery doesn't mean feeling no fear - it means digging in despite the fear) but he's spoken up for himself before Rossi came. He convinced the team to let him voluntarily get on a train where a mentally ill man was holding hostages (including Elle) with a gun and try to trick the man with a magic trick. He called Gideon on his attitude towards the father of the unsub in Charm and Harm. He told Morgan and Hotch to give him time to think and remember where the victim was being held in The Fisher King II, even as the house was on fire and they were saying they had to get out. And, even if those things hadn't happened, the only thing I've ever seen Rossi instruct Reid on was being specific in case he has to testify in court.
