Read the Book!

Bible reading2 As believers, one of our life’s greatest quests should be to know our God. How do we do this? One way is to study the Bible and to learn about Jesus, because Jesus told us that He is one with Father God. He is God in fleshly form sent to us so we could reconnect with our Creator. So, through the life of Jesus, we can learn about God.

As we study scripture, we see that God is compassionate. Jesus had compassion on many and healed all who were brought to Him. He wept over the sinful condition of Jerusalem. He raised Jairus’s daughter from the dead. He was not afraid to touch the highly contagious lepers and restore them to health. He loved the little children and wanted to take them on His lap and bless them. Will He not have compassion on us?

We read of how Jesus cleansed the temple and threw out the moneychangers and all who were dishonoring the temple. This teaches us that God wants us to have respect for His house. Do we treat our church with respect? Yes. It is just a building, but it is the place we come to for worshiping God together.

When we read the story of how Jesus turned water into wine, we read that this wine was the best those at the wedding feast had ever tasted. We learn that when God does anything, He does it with excellence. He gives His best. Should we not give our best to Him?

After the resurrection, we read that even though Peter had cursed and betrayed Jesus, he was accepted and forgiven. Jesus makes a special point of asking for him and restoring him. He patiently understood Peter’s faults, and saw the good in him. Shouldn’t we rejoice and be glad that our God forgives and restores us, too?

"Don't you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you aren't mere words. I don't just make them up on my own. The Father who resides in me crafts each word into a divine act. "Believe me: I am in my Father and my Father is in me. If you can't believe that, believe what you see--these works. The person who trusts me will not only do what I'm doing but even greater things, because I, on my way to the Father, am giving you the same work to do that I've been doing. You can count on it. From now on, whatever you request along the lines of who I am and what I am doing, I'll do it. That's how the Father will be seen for who he is in the Son. I mean it." (John 14:10-13 MSG)

Now it's your turn! What else does the life of Jesus tell us about who God is?

buildings are fine, but we are the body, the temple of God, do we respect each other, or do we betray and berate? i could open up a cutlery store with the knives i've had to remove from my back, and i've seen it done to other people as well. it's well and good to say we must forgive,(i've had this demanded of me many times as well), and true we should, but should we also not rebuke those who do evil? should we not be taught to stay our hands(voices) from violence against one another(i speak specificly of verbal, emotional, spiritual violence.)? why is the answer i always get no? why do people condemn me as a violent man, when all i do is stand up for those who are being attacked?

*hugs*

Love is the key. Eternal love that is given freely and faithfully. I praise the beauty and embrace the life He gives me . Life is much easier knowing I have a saviour and comforter..

Knowing He is there is enough. He is my strength and shield..

Thankyou Abba..

May God bless your day..

I'm afraid we often give God the left-overs... left-over time, left-over energy, left-over money... whatever's left, well, here you go, God... but He deserves our very BEST. Thanks for inspiring us... yet again.

The beauty and mystery of God in Christ is so profound. God, whom the Bible says is a Spirit, with no flesh and bones, needed a way to come and redeem fallen humanity... and so, His Holy Spirit overshadowed Mary and she miraculously conceived and the angel told her, that which is in you shall "be called the son of God," or as one version says, "the flesh of God." That gives me goose-bumps just thinking about it. God in flesh. God with us. God in Christ. Wow!

Yes, read the book!

@ionekoa -

If those who mistreated you were students of the book, they would know how wrong it is ti treatment people that way.

The book also makes it clear there is no way forward without forgiveness.

Forgiveness doesn't mean you can't speak out against evil. Yet the book also makes it clear that speaking out can be done in love, without violence or hatred.

The book is rather full featured.

@EyeHatePeas - i understand what you are saying. and i have a problem with it. not in the sense that i think you shouldnt say it, or that i wholeheartedly dissagree, but in the sense that i struggle with hatred and violence. pre-Christ, they were my most valuable tools in keeping safe.

physically, i have not acted violently in years, verbally, i can not say the same. as for hatred, well, thats a deep root, isnt it?

and it is fed when i see "christians" who profess to love, God, profess to love and value people, being the aggressors. ironicly at times mocking peoples convictions(how can a christian mock a christian for being a christian?).

and i will admit, regarding the violence, there are times i believe it is warranted(the Bible says there is a time for everything, including killing) such a time in my view is the instance of the trafficking of people for the purposes of sexual slavery. i am doubly frustrated that there are Christians out there who would show more grace to an unrepentant murdering rapist who mocks God, than to one who seeks to protect the victims and potential victims of such a person. though i shouldnt think about it at this time, it only serves to frustrate and anger me more.

