| First off, CONGRATS EDWARD & LINDA!!!! It was a beautiful wedding this past weekend and the view we had of DC from the top floor of the hotel was really cool, never saw DC like that before! ____________________ So I'm UNEMPLOYED!!!!!!!!! Woohoo! When was the last time you ever heard anyone so excited for not having a job! hahaha...
So Friday night I was let go, I knew he would let me go early after I gave notice. It's all good, I now have my life back and can enjoy the simple things in life that I haven't been able to in so long. This is a great thing to happen to me folks, you just don't understand! Let's play now!
I'm done with restaurants for now! Whew, and I've worked in quite a few of them, let's see... Bertucci's (Host/Waiter/Manager) Kinkead's (Manager) Soo Won Galbi (for 2 months as a consultant) Colvin Run Tavern (Manager) Kinkead's (again) (General Manager) Hook (General Manager/DO)
Went from starting off as a host all the way to General Manager all within a 7 yr period, that's pretty darn good actually, now it's time for something new and more exciting, not to mention a lil more sane and calm for my own sake! Do any of you have any great job ideas?

| So here's my quarterly update! This was a bad, but short chapter of my life and I'm glad to get it out of the way, not it's time to write a new chapter that will hopefully be much better! I got the car back, got the new job and been working like a dog since then. Earlier this week, after 3 months on the job, I've given notice. I just can't handle it anymore. I'm working 80 hours a week and being told that's not enough. Then I'm working my job, another manager's job (cause the owner fired him my 1st week there), the accountants job (cuz the owner fired him the following week), and I'm covering up for the owners stupid mistakes and mismanagement of money. I can't work for someone who is insane like this (there are more issues, but I'll spare you from them, because they really piss me off). Someone who yells at me for there being too much dust on a fire alarm cover while I'm preventing his staff from walking out because their paycheck bounced is so not cool. I don't have another job lined up, I'm just leaving and that's it. I've never done anything like this, my life has always been planning for the next thing and making moves that makes sense. This move only makes sense for my sanity sakes and to get my life back, but career wise and financially is absolutely ludacris. I do have complete faith in Him, that He will provide and that I'll be ok, it's a way of me being able to rededicate myself back into church life and serving more like I used to. My last day is the 30th, but knowing my owner, there's a chance that I could be gone before that, so if you want to visit, make it soon!!! What else is going on....hmmm....well, besides work, not a whole lot else since that's all I've been doing. With all the free time I'm about to have, here's a list of things that I'd like to do: 1. RELAX!!!! 2. study for GMAT's 3. exercise more than I already am 4. travel a little bit, not too much 5. sleep! 6. spend time with friends!!! 7. clean my place, it's a disaster 8. look for a new job 9. reflect upon my life 10. party....a lil bit....a lot? who knows! 11. stay at home since I won't have an income anymore! So if anyone wants to help with any of these things let me know, I'll be free soon!!!!! Woohoo!!! But what's most important is this....what have I learned from this experience? A lot, that it's not about the money, that there always is something better out there, have to be patient, I'm older now and it's not like it used to be. That friends are so much more important than a career and that there isn't enough time in this lifetime to be stuck at work ALL DAY LONG! I've called this the "Dennis wants his life back mission" and it will all begin soon. I may be bored out of my mind, but at least I'll have my sanity back and will be able to do things that I've been wanting to do for so long! I'll see you guys soon! | | |
| I know I said I'd update more, but having had the worst week in quite a long time, that didn't happen. So, after my whirwind tour of the country, being in LA, then back in DC and then in NY in a 12 hour period, I came back to DC and went to work. Sunday night went home and got into a car accident on the way home, so that really stunk. My left side met a guard rail pretty hard since I was avoiding an accident. Car next to me was swerving a lil and then came into my lane and I veered left to avoid him hitting me and thinking there was a shoulder, but not really, there was a nice metal guard rail! Oh well, $4500 in damages!!! I saw my car stripped on Tuesday and it was pretty sad, they had taken off the front and rear bumpers, front grill, the front quarter panel next to hood, front headlight taken off, rear taillight taken off, it looked so naked! Also, both rims and tires are being replaced and they need to pop out the dents over the rear wheel. That's nothing, there is a 2006 Acura MDX there at the body shop and all 4 sides were messed up because the husband and wife got into a fight and the wife was so mad that she took their cargo van and rammed it into her husbands car on all 4 sides to take out her anger, just shows that you have to be careful of who you meet. I think it was estimated at $13,500 in damages. OUCH! Then on Monday went to dinner with some friends and had some bad clams and worshipped the porcelain gods (toilet) for the next 3 days. Just finally getting better. I can honestly say though that I'm really different, since if this was 4 years ago and all this happened, I'd be sour and pissed off and really moody, but I've been my normal self except for being tired and weak and still laughing and goofing off. I think God has really taught me patience and controlling my temper...amen! Hopefully things will get better today as I begin the new chapter of my life....again! So I'm being optimistic Restaurant Week is coming soon people, August 6-12. I'm booked up, but if you want a resi, call me and I should be able to squeeze you in, we're only doing lunch and brunch Tues-Sun (7-12). | | |
| Holy smokes! It's been 8 months since I updated. Man, a lot has happened in those 8 months. Well, I'm on vacation in LA right now, so it's been nice to get away, I haven't taken any pictures yet because all I've been doing is eating and meeting up with old friends, hearing lots of great news of friends getting engaged and people getting pregnant. Seems like all those are dying down in VA and picking up steam here in LA. Eating TONS of good food, and pimpin around LA. I'll try and update more later, gotta run, but does anyone do Xanga anymore? | | |
| Tonight was a good night at work, because of the... The Secret Handshake: This is a handshake that only people who get a little something extra for their services get. Tonight at work was a very good night for the handshake. It all starts by someone who wants something from you approaches you, as they approach, they have this huge smile on their face and look at you like you are their best friend. They put out their hand, only right before it can get into your hand. The hands meet and there's something there that is more than just the flesh of the other persons hand. As you release from the shake, whatever it was transfers to your hand and you immediately put that hand in your pocket and release whatever it is. Then the person whispers something into your ear, usually a favor to do something or a thanks for having done something. You smile and make conversation. Once you've made correspondence and walk away from the individual, you inspect what is in the pocket, usually it's money, but I've been told there have been times it's been a phone #, but that hasn't happened yet since a woman has yet to the secret handshake with me. Usually for me, it's been like $5, $20, or $50. Tonight was different, it was $100!!! By far the most I've made off the secret handshake, from a regular customer of mine who comes in all the time and takes care of me because I always end up doing something for him, like he sees a friend and wants to pay for their check nonchalantly, so I do everything for him. Then it happened an hour later with another regular and there was $50. Now this has been the most ever made off the secret handshake. It was a good night . The secret handshake is the best!!! | | |
