Another School Year

Haha so much for updating this thing regularly. As usual so much has happened since my last entry that I'm just going to do a list of things that have happened/I've accomplished in the last few months. That and because I love lists. It makes me happy.

FIRST IN MATH: My Bilingual 5th Grade class last year place 2ND IN THE NATION in First in Math Online. GO EMBER31NJ!! I was (and still am) way too proud of them. This year we're going for the gold...

TRENTON YOUTH ORCHESTRA: This summer I created my first Non-Profit Educational Organization... the Trenton Youth Orchestra! I've spent the last year collecting instruments from different elementary and middle schools in Trenton that had been sitting in storage for the 10+ years and I am determined to revive the music program in the Elementary and Middle Schools no matter what it takes. I have a meeting with the Trenton High Music Dept. and the Superintendent in the next 2 weeks to see what we can do...There is still alot of work to be done (and a lot more proposals to write) but in the end it is going to be worth it...

VIDEO GAME DESIGN INSTITUTE:  Shortly after creating the Trenton Youth Orchestra I figured why not take a chance and start up another program? The result was the Video Game Design Insitute (VGDI). I absolutely love video games and have always had a passion for creating games. Kids love video games. Since 2003 I have been teaching kids how to create video games in the various after school programs that I have worked in. This summer I decided to turn it into a legitimate Educational Non-Profit organization. Shortly after forming the organization I created a short 1-month Pilot Program at the Lawrence Neighborhood Service Center (LNSC) in Lawrence, NJ (where I was a camp teacher the last 2 years). The response was overwhelming. I am now contracted with LNSC to run VGDI throughout the school year. Even crazier is that I am also running VGDI with the Boys and Girls Club and now the YMCA AND some schools in Trenton want a piece of the action. This program is going to be huge....

OTHER FUN STUFF:

- Went to Puerto Rico for a week and had an amazing time. I want to go back...

- My cousin Orlando and his wife (now also a cousin of mine lol) had their first baby together...Santiago Colon. And I was just named Godfather so I'm extremely excited about that. Orlando also left for Iraq yesterday for the first time so we're all going to be praying and hoping for the best...

- Oh yeah I also started Grad School at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). I was so busy I missed the first day of class (plus my adviser gave me the wrong class date and I was so busy I didn't double check...oops!). I've already done my first assignment and the class seems pretty easy. Let's hope it stays that way...

So there you have it...that's been my life in the past year. No I don't have any time for myself anymore lol. When I'm not working 12-14 hour days, I'm usually in NYC with my girlfriend recovering from my hectic work week. It's all worth it though...it's all for the kids!

New Era

Dear Xanga,

It's been far too long. The last time I had written anything on here, I was still a Senior at Rutgers trying to finish up my last semester while trying to avoid the "RU Screw" (almost got me too). But I prevailed and alot has happened since then. I simply could not ask for a better life. I moved out of my parents house back in November and since then I have been on an absolute tear. I have an amazing career (Bilingual 5th Grade Teacher), three amazing part time jobs (Computer Teacher for Boys and Girls Club, Math Coach and Director for the Trenton Youth Orchestra...more on that last one later), two hot cars, a very sweet apartment, I'm taking night classes at TCNJ and last but not least I have an absolutely amazing girlfriend that I simply cannot get enough of.
I absolutely hate to brag. I really do. But I've worked my ass off in the last year and it feels great that I have something to show for it. I could not ask for a better life. But I'm not done. For example I have to go back to school to finish my masters (and then doctorates). That'll take a while. But before that I've got a "First in Math" competition to win (my students are #9 in the COUNTRY!), an orchestra to launch (I'm starting a youth orchestra in Trenton...) and of course theres Emerald Dreamers...
Ok that's enough for now. More to come later. Promise it won't be a year from now lol.

"Yes Padme this movie made us lose our will to live too"

Fortunately the above statement does not reflect my opinion of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, I just thought it was a hilarious quote lol. In short I thought the movie was the best film in the entire Star Wars saga. There were simply so many iconic moments...and of course the beginning of the film had some of the funniest moments in Artoo history. He really is the main character of these films!

Other then Revenge of the Sith, life has been mostly uneventful until tomorrow when I move back up to Rutgers for the summer. I'm going to be on College Ave (finally!!!) so it oughta be fun...but since school ended I've done nothing but play old Sega Saturn games, eat and sleep. Yesterday I went to Atlantic City with Nadia and won like $200 but thats all gone now, and today I went to 2 different barbecues and visited my grandparents. Like I said pretty noneventful two weeks...

Well finals are over and I have to move out of my dorm by 10am tomorrow. I really love this room and I'm definitely very sad to be leaving behind the whole living on campus lifestyle because it's definitely been very good to me. I've met some pretty interesting people while staying here and it's definitely been alot of fun. But now it's time to go back to the old routine of working at Pace and commuting everyday to New Brunswick. Yes I'll be working at Pace again starting from Friday until the end of the school year. I need cash, I'm doing absolutely nothing until June anyways (when I start summer school) so why not? I'm like a celebrity in that school anyway lol.

Mac OS X Tiger is fantastic. Everyone should just stop using Windows and switch to a Mac, there simply so much better then Windows (cheaper software, THEY DO NOT CRASH, compatible with just about every device you could possibly imagine, etc.). I'll admit PC's are better for games (with the exception of Blizzard and Sims games which rock on any platform), but who the hell plays computer games these days anyway...with the exception of the aforementioned games of course....

Oh yeah a special thanks to my brother for snaggin up Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith midnight showing tickets for next wednesday. My mom, brother and I are going to be among the no doubt hundreds of other geekoids waiting in line to see the greatest Star Wars movie since The Empire Strikes Back. It's going to be a blast!

Oh and special congratulations to my brother for making it in to NJIT and Drexel but not Rutgers. How the hell does that happen???

- Battle of the Heroes - -

I've got massive chills running through my body right now as I listen to this score.
I just downloaded the soundtrack to Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith using a "special" program. Anyways the soundtrack is not supposed to come out until May 2nd (i think) but I simply cannot wait that long. Hell I've already read the movie novelization and the excellent graphic novel so I already know just about everything that is going to happen. Yet for me personally the most important part of any Star Wars film is the music...and my god this soundtrack does not dissapoint in fact it is the best Star Wars soundtrack out there. Ok so that may be a bit premature seeing as how I've only been listening to it for about an hour but still...it is a very dark, fast paced and more importantly EPIC score. Just listen to "Battle of the Heroes", "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan", "Anakin's Dark Deeds", "General Grievous" or "Birth of the Twins and Padme's Destiny" and you'll know what I mean. Hell the whole thing is very dark. "Duel of the Fates" (from Episode 1) has nothing on "Battle of the Heroes"...

In other non Star Wars related news
1. I went to the beach today and got a pretty good tan...
2. I took the Praxis II exam on saturday and seemed to have done pretty well on it but unfortunately...
3. ...I found out I'm not graduating until January of 2006 but thats ok I kind of saw it coming anyway.

And thats about it for now. It's been a crazy month, school work wise but I'm only 1/2 way through April...till next time....