Jesus prayed for believers.I love Jesus prayer in John chpt 17. He prayed for himself, was concerned for the disciples, and yet prayed for all believers. He prayed for unity among believers,so that we all would show the world who God is,that that would be our desire. I'm not sure we've done such a good job, because many believers look like the "world". We look that way by our clothing choices, our greed, our gossiping, our words, our choices in tv viewing and movie choices, our priorities.
20"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: 23I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
I agree with your assesment,to know God,be in His Word! Pointing fingers toward myself, I too, need to give the Lord more of my time.
Jesus is patient, kind, full of grace, mercy, love, teacher, guide, friend.
I love how Peter changed-full of the Holy Spirit, nothing stopped him from preaching the word-he was given grace abundantly from Jesus.

The Bible teaches so many wonderful things, I really can't pick just one without really getting into it. But, thanks so much for the wonderful insite you shared! And. ...Hey friend...that is one of my favorite water colors, I own an ink print...as if you don't know, but it's by Jean-Honoré Fragonard it's called (very imaginatively) "Young Girl Reading".

The life of Jesus tells me that God is willing to come to the place I am to bring me out of the mess in my life. He is a patient God and he does see the heart and its need.

I know this because of how Jesus related to people, just look at the many kind of disciples he chose, everything from a physician to a fisherman. He loved to go to people and places that others have given up on, I know this because I see him going to the woman at the well, and the woman who was taken in the throws of adultery, he ate with tax collectors. All these he restored.

I also know that God sees the physical needs in our lives, Jesus went to those hurting in spirit as well as body. He knew he could reach them best after he met their physical need. Be that food, or healing for blind eyes, crippled legs or diseased skin, he always met every need.

My list could go on, if we read about who Jesus was and the way he did things, then we also know the Father.

BTW: that print you put up is one that my Grandmother gave me. She kept it for many years next to her bed and now its by mine!

Please, what is the MSG version? We live in such a jaded world where everyone knows what a Christian is supposed to believe and how a Christian is supposed to behave. It seems to make no difference that most Christians will cringe at those descriptions. We've been taggaed and labled and that is how it is going to stay. I no longer call myself a Christian in most coversations in order to avoid the automatic prejudice that crops up. I tell people that I am a believer and follower of Jesus. I may belong to a Church, but I do not follow the church or any other man made institution. My focus is on following Jesus, trying my best to be more like him everyday. I find that is difficult enough without taking on the Holy Spirits job too. Let the Spirit call, convict and convert. I am intent on following Jesus putting flesh on His love, fighting the good fight of faith everyday. Thanks for your insight everyday. God bless you and your work.

@tkperito - I like your comments! MSG stands for The Message. It is a modern paraphrase version. Although it isn't really a good study Bible, every now and then I like it's fresh approach to a scripture I have heard many times. Blessings!

Total change of discussion here from your other messages from fellow bloggers:

Your quote above jumped out at me because many of the churches we've visited in recent years have left my mouth gaping wide open. I've seen cups of coffee, many water bottles or bottles of soda pop, snacks, and even an "Egg McMuffin" brought into the sanctuary. These people eat and drink while the preacher gives his sermon!!!!!! How did people 25 years ago make it through a sermon without eating a snack or keeping a drink under their seat during a church service? And the Teddy Grahams and candy left behind on the floors or dirty tissues left on the pews these days . . . ????

What's up with people?

sanctuary = a sacred place

I just can't fathom meeting God in heaven one day and standing before his throne sipping on a bottle of Ozarka water and munching on a hand full of M & M's.

@jillcarmel - I know what you mean! I heard a story about a little boy who was scared of a bad thunder storm and wanted his mommy to sleep with him. She told him Jesus was with him, and he said, "But I want somebody with skin on 'em!"   That is why we have such a responsibility to love with the love of the Lord. We are sometimes all the Jesus people will ever meet. He can't hug us right now, but He can send one of His own to give us a hug. I pray you get a hug today, friend!
