Kyle and I were driving back from Topeka tonigtht, and we hit some sort of animal.  It was dark, about 9:00, and we saw it about two seconds before we hit it.  Kyle braked, I screamed, and it just stood there.  Kyle thinks it was a coyote.  It was really traumatizing.  Poor thing.

We had a fun time in Topeka, though.  I got to look at what mom's got done of my wedding scrapbook.  It's just beautiful!  Actually, it's going to end up being two scrapbooks, thanks to all the pictures that everyone took!  (Stephanie!)  We also got to swim and have dinner and cake and ice cream for Matt's birthday, and then we went up and looked at my grandma's house.  She's currently living in Holton, about 30 miles north of Topeka, but they're building her a house in my parent's neighborhood so she can be closer to the family.  I'm really excited, because I'll get to see her so much more often.  Anyway, the house looks really good.  They think it'll be done by October, which is cool.

I'm gearing up for a full week.  Homework wasn't as bad as I though it would be this weekend, and I feel like I got a lot done, so that's good.  But I've only been to half of my classes, so we'll see how it goes after the other three.  I just keep thinking about how wonderful it will be when this semester is over.

Wow, that was a heck of a thunderstorm that rolled through last night!  Anybody else hear it?  It seemed to last a long time, and it was almost constant lightning.  Glad I got to sleep in.  Poor Kyle's probably tired today.

A while ago we decided that we should take a vacation after I graduate, cuz after I start working, it'll probably be a while before I can take time off, and then we'll be saving every penny for a long time.  The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to go to Washington DC.  I've never been, and I think I'd totally get in to the history.  The only problem is, it's pretty dang expensive to stay in DC.  You can either stay in a really nice hotel for $250 a night, or you can stay in the ghetto for $80, or you can stay way outside of town for somewhere in the middle.  The good news is that their public transportation system is awesome, so we won't have to rent a car (which, since we're under 25, saves us SO much money).  So I've been scouring the internet trying to find a hotel that was somewhere in the middle, and I think I finally did.  It's right in the middle of the Central Business District withing walking distance of the White House and surrounding monuments, and I'm hoping I can get it for about $100 a night.  The other good news about DC is that it seems like most of the places you'll want to go are free.  The National Zoo, the White House, the Smithsonian, Arlington, the list goes on!  So besides meals and Metro fare, it should be pretty reasonable.  I have a tendency to start on a project and get totally obsessed with it, and that is definitely happening right now.  I'd book the thing through Travelocity right now if Kyle would let me.  :)

If you even need to know something about filing a car insurance claim, just call me up.  I'm gonna be an expert.

Sooooo....  I'm at an intersection in the left turn lane behind two vehicles.  The arrow turns green, and the big Ford truck in front doesn't move.  I'm like, what the heck?  Is he broken down or what?  So I pull around into the middle lane of three and wait my turn to go straight.  Another car pulls into the right lane beside me.  So there's three of us waiting at this intersection for the light to turn green.  It turns green, and the car in the right lane goes straight (legally), and I go straight (legally), and the big truck beside me goes straight (illegally).  There are only two lanes on the other side of the intersection.  Three cars, two lanes.  Two cars driving legally, one driving illegally.  I was slightly ahead of the truck, and I'm going into the left lane of the two lanes on the other side of the intersection (since the other car driving legally was going into the right lane), and next thing I know, this truck has rammed its big old tire into the back of the left side of my beautiful white car!  I immediately got out and start freaking out at this guy who had already annoyed me by making me wait through another light by not going left when the arrow turned green and who had now rammed into my car.  But we pulled over into a parking lot and I calmed down.  I filed a police report and if anything is fair in the world, his insurance should pay for the repairs.  I already filed a claim.  It's not even super major damage, but it's like, this is my new pretty car, 26,000 miles on it, I'm going to run it till it dies... I want it to stay pretty for more than 6 months!

So, that is my life.  People are idiots.

