It's a beautiful chilly fall morning. I had my favorite cold weather breakfast...Cream of Wheat with raisins in it. That goes way back to my childhood when my mother made smiley faces in raisins on top of our Cream of Wheat. My brother still has to have raisins in it, too. I decided to take my coffee and sit out back. Yeah, it's kind of cold, but it's an invigorating cold, not a run for any source of warmth cold. I almost felt like I was on some coffee commercial, my coffee was steaming so. I sat out there for about 15 minutes enjoying my coffee and watching and listening to the squirrels and watching the leaves finally falling off the oak trees. I even had to deflect a leaf so it wouldn't fall into my coffee. The squirrels are very entertaining. We have a huge population of them in our backyard. When you walk out the back door, you can see about a dozen scramble for the trees. The squirrels are very chatty this morning. I heard far more squirrels than I did birds. And watching the squirrels chasing one another around and around the big oaks was mesmerizing. My little morning outing ended when the next door neighbor's cat walked into the yard and sent the squirrels way up into the trees. But by then, my coffee was starting to get cold. I have to do this more often. It's a great way to start the day. |
