The air conditioner in our apartment is broken so we have all been miserable. The heat and humidity have been ridiculous and all we could do is lie around and not move. Surprisingly enough that went for the kitty to. It was like she suddenly had no personality. Well, after the cold front came through yesterday afternoon she was back -- 10 fold! For literally hours last night she was running around bouncing off the walls! How can something so little reek so much havoc? It's a wonder really. Nonetheless, she is awesome and we love having her. I think she is more like a dog than a cat in a lot of ways. She greats us at the door when we come home, she always wants to be in the middle of everything and know what is going on, she loves being loved on. Fun times. Thanks Sommer.

Saturday, October 15, 2005

I have a new car! Well, new to me. My grandpa decided he was ready for a new California car (they split their time between TX & CA) and he offered the old one to me. It's not my dream car, but it was free so you won't hear me complaining. It's a '99 Chevy Lumina, 4door, light tan color, power everything and . . . for the first time ever in a car for me . . . cup holders and a CD player! And the best part of all 13,500 miles. It's six years old and practically just been driven off the lot. Perfect timing too, my old car wasn't doing so well.

Good Bye Ruby Buick, Hello Goldie Loom!

Sunday, September 25, 2005

Hurricane Rita brought me a "new" bike which I have in turn named Rita. Friday morning Jon and I were riding bikes around the neighborhood and someone was throwing away this super cute old Murry bike so we went home, got my parents truck and picked it up. Good thing too, cleaning it up gave Jon something to do while we waited for not-so-ferocious Rita to arrive.

The other fun thing that came out of bike riding was finding the only open business around -- the liquor store! They were pretty picked over, but we managed to grab a 6er of Blue Moon. (BTW, thanks to whoever brought that to the Xanga party, cause that is a tasty brew and I never would have known.) Jon and I were all proud of ourselves when we got back to the house and announced to Mom and Dad and Amy and Shaun that we had secured more beer! Alcohol is very important in times like these.

Now it's all over and we don't even have a limb in our yard to show for it. (Our neighbor did though.) The other good thing is my apartment-of-questionable-construction didn't fall down. Yippee, I still have a place to live!

I hope the next time a big hurricane takes aim at us, people still take it seriously. Houston got lucky this time.

Sunday, September 11, 2005

We've been kayaking a bit lately. We went to Huntsville State Park the other day with alligators all around. It was great fun. I've come to the conclusion that kayaking is something I really like to do. Also, Colorado was amazing. We rented a car and put 3,029 miles on it. Mountains are simply spectacular, it was tough to come home.

I finally saw Adaptation. What a fantastic movie!

Sunday, August 14, 2005

Jon and I are heading off to Colorado for a week in the morning. (He was a tid bit envious of my camping trip with Cara.) I'm using vacation hours for the first time ever! I'm pretty excited to play and get paid at the same time.

Saturday, August 06, 2005

Highlights of Birthday Number Twenty-Nine:

Wore a sparkly "Birthday Girl" headband to work and got birthday wishes from probably 90% of the customers I helped.

Had yummy seafood lunch/dinner with the family at Babins.

A neat-o five piece Sake Set compliments of Jonny Boy, drinky-drink anyone?

Jack Johnson for free in Houston (and a very enthusiastic one-armed dancing girl.)

Jack Johnson for not free in wonderful Austin.

A great camp site (except for the bushes that hummed with bees) on Davis Cove at Pace Bend Park.

Kayaking from Barton Springs out to Town Lake.

Swimming at Barton Springs just long enough to be satisfied, then get kicked out when they unexpectedly close the pool, but get a rain check so we can go for free next time.

Hiked a couple of miles on the Greenbelt

Enjoyed some delicious Kerbey Queso and Live Oak Beer at Kerbey Lane Cafe (our little when-in-Austin tradition).

T'was a good birthday.

* I witnessed my sister's cat pee in the toilet as if it was the most normal and natural thing a cat could ever do. Thanks to the wonder of camera phones I have a picture to prove it.

* I had a tire blowout on the the freeway. We barely had time to get out of the car before a SafeClear tow truck pulled up to remove us from the shoulder. It all worked out all right and thanks to Discount Tire a replacement only cost me $13.50!

* I moved into an apartment of my very own for the first time since I returned from Massachusetts. It's so cute, I love it. For probably the last month I've been slowing sifting through and disposing of all kinds of stuff I really don't need and I must say that it is VERY liberating. Less is absolutely more!

Enough for now.

Sunday, June 19, 2005

It's 3:17 in the morning and I am twiddling my thumbs waiting around for 4:30 to make it's appearance. Opening the store is not my favorite thing to do. No one should be up at these hours unless they were up having fun the night before and have not gone to bed yet. I haven't actually been to bed yet, but it's not cause I was up having fun. Jon called me just as he was about to get off work at about 9:55pm cause he had just learned of a Father's Day gathering for his dad happening just then and we had to get there ASAP. I'm thinking "so much for a good night's sleep" but it's for a good reason so I go, no complaints. We drive the half hour out to where his parents live, hang out for about an hour and then it is time to go home cause I am tired and have to get up dark and early. We get back in the car and - uh oh - it doesn't start. Erin not happy. We get the jumper cables out and it takes a while and a bit of coaxing, but finally ol' Ruby Buick turns over. Now the question is will she start in the morning when I need to go to work. (A side note about work: On Sundays in addition to all the regular stuff we have to do we also have to brew about 25 gallons of coffee half by 6:30 the other by 7 for two churches who need their caffeine boost before they can hear about Jesus.) So, do I dare chance it? nope. It's only me and one other person till about 6 so I have to be there. We drive to the apartment so I can pick up clothes and drop Jon off (btw his car is broken down too, lucky for him my apt is across the street from his work) and I continue on to my parent's house, take a shower, eat some breakfast and now here I am. I'm not especially excited about being up all night and then working from 4:45am till 2pm, but I am glad I didn't wake up to a dead car and no other way to work other than a cab. I mean, this is not New York, we don't do cabs here. I suppose I'll go gather my things now, it's getting to be about that time.

One other thought first, how come bands don't like to include their lyrics in the cd jackets these days. I've just bought The Killers, Coldplay and Foo Fighters and none of them have lyrics. I like to read the lyrics. Bring back lyrics!