What a busy summer it has been.  3 weeks from tomorrow and I'll be back in class.  Lord help me.  The good news is that I got a little more of my school paid for!  When I was in Houston, I got a call from the CLS director telling me they were nominating me for the School of Allied Health Dean's Scholarship.  So that was pretty exciting in itself, even though I had no idea how much of a chance I had of getting it.  Well, I got a letter on Monday saying that I got it!  So Kyle and I figured up that all of my tuition from the past two years has been paid for with scholarships.  I've still got health insurance, books, parking pass, and misc. stuff on the loans, but still, what a blessing!

Last week was quite a blessing, too.  Julie's wedding and all the preparations leading up to it were so much fun!  I think it was definitely the best trip I've had in Ness City.  I got to meet a lot of people and there was lots to do.  Also, I did my Rural Enrichment Experience (working for no pay in the Ness County Hospital's lab) while I was there.  That was definitely an experience.  The people were super-duper nice and I had a lot of fun hanging out with them, which is good, because the workload was insanely slow.  And apparently, it was busier than usual!  Wow.  I liked working in a small lab in that you aren't really rushed to get anything done and you get to do quite a lot of different things, but the afternoons when you're lucky to get in two tests an hour...it get's pretty brutally boring.  If you didn't like who you were working with, it would be torture.  I grew to appreciate small towns a little more during this trip, but I don't think quite enough to move out there.  :)

Julie's wedding, as far as I could tell, went off without a hitch.  She had it very planned out an organized, which made it more fun for everyone.  We estimated about 275 people came, which was fine since we prepared for almost 300.  The ceremony was very nice, with some humerous moments of course.  Wayne's "I do" turned into "You know I do" ala Napolean Dynamite, and Russell made a couple tasteful cracks at the beginning of his message.  Everyone looked beautiful, as did the reception hall.  That place was absolutely transformed!  I couldn't believe it.  Good food, good dancing, good friends.  It was definitely a success all around.  However, I think the best part was that the Keetons volunteered to clean up the place since we did the set up.  I was definitely relieved to be able to go home afterwards!

So now those crazy kids are off in Cozumel getting tan and having a good ol' time.  Their families are driving a big trailer up on Friday with all of their stuff and we're all going to move it into their apartment, even though they don't get back until Monday.  Definitely spoiled.  ;)  They're good kids, though.  They deserve it.

Okay, for those of you without Facebook (KYLEE), you can go here to see some pictures from the wedding.

I'm gearing up for my big adventure to Houston!  I'm sick of "getting ready", and I'm just ready to leave.  I'm a little nervous, partly because it's the most I've ever driven in one day (unless you count our band trip to Florida - straight through on the charter bus), and partly because I don't know what it'll be like to be away from Kyle.  I'd like the think we're not one of those couples that's totally dependent on each other and that we can function just fine without each other for 7 days.  But it'll just be odd.  I definitely feel guilty about leaving him behind to work while I'm off having fun, but he's of course totally supportive and encouraging.  He's so nice it almost makes me feel worse, especially since I can't imagine I'd be nearly as supportive if the situation were reversed.

But mostly I'm dang excited.  I've never been on a trip quite like this.  Just me and the girls (and Ben, occasionally) doing whatever we want.  Sometimes I still don't quite feel like an adult, so the fact that I don't have to ask for "permission" anymore for a trip of this magnitude is pretty cool.  I just said, hey mom, I'm going to Houston!  A couple years ago, she would have promptly replied, no you're not!  But now I'm all grown up so she can't say boo.  I almost feel like a rebellious teenager.

Plus, I got a new camera for my birthday.  My "old" (it was only 3.5 years old) camera wasn't quite working anymore, so I pooled all of my birthday money and asked Kyle to fill in the rest for his present and treated myself to a new Olympus.  It's less than half the size of my old clunker, and it has all these cool preset setting for taking pictures of different things in different environments.  I'm so excited to have an occasion to break it in!

Okay, that's all I know.  All you KS people take care of my Kyle while I'm gone.
