The Big Tourist Weekend

It's  been such an eventful few days I can't help but document it! I had a friend come visit from DC and we did it up right with a big tourist weekend.

She got in Thursday evening and I took her home long enough to change and then we headed out to 80's night. It was a great mix of people, some work and non-work friends were there to make the night oh so fun. After walking the 2 miles home (half the way barefoot) we crashed hard.

We had a pretty mellow morning, the next day. I had to wake up early to drop Dupree off at the car spa. (Which really just don't get me started on that!) And we lazed around and made yummy pepper and goat cheese omelettes. We finally got motivated early afternoon to head out to the Freedom Trail. We did the WHOLE Freedom Trail in one day! The only sight we didn't stop to look at was the USS Constitution. We walked by it on our way to Bunker Hill but by then it was getting close to 7 and we were pretty ready to be done.

It was fun to do something so Boston with someone who had never been to Boston. Growing up in New England Boston was our "city," I grew up with the history, seeing the sights, and generally really enjoying getting to play around the historic places. It was fun to show Chaz things and tell her about throwing tea over board for my 7th birthday, reenacting the Boston Massacre out with our playmobile, and trying to learn how to duplicate John Hancock's unique signature. And I realized that perhaps my interest in political science had begun way back then with my Johnny Termain tape and the Son's of Liberty song:) (And yes I know I'm a dork that's okay I've come to terms with it!) We stopped and took pictures, bought souvenirs, wine (and attended a wine tasting), went to Mike's Pastry. We really did the Freedom Trail in STYLE:) So then Friday evening when we finally made it home, we took it easy...made dinner watched a move and still didn't go to bed at a decent time:)

Saturday morning we once again had a lazy start and I took Chaz to Zaftig's my favorite breakfast place. Where we join the hordes of brunches. After fighting off some pushy tourist for our counter seats we had a delicious breakfast, well worth the wait. We meet up with Jerome and head off for a day at the beach. We had a lovely day of sun, and conversation. Including a fantastic discovery of Jerome's excellent read-a-loud ablilities. After dragging our sun exhausted bodies home for showers we headed to the Publick House for dinner. Which honestly was maybe a tiny little mistake:) It was hot Hot HOT! No AC, and a packed pub does not spell a respite from the heat of the day. And to make it worse the signature dish (so required ordering for that evening) is mac & cheese...not exactally the coolest of foods. So after a delicous and steamy meal we meandered home in the balmy weather marveling that at 11pm we were STILL sweating! At some point between Saturday night and Sunday morning we watched There Will Be Blood...really really well done.

Sunday was the BIG GAME day! Chaz's coworker had tickets to the Red Sox that we bought and they were GREAT seats! Right behind home plate in the first section under the roof. Which with the weather yesterday was nice because hot as it was at least we were out of the sun. Greg came and meet us at my apt and we headed off to the game. Good seats, good friends, good beer, good hotdogs, good game...really good times:)  It was great to get to spend time with Greg and it was fun to be back at a ball game with Chaz. Add on to that the fun of Fenway and really could we even of had a bad time?

We came home and crashed for a while, watched Across the Universe (love that movie!) and debated for a while what we felt like doing. We finally decided that hanging out on Jerome's roof sounded like the best plan so after getting wicked sweating walking around returning movies and finding dessert we headed up the roof. There we found a party of newly arrived students from Dublin. They were in Boston for the summer and apparently they also enjoyed the roof top. So we made some new friends and some amusing conversations. On the way home though I managed to fall down Jerome's stairs and scrap up my hand and bruise my foot (apparently I'm finding out today pretty badly!). But besides that we made it home safely and after a story from our favorite bedtime storyteller we had a lovely night sleep in my nice AC cooled bedroom.

So this morning Chaz is on her way back to DC and I have my foot propped up on box under my desk with a bad of ice. It's got a nice shade of blue and is a bit swollen but that will teach me to wear flip flops around all the time...actually who am I kidding that's totally NOT going to teach me I'll still wear them all the time! But over all it was a great weekend filled with friends, fun, and good times:)

Ugh to moving

You know moving is pretty stressful. There is the whole picking up of your life, leaving people and places behind and knowing the adjustment you are going to have to make on the other side. Finding new friends, new homes, new hang outs...but even if you took away all the emotional and mental stresses packing in and of itself is FREAKING STRESSFUL! The going through everything, the categorizing, the wishing you weren't so sentimental or practical so you could just throw it all way and start fresh, and once again knowing that you are just going to have to unpack it on the other end. Blah!

