Spring Break!!!

Hey guys!  UTD's spring break has officially begun!  I know...we're the weird school who has their spring break the first week of March.  I'm going to be winging my way to Boston tomorrow for a whole week!  I'm super excited.  However, I'm going to have to find my own way around Boston because Brandan has a job interview in NYC pretty much at the same time as when I land!  Needless to say, I'm a little nervous about having to find my way around there WITH all my luggage.  Definately motivation to pack light!  :)

On Monday and Tuesday of this week I'm going to be taking the train up to Maine to see my dad's side of the family.  I'm pretty excited about this too because I haven't seen any of them since I was 12 or 13.

Hopefully I will come home with lots of pictures and stories...stories are more likely than pictures, however, because both Brandan and I hate bringing the camera and taking pictures.  He has a new camera, though, and I'm hoping to use that as excuse to make him take his!

I'm also going to be coming home on the weekend of the 17th.  We're going to be at the beach though so I still will not be able to assuage my intense cravings for Rio Rita's!!!  Hopefully once this semester is over I'll get a chance to go home and see some of the Buna/Bmt people.

Anyways, I need to go finish packing.  Leave me a message and give me something to look at while I'm waiting on Brandan to get back from his interview!!!  :)

Welcome to Buna

Made a quick trip to Buna...so quick that, other than my family I only saw 1 other person I recognized.  I was pumpin gas, looked across the street, and there's Goose Creek.  No Buna trip is complete without a G.C. sighting.

Cell phones, car trips, and funny movies

My cell phone is officially gone.  I have a different number now, so if you have the 673 number, it's wrong.  I actually don't have a new cell yet.  I have my new number though, I think.  The new phone should be coming in the next few days.  Until then, I'm using skype, which is a phone service through your internet.  The sound quality isn't perfect when talking to a cell phone, but its not terrible either.  You can also talk to other people who have skype for free!  If you want to be able to call landlines and cell phones its like 30$ for the year.  Definately the cheapest thing I've found.  And all you have to do is download the program and plug in a microphone.  Well, that's my little spiel for skype.

I'm planning a quick trip home this weekend.  I was going to just relax and come down on Friday morning, but the head of a youth stuttering program that I'm trying to work with emailed me and asked about a meeting at 2 p.m. on Friday...so needless to say, I'll be getting into town late in the evening on Friday.  Then I'm gonna turn around and leave again on Sunday morning so that I can have some time to prepare before Tuesday clinic.

I thought only having class 3 days a week was going to be awesome...in a way it is, but I might as well go to class for 5 days because I have to spend at LEAST the other 2 days catching up on paperwork and homework!

Anyway, on a random note, if you're really into morbid black comedy, rent Little Miss Sunshine.  Its extremely odd at times and not all funny, but the second to last 5 minutes of the movie made me laugh harder than any movie I've EVER seen.  And the little girl who plays Olive (Abigail Breslin) received a best supporting actress oscar nomination and she's 10-YEARS-OLD!

Anyways, enough rambling...I need to go to work.

The obligatory rant

O.K.  Now people, its been a long, LONG time since you've had to put up with one of my rants...  Well hold on because here we go!  There are some things that have been annoying the mess out of me lately and, if you're inclined to keep reading, you get to be privy to them.

#1 - Overly sensitive people:  Here ya go.  This one's for you.  If you get all bent out of shape because your best friend from 5th grade forgot to send you a Christmas card you need to GET OVER IT!  If I haven't talked to you since high school, then you're probably not gonna be invited to my 4th child's Bar Mitzfah.  Who cares?!  Nobody is trying to intentionally snub you.  Please have the class to understand that there are actually people out there who do NOT have you on the brain 24/7.  And if you insist on being so darn sensitive, keep it to your self, because whining about something that's already happened isn't going to change anything.  The only thing its going to do is further alienate you from the person who incidentally didn't invite you to the slumber party.

#2 - Nosey negative people:  MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!  That's it.  Just pay attention to yourself and make sure that you know what's going on with you before you start criticising others.

#3 - The uber-religious instigators:  Let me preface this section with the fact that I love Jesus.  Now that that's out of the way, some people need to just back off!  "I heard that Jena sacrificed a goat to Satan on her patio!" " Lets all drive to Dallas and have a prayer vigil on her doorstep until she renounces her evil ways!"  If a rumor gets started about somebody (i.e. me sacrificing animals to anything) you need to think about where you heard the rumor from.  Then you need to see if the rumor makes any sense.  Hm... Jena sacrificing a goat...she's kinda afraid of farm animals...and I don't know where she'd get a goat in Dallas...and that must be breaking some kind of zoning laws to sacrifice an animal on her balcony...  Does the rumor make any sense?  NO.  But will it get spread around?  YES.  And if you decide after careful thought that your rumor is indeed true, please, please, PLEASE check the Bible when deciding how to deal with it!  And even if you don't want to do that, think of a solution that actually makes sense.  Because if a bunch of people started having a vigil on my doorstep, insisting that I stop my ritualistic sacrifices, not only will I be annoyed that such a stupid rumor was believed, but it will probably simply lead me to opening up a can of spaghetti sauce all over my patio just to stoke the fires of ignorance.

So there ya go.  Agree with me or not, I don't care.  But if reading this makes you feel a little guilty about something you've said or done lately, just think before you start spreading crap next time.

I survived Christmas!

Well, it's over, and I'm headed home today.  I just wanted to say it was great to see everybody that I saw and I'm sorry for everybody that I missed.  I must admit that I am ready to get back up to Dallas, b/c I miss my apartment and the solitude.  The holiday was tons of fun and as soon as I can get some time, I should have some new pics up on facebook.  My new years resolution is to take more pictures!  I forgot to take my camera out on 3 different occasions.  Anyways, I'm excited b/c I get to go to the Cowboys Game on Sunday!!!  Maybe I'll remember to bring a camera to that...but I'll take it easy on myself if I forget b/c it will not be the new year yet, and therefore not subject to the resolution.

Alan Frakesh: What would you say if man walked in here with no shirt, and I gave him a job?
Christopher Gardner: He must have had on some really nice pants.
