back at home

Happy July!

Back from an amazing amazing week at Catalina Island.  Can't quite put into words the experience.  Here are some pictures from the week!

But yay for it finally being summer!  Haven't done much besides visiting people on campus a couple times, then scrapbooking all day (while watching Dawson's Creek, of course)!  Deborah and I made it through seaons two, three, and four already, and are having a Lord of the Rings marathon now.  I don't have any plans for the next two weeks, so I will be doing lots of relaxing, visiting people on campus, and getting excited for Greece/Sicily/Atlanta in 11 days!

Anyway, here's the stuff from my last entry...  sorry it took so long!

Tiffany:
1. You always looked so pensive, and I would want to know what you were thinking.
2. Come visit California sometime soon!  And if not, send me a letter
3. Red
4. Your sincere thoughts and expressions.
5. Hmm...I really can't say.  Sometime in ASYO, obviously, but no distinct memory sticks out, probably because you always sat behind me.
6. a seal
7. Favorite (specific) memory from ASYO?

Christine:
1. You will forever be to me the eighth-grader I met in ASYO.
2. Apply to Stanford!  and then come visit me :)
3. Yellow
4. your cheeriness
5. I think I knew you before the ASYO ball, but that's probably the first time I remember talking to you.
6. a penguin
7. Favorite memory from Walton so far?

Nick:
1.You are ridiculously talented, and I'm excited to see where life will take you.
2. Keep me more updated on your life!
3. Orange
4. Your endless determination.
5. District band in 7th grade...I remember you sat next to Robyn and had the cast on your arm.  I don't think I actually talked to you that year, but I remember seeing you then.
6. a beaver
7. Favorite all-state/district band/ASYO memory?

Claire:
1. I love how you describe things- whether it's movies you've seen, how your day went, or people you met, you have a way with words =)
2. Update your xanga more often- I always love hearing about what you are up to.
3. fuschia, of course
4. Hearing you talk about all the things you love.
5. Same as yours- bio freshman year with Ms. Whitlock.  I think we had met a little earlier through Vicki, but that's when I first really remember knowing you too.
6. a manatee
7. What's it like being back in Marietta after a year of college?

Ana:
1. Whenever I picture you in my mind, you are always wearing those awesome comfy flip flops.  =)
2. Record yourself playing guitar and then send it to me!  I would love to hear you play
3. Red
4. Your laugh!  Always made me smile.
5. Hmm...the first night of JSA I guess.  I don't really remember introducing myself to you, but I do remember that you came in late that day.  First clear memory is probably when we called in to get our AP scores.  SO many other fun memories from those 4 weeks though =)
6. a succulent horse, of course
7. What exactly is a succulent horse, anyway?  And how did you come up with that?  =)

The colors/animals were very random.  I didn't really think too carefully about my answers, so don't read into those at all.

Anyway, hope everyone's summers are going well!

Last night...

...in my room!

I still can't believe it. People have been slowly going all day, leaving behind empty rooms full of memories. I'm so relieved I can enjoy my summer and a break from school, but I'm still sort of wishing the year weren't quite over yet. I had dinner with my SPOT leaders tonight, and it was so much fun to talk to and celebrate with the people I started off the year with backpacking in the Sierra Nevadas! Saying bye to them was hard, even though I didn't even know them very well. I guess I've realized that people come in and out of lives so quickly, and you just have to appreciate the times you are able to spend together.

Anyway...
Respond with your name and...

1. I'll respond with something random about you.
2. I'll challenge you to try something.
3. I'll pick a color that I associate with you.
4. I'll tell you something I like about you.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something I've always wanted to ask you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on yours.

What Claire said about me...
1. I award you a thousand bonus points for never letting your actual GPA or SAT score out to the public. Bravo.
2. I challenge you to sky dive! I don't know where that came from, but it seems like a dare you'd be willing to try.
3. Pink. It's such a fantastic color.
4. You have alwyas been one of the most genuine people that I have ever met.
5. I wish I could remember what party or dinner it was that was the first, but for now I'll say second semester bio with Whitlock. That's the earliest I can remember right now. But I know it was earlier, because I remember waving to you across the room, so it definitely was earlier.
6. You remind me of a koala bear.
7. What was your favorite moment at Walton?

My favorite moment? Every moment spent with you, obviously! =) hehe. Probably playing Text Twist all day long after AP's were over junior year.

Well, finals are over, papers are written, and most of my stuff is now packed. Still worried about how all my stuff and Deborah's will fit into our car, but I will figure that out tomorrow!

don't panic

If there's any song that makes me think of Marietta, it's that song by Coldplay.  Deborah and I got the soundtrack sometime last summer, and we'd listen to it all the time in the car while driving around- going to meet friends, the Avenue, Starbuck's, on Roswell Rd, Johnson's Ferry, and all the rest.  Every time, without failure, that I listen to that song, I picture myself immediately in my old car exploring good old Georgia...

Speaking of which, if you could pick one song that represents something about you or means something important to you, what would it be?

good grief is it really June already?

Passing the candle was tonight.  It was such a good hall meeting.  And it was so great to reflect back on the year and how our hall has changed, grown closer, and learned so much.  I was definitely lucky to live here this year.  Such a good way to experience freshman year.

Anyway, in-house draw was tonight, and I'm really really excited about my room for next year!  My new hall looks like it will be really fun--so many awesome people.

So, the year is ending.  I just have to finish  my French research paper and some final Latin lines, and study for finals.  No more IHUM readings ever!  Yay

Today in Latin we went to the rare books collection and saw early editions of the Aeneid.  It was so cool!  I definitely need to go and look at some more Vergil stuff they have some time in the future.  I felt like such a scholar turning the old and crinkly handmade pages.

Anyway, back to work now.  Happy June!

oh the drama of the in-house draw...I have not managed to get any work done for the last 2 1/2 hours.  I just hope my roommate's situation turns out okay- she is possibly the sweetest person ever and deserves it.

Besides that my weekend was wonderful.  Saturday I went to the beach (!!) and then to my dorm's end of year banquet which was full of nostalgia but also tons of fun.  Monday we had classes off which was a nice break.  Now it's starting to hit me that I have a research paper to write by Friday!  My topic isn't all that interesting, which makes it harder to write.

Only 1 1/2 weeks of classes left!  Then finals...then summer... =)