And then let's not even mention the whole finding a place to live...okay actually let's mention it. It's hard!!! And it's even harder if the place you are moving is approxometly a million miles away. (Yes okay I hear the irrationality in my arguments...and no this would not be the time for all you analytical people to nicely point out my incorrect statements...and miss spellings!)  It's hard enough to find affordable housing in the area that I want to live...but then to attempt to figure out if I want to live with the people mentioned in the ad (not to mentioned how do I  convince them by e-mail that I'm just SO fabulous they want to live with me) and all the while trying to figure out when I will have time to find these apts and meet these people in my first week of work!

Okay well enough with the woe is me angle...there are many good things. Lucky for me among all of these mentioned stresses I am NOT trying to find a job to! Because that would be the breaker! And thank God for Lindsay who is SO nice to let me live with her temporarily so that I am not homeless in the cold New England winter. And actually while I am thanking people thanks to Lindsay's roommates too who are so nice as to let me crowd up their apt! I should think of something nice and "DC" to bring them...what's a "DC" present? A stuffy politician? Traffic? Humidity? Hmm as noted by all my positive ideas once again stress or not I'm reminded that this move is a good thing. Actually cherry blossoms are lovely and a nice "DC" thing...but not very transportable...and definitely not in season! Can anyone else think of a uniquely "DC" gift?

Quick Update

Okay so just in case there is anyone left who doesn't know I am going to be returning to New England! I have recently gotten a job with a college in Boston and I will be moving up in the beginning of December. I'm still frantically trying to pack up my DC apt, say goodbye to everyone, and try not to stress about not yet having housing in Boston. However lucky for me I have a friend who is willing to take me in for a few weeks and I'm sure it will all end up working itself out.

So for you New Englanders I'm excited to rejoin you...if not a bit hesitant about the upcoming winter:( And for others that I'm moving farther away from I will miss you but I'm sure we will remain in touch! And remember all visitors welcome:) (Well at least after I find my new place!)

2 years

Well I've been in DC for two years tomorrow...weird! Two years...this last year was full of far less transitions and uprooting then last year.

The biggest news is that I've finally had my official directorial debut...as most of you know. My show, Agnes of God, is currently up and running and has gotten some decent reviews. So that's good. Here's the website if you want to check it out or just look at my pretty poster!  http://ssstage.org/Shows/2007-2008/Agnes/index.php It was a fantastic experience to get to direct Agnes. I read it as a freshman and thought it would be a great show to do, and perfect for my first show but I guess I never thought it would actually pan out to be my first show. But there it is!

Still at the same job, in the same apt. I have a new roommate...well actually maybe not new from the last entry as she moved in in April. I never see her...no really NEVER! She basically lives with her boy friend two blocks down.

I feel like I should have lots to say after 6 months of not updating but how do you put 6 months into something interesting that people want to read?

Anyways I'm planning on being at Messiah's homecoming anyone else gonna be around?

So apparently even though I have Xanga (and internet at home) and I read everyone else's Xanga I've completely forgotten about mine. Around my birthday I had grand plans for a re-cap of all the crazy birthday shinanagins (sp?) that accompanied the celebration of my Quarter of a Century on this earth, complete with pictures and such...however as I've noticed it's now APRIL and apparently that's not happening.

So instead of writing anything about my life I'm just going to comment that I LOVE Sandra Oh!!! Princess Diaries is on and she makes such a great Vice Principal:) I first fell for her in Under the Tuscan Sun as Kate Walsh's girlfriend...and of course need we all know how I feel about Gray's Anatomy :)

That's my five seconds of completely unnecessary update. I just got back from a retreat with my small group...it brought back such memories of camp and youth group. I also only got 3.5 hours of sleep so I'm in physical PAIN!!! Off to bed with me:)
