Resisting Pornographic Rap Music in My Neighborhood

Growing up trained to resist evil people with force and learning to be nonresistant living in the ghetto has its personal challenges for me.  I was put to the test just the other day.  My neighbor was playing pornographic music.  There were several songs but the main one I remember repeated "dirty whores" several times and described graphically what the rapper wanted all women (who he called "dirty whores") to do to him.  My short term missionary friend staying with us confirmed that it was a very destructive song.
In frustration while I was deciding what to do, I caught my neighbor out of the corner of my eye and yelled his name.  He turned, looked, and then went in his house.  When he came out again, I determined to be self-controlled and to avoid sin.  So I walked over and asked him if he knew why I was there.  He said it wasn't 10pm and he could play the music loud if he wanted to.  I told him it wasn't the volume, but the content. I said the music was pornographic and was molesting the minds of the children in the neighborhood.  He told me I should just call the police.  I told him that is not the way I operate.  My goal is to keep peace in the neighborhood.  He told me to leave him alone and then stormed in the house.
I went back to assembling the signs for our campus outreach exhibit.  Then I heard someone yelling, "Hey... Hey... Who you calling a child molester?"  It was my neighbors dad.  He wanted a fight.  I explained to him the situation.  He said that they sold the music in the stores.  I told him it was the same thing as putting a big screen on the front of his house and projecting porno movies.  He said that the neighborhood was filled with drug dealers so I didn't have any right to bother him about the music.  I told him I was at peace with the drug dealers and they were not going after children.  He said that me having my children in the neighborhood of drug dealers was worse than his pornographic music.  Then after he made a few racial attacks, he walked off yelling about pornographic music and drug dealers.  Then they turned the music off. The trashy music hasn't been played since.  But, I have a new enemy and he taunts me periodically. I found a porno magazine in the street in front of his house the other day.  I don't know if that was part of the taunting or not.
I have yet to walk into a church with a whip and turn over tables like our Lord Jesus Christ, so it seems I'm still safely in the camp of physical nonresistance. Praying for my enemies seems rather easy these days, since I have more enemies than friends.

Matt 5
38"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' 39But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

43"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Days 1,2, and 3 of UT Evangelism Exhibit

We just finished day 3 of the UT Evangelism Exhibit.  Tomorrow will be our last day.  Our helpers from Virginia will be heading back tomorrow, and they will be missed.  Monday was great because several non-Christian students I had spoken with in prior semesters welcomed me in the first few hours.  Tuesday was not so great because a false teacher named Kevin spent 45 minutes trashing me.  He taught a cheap grace Gospel that additional claimed that all of Jesus's teaching were a a part of the Old Covenant.  I'm limited in my ability to respond on the campus becuase the authorities do not like disruptions.  So, I told him he was false and didn't seem to exhibit the fruits of the spirit.  He walked away after me refusing to respond to several minutes of attacks.  Today was excellent because of the huge number of conversations we had in the afternoon.  I love to see Christians who are new to this type of evangelism share the Gospel.

Beating People to a Pulp for Jesus

Have you heard about the now popular televised sport of combat fighting.  It is designed for those who don't get their violent carnal desires fulfilled from other televised sports like football, boxing, and hockey.
What is amazing is the number of fighters who claim to be Christians.  After they beat some other guy to a pulp, they thank Jesus for giving them the ability to cause physical damage to the other guy.  And since it is televised church mens groups watch it as a part of their fellowship meeting.
Have these folks not heard Jesus opinion on the matter? Pray for your enemies, love your enemies, turn the other cheek, give to him who steals from you, give to him who asks, and lend to him who wishes to borrow.
